👇Welcome
but so late in the day:

Sadly our support from D1 has been defined by a pattern of:

👉 protracted debate
👉 delay
👉 delivery with caveats

NLAWs, HIMARS, Howitzers, tanks, F16's & missiles.

Let's rekindle our Cold War statecraft to look Putin in the eye & not blink

If TRUMP were serious about standing up to PUTIN…

He’d call for a no-fly zone over Ukraine - backed by a Coalition of the Willing - ready to take down Russian drones and missiles in Ukrainian airspace.

This would change the trajectory of the war.

👇Trump is finally realising the folly of his strategy in treating the aggressor 🇷🇺 and the victim 🇺🇦 equally.

RUSSIA must be challenged. Not appeased.

UKRAINE must be supported. Not abandoned.

Confused about Diego Garcia?

👇Here's a more strategic picture of what's at stake.

There's a growing populist segment of Britain - increasingly ambivalent towards int'l law- some actively encouraging we should ignore it.

Is this really where Britain should be going?

We were…

UK/ EU:

I'm going to have the courage to say this BREXIT upgrade is good for Britain:

👉 A new security deal
👉 Access to EU arms plan
👉 Youth study exchange
👉 UK to access e-gates
👉 Food/agri /fish border delays removed
👉 Utility co's can sell energy to continent

Yes -…

UK/ EU SUMMIT

👉 Not surprised to so see some of the dated slogans on Brexit wheeled out again. 🙄

👉BREXIT was a 5 yr contract. However you voted - can't think anyone would NOT want to upgrade it.

👉In 2020 security co-op was deliberately excluded. TODAY 🇷🇺 makes it a must.

Honored to speak at the WORLD PROCUREMENT CONGRESS this week.

Though surprised by how little awareness there is among multinationals about supply chains beyond Tier 1.

Disrupting SMEs is now a key tactic our adversaries use — this is grey zone warfare.

👇My thoughts.

ISREAL'S 10 week blockade:

If Netanyahu refuses to open the Gaza border - the RAF should lead efforts to airdrop food and medical supplies immediately.

We cannot watch this catastrophe unfold and do nothing.

UK SECURITY:

Global events are moving fast and in the wrong direction.

My call for an ALL OF SOCIETY approach to prepare Britain for what's coming over the hill.

@GBNEWS

As Defence Chair I long called for greater oversight of our SF.

Only after much push back was the Committee eventually allowed to visit Hereford (as per the US system).

We were very much welcomed - allowing critical issues to be raised confidently a fed back into the MOD.

INDIA / PAKISTAN:

Here's a simple summary:

👉Why this ceasefire is so fragile.

👉And the potential for serious escalation is very real.

Xi and Putin:

No one should dismiss the symbolism of this meeting.

👉 🇷🇺 and 🇨🇳 are increasingly dependent on each other.

👉 Together they are actively pursuing a rival global order.

Marking VE Day in Bournemouth:

Honoured to join Dorset’s Lord Lieutenant and fellow dignitaries as Bournemouth joined communities across Britain in lighting beacons- paying tribute to the war generation whose sacrifices secured those freedoms we continue to enjoy today.

👇Why REFORM should think again about banning 🇺🇦 flags from flying over town halls.

My article in the @Independent

https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/ukraine-flag-ban-reform-uk-nigel-farage-b2745815.html

👇As today's parallels with 1937 continue- this decision exposes:

👉 a poor appreciation of the war

👉 the scale of threat posed to all of Europe by Russia

👉 And the depth of UK support for 🇺🇦

Putin will be DELIGHTED to see a UK party promoting the withdrawal of 🇺🇦 flags.

Delighted to be back in Washington - speaking at the @AtlanticCouncil on the forgotten art of SOFT POWER.

A very different atmosphere in DC compared to my last visit 100 days ago!

👇Please read my argument for UK electoral reform.

POWER CUTS 🇪🇸 🇵🇹

As we await to understand the cause -
last week I published this article asking how prepared is the UK for 72hrs without power?

https://www.politicshome.com/opinion/article/7-items-need-disaster-stockpile

My article in @politicshome

Yet another devastating 🇷🇺 missile attack, killing over 50.

I pose the question:

If the West can mobilise jets to strike down Iranian missiles / drones heading for Israel- why can’t a similar coalition protect Ukraine’s cities and infrastructure in the same way?

Let’s rekindle…

Delighted to address the Georgia International Security Conference in Tbilisi.

The closer you move across Europe to Russia - the greater the awareness of Putin’s imperial intentions to Russify E Europe.
@EPRC_Georgia

Let’s keep Bournemouth’s Air Festival!

This amazing flagship family event (that’s taken years to establish) not only boosts our local economy (£40m) but it now helps define our town!

Let’s make sure it’s back next year! @BmthAirFest

As our world slides towards greater instability - with increased multiple conflicts,
it’s baffling to read our defence posture may be reduced.

Our adversaries will continue to take full advantage of our inability to defend UK’s interests and that will impact on our economy.

Agree👇

In conflict the utility of superior military might must always be wisely deployed under int’l law:
👉without stooping to the extremes your enemy may pursue.
👉 with careful calculation of the consequential collateral damage.
👉 And with tactics that pursue a wider…

Always mesmerising to see the @RoyalMarines Corps of Drums perform their signature piece at the wonderful @BmthAirFest !

Yes - let’s rebuild trust in politics:

Whoever won in July was going to face tough decisions as wider conflict impacts on our economy and way of life.

And yes - mistakes were made and resulted in us losing the election.

But seismic events in Ukraine, COVID and Brexit caused…

Cutting our F35 fleet would put the UK in danger👇

Increased global threats are already placing challenging demands on UK defence.

Let’s remain committed to the original programme and be better prepared for testing times ahead.

Gathering storm clouds means we must come to…

To mark Ukrainian Independence Day, Chief of the Defence Staff Admiral Sir Tony Radakin explains how the Armed Forces of Ukraine are an inspiration to people around the world.

Ukraine’s incursion into Russia could have huge repercussions in Moscow and be a game-changer in Ukraine.

The enormity of this opportunity to repair European security should not be missed.

My article👇

This mix by @Morning_Joe (former Republican Congressman) underlines key differences in style, tone and energy that’s now defining the US campaign:

Putting the nation’s interests above the Party’s.
Seeking to unify - not divide.
Choosing pragmatism and engagement over populism…

The war in Ukraine is at a tuning point.

Let’s give Zelensky the weapon systems (without restrictions) that he needs.

My analysis on why the West must stand up to Russia.

Let’s not blink👇

Our perpetual celestial companion never fails to mesmerise when its proximity to us reaches its zenith.

Our periodic and captivating reminder of the wider world we are part of. Placing our own lives in humble context.

Party politics aside -
Obama uses his Convention speech to address the recent demise in both democratic standards and conduct of politics - calling for greater aspiration to act as a global exemplar in increasingly troubled times.

Ukraine’s audacious incursion into Russia could be a game changer in this conflict - IF the West steps up its support.

My thoughts on @TalkTV 👇

Why it’s so important to return to ceasefire talks and prevent further escalation that could lead to a wider Middle East conflict.

My thoughts on @SkyNews 👇

I lost my brother to terrorism.

To ramp up hatred on line by claiming the Southport attack was terrorist related (culminating in riots, a mosque damaged and 27 police injured) is not just reprehensible but needs addressing.
Otherwise it will happen again.

Disgusted how a… https://x.com/i/web/status/1818569199091855688

Seven years ago today:
The horrific Westminster terrorist attack.

Thoughts and prayers for brave PC Keith Palmer and so many other innocent lives lost on that tragic day.

Rejoin (Thatcher’s) Single Market?

Even 2/3 of Express readers believe this is how to improve Brexit and boost our economy.

No wonder Farage, Frost and Johnson originally supported outcome!

Time for political courage.
Let’s put the nation’s interests first.

@Daily_Express

Let’s finally say it…
6 years on - no one voted for THIS Brexit.

Johnson, Frost, Hannan & Farage all argued to STAY in Thatcher’s Single Market - knowing it made economic sense.

Must we leave it to another political generation to fix Brexit?

My interview in the i👇

As Johnson has walked, some may say that today's vote no longer matters.

It does.

The nation is, itself, judging the collective conscience of Parliament.

I urge colleagues not to abstain but to vote in support of this report.

We must restore confidence & trust in democracy.

Appalling - pls delete 👇
We should be better than this.

I’ve called it out on my own side for stooping low and do so again now.

As democracy erodes globally we are still seen as a democratic exemplar.

Not if this is becomes the norm and it puts people off entering politics.

BREXIT/DOVER QUEUES:

Agreed 👇

Blatantly claiming these queues are unrelated to BREXIT means we are either:
👉 in denial
👉or situationally naive

Neither inspires national confidence.

Let’s show greater political courage and address the shortfalls in our current Brexit model.

Of course it’s connected to BREXIT👇

Our current BREXIT model resulted in an end to travel freedoms.

But as they weren’t replaced with new ones - processing takes longer - hence the delays.

To compound matters -in Nov finger print scans begin.

Hence we need a BREXIT upgrade!

My article for the Daily Telegraph on the 2022 PISA results announced this morning. England rises from 17th place to 11th place in maths, out of 81 countries.

Over the last few weeks I have been discussing taking up a diplomatic role after the general election. To enable me to do so I have asked the Prime Minister if I can step down from the government at the reshuffle and he has agreed. 1/5

In 2017 we set out to reduce the workload of Reception class teachers, freeing them to focus more of their time developing children’s communication and language. At the time, these reforms proved controversial, but the evaluation shows what a success these reforms have been.

A brilliant speech by @RishiSunak. We're delivering the long-term reforms to secure a brighter future for our children.

Thanks to the hard work of schools, colleges, councils and academy trusts, 70% of the schools impacted by RAAC have been open for face-to-face education this week.

Yesterday afternoon, I updated the House of Commons on the steps we are taking to minimise disruption to education.

In 2010, we made transformational reforms to our school system so we could raise standards

These reforms have been an overwhelming success with 88% of schools now rated good or outstanding, up from 68% in 2010

🧵A thread on school standards 👇

TODAY IS THE DAY‼️#VoteStephenMetcalfe in South Basildon and East Thurrock and I will continue to work tirelessly for you - as I have done since 2010. Vote for Reform and you will be represented by Labour in Parliament.

IMMIGRATION: Other parties may say a number of things but we will never know if it's deliverable. However, right now, Rwanda is on the table. It's the last possible deterrent we have to illegal migration. It would be kiboshed by Labour, who would be let in by splitting the vote.

Pleasure to attend #Basildon #ArmedForcesDay2024 Parade at the weekend, as I have done for many years.

This is our annual opportunity to thank our service personnel - past, present and future for all their service.

That's why I support spending 2.5% of GDP on defence✅

Out in #Basildon today delivering the message: Don't give Keir Starmer a blank cheque! We have no idea what he will do with it.

Make sure you have an MP to remind the Govt that they are spending other people's money, not their own. #VoteStephenMetcalfe #VoteConservative

Loving seeing lots of flags flying especially this Basildon Blues one!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Vote Stephen Metcalfe for a strong voice who will stand up for South Basildon & East Thurrock on Thursday 4th July! 🔵 #VoteConservative

We did get #Brexit done - despite enormous opposition.
For the constituency, perhaps the biggest benefit has been the approval of #ThamesFreeport.
So far, it has attracted a whopping £600 million private investment and created over 1,000 jobs.

Great to pop into @Leechapelsch yesterday for #FrenchDay ahead of their trip to France. A huge thank you to all the staff and volunteers who are making this happen – you are really making a difference to the lives of these children.

Great to join our Armed Forces community yesterday in #Thurrock ahead of #ArmedForcesDay. The world is increasingly dangerous and I am incredibly grateful to those serving. I will always vote to champion our Armed Forces.

🇫🇷🥖💯 The Lee Chapel French Cafe served some gormet food to our lucky children...We were even paid a visit by Mr Stephen Metcalfe who sampled the menu! @Metcalfe_SBET #weareleechapel #vivelafrance 💯🥖🇫🇷

In my time as MP for South #Basildon and East #Thurrock, I have visited every single school in the constituency, written to every headteacher, toured hundreds of pupils around the Houses of Parliament, and worked with Government to secure new investment in our schools.

NATO and EU eastward expansion did not provoke Russia to invade Ukraine, Western weakness did. My article in today’s Telegraph.

The nation doesn't really want Sir Keir or his tax-hiking, EU-loving, soft-on-illegal-migration agenda. There's still time for us to swerve from the cliff edge of Starmergeddon

The trial of Evan Gershkovich is a charade and shows everything that is wrong with Putin’s Russia. The Russian tyrant is as scared of a free press as he is of a free Ukraine. Shame on him and all who parrot his propaganda. #IStandWithEvan

Great news that @markrutte will be the next NATO Secretary General. A staunch Atlanticist, a massively experienced diplomat and a great champion of Ukraine.

This is nauseating ahistorical drivel and more Kremlin propaganda. Nobody provoked Putin. Nobody “poked the bear with a stick”. The people of Ukraine voted overwhelmingly in 1991 to be a sovereign and independent country. They were perfectly entitled to seek both NATO and EU… https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1804939339710988730

Congratulations to His Majesty King Charles III - God save the King!

If Labour wins big, the Commons will be crammed with Palestinian-flag waving Corbynistas - and it won't just be the rich getting soaked, it'll be everyone. Voting Tory is the ONLY way to stop Starmergeddon

It is hard to read the accounts of D-Day without being overwhelmed at the bravery and sacrifice of those involved in Overlord. By their heroics they gave a continent back its freedom. It is a cruel truth that today - 80 years later - there is another part of that continent that… https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1798637602385383932

This was a machine-gun mob-style hit job on Trump. It was nakedly political - and will make his victory more likely, not less.

Thank you to @BorisJohnson, @BWallaceMP, @MPIainDS and @LordAshcroft for supporting the Conservative Friends of Ukraine event last night.

Great news that we have finally passed the ban on live exports of animals for slaughter. A Brexit deliverable and manifesto commitment! Not to mention the right thing to do. UK leading in Europe.

Today at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit, @AndriyYermak and I presented a major new report on Ukraine’s Security and Euro-Atlantic Integration.

It was prepared with and endorsed by leading voices from across the democratic world.

The International Task Force on Security and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, which I am honored to co-chair with former NATO Secretary General @AndersFoghR, has released a crucial report.

Together with the Secretary General of NATO in 2009-2014 @AndersFoghR and the team held an online regular meeting of the International Working Group on security issues and Euro-Atlantic integration of 🇺🇦.

Fantastic that @BenHouchen has been convincingly and deservedly re-elected in the Tees Valley. A great mayor who will continue to drive levelling up across the region

Frank Field was one of the best and most principled people in politics. He backed Brexit from a simple belief in British democracy and he attacked welfarism out of sheer Christian compassion. His ideas remain vital today.

How Ukraine Wins | "It took far too long, but House Speaker Mike Johnson showed true leadership in bringing Ukraine aid to a vote. Now the Biden administration must ensure Ukrainian victory." @kvolker

Tonight as millions of Jews mark the beginning of Passover, we must remember the strength and comfort religion brings to so many across the UK.

The sickening rise in anti-semitism we have seen must be stopped. We must ensure tolerance prevails and the freedoms we cherish in this…

This matter should be resolved swiftly, building on the interim measures already in place. The process of delivering justice for the victims of this tragedy and their families has been too long, and justice delayed is justice denied.

Congratulations to @SpeakerJohnson and everyone involved in passing the crucial aid package for Ukraine and Israel. American leadership is needed now more than ever.

BORIS JOHNSON: Forget the scare stories about hormone treated beef: we've killed our free-trade deal with Canada out of fear of the EU. It's time the government truly championed Brexit https://trib.al/ia8gton

Great news that Speaker Mike Johnson is putting the crucial Ukraine aid package before Congress. The Ukrainians desperately need air defences now.

Urging a push to develop the technological solutions that will enable the world to tackle climate change, former #UK Prime Minister, Rt Hon. @BorisJohnson calls for increased efforts by all to accelerate the transition to a #NetZero future.

Delighted to speak at the Green Hydrogen Summit today and pay tribute to Dr Sultan’s leadership of COP28.

The innovation required to meet our targets means there is more that the UK and UAE can and should do together.

The Iranian onslaught on Israel is outrageous and must be repelled. Proud that the RAF has already been involved.

Time for all Israel’s friends and allies to rally to the defence of the only democracy in the Middle East.
