Congratulations to @nadhimzahawi who will do a superb job in building on the reforms of the last ten years. I am sad not to be continuing as Schools Minister. It has been a privilege to play a part in helping improve the life chances of the next generation.

James Kirkup really understood my speech @SMFthinktank yesterday about why a knowledge rich curriculum is inclusive. (Shame about the photo!). @jameskirkup via @spectator

Real pleasure to speak at the ⁦@SMFthinktank⁩ today about why a knowledge-rich curriculum is so important.

Supporting our teachers with the highest quality training and development is the best way we can improve pupil outcomes. As we move forward with the ITT market review, we are committed to ensuring there continues to be enough training places to meet the teacher supply need.

Ensuring children of all backgrounds develop high standards of reading is vital to helping them reach their potential. My piece in TES today sets out how our new Reading Framework shares best practice in effective ways of teaching children to read

Thoroughly enjoyed speaking with @g20org Ministers today about tackling educational poverty globally and strengthening our international partnerships #G20

It was inspiring to hear from pupils and staff at @BolnorePrimary today how the school is taking #ClimateAction, marking six months to #COP26 #TogetherForOurPlanet

Behaviour Hubs will help schools improve their approach to managing behaviour. Staff & students at @bedsfreeschool, one of the lead schools in the programme, tell us how good behaviour helps pupils to focus on learning and feel happy about being in school

A package of measures will see the DfE build back better teaching careers, writes @NickGibbUK

This is a really heartening piece by @ModernCassie, about how her "small, rural, coastal, deprived and remote" primary school provides a rich music curriculum to all pupils.

It is vital that we strengthen early education to ensure children build their vocabulary and reading skills as they move into Year 1. We have published the new statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage to be rolled out in September 2021.

Today @educationgovuk published the Model Music Curriculum - helping schools provide high quality music education for all children. Liverpool Philharmonic’s Peter Garden is a member of the Government’s Expert Panel which has overseen its development.

@ace_national @ace_thenorth

The importance of the Model Music Curriculum is its shining light on the intrinsic qualities of music as a subject in its own right. My full statement for @MusicTeachers_:

Really excited about the model music curriculum finally launching today. For anyone who's interested I'll be tweeting today about some of the music it in today starting with...

Really excellent to see new Model Music Curriculum announced by @educationgovuk today implementing recommendations from @veronicawadley and to hear @NickGibbUK reaffirm his commitment to high quality music education for all. My new @ace_national blog here:

Nick Gibb: Education. We must not let the pandemic lead us astray from our mission to raise school standards | Conservative Home

Every primary school pupil should be taught Mozart

My story in tomorrow’s @TelegraphMag : how young Conservative students - inc @NickGibbUK and @RobbieGibb - smuggled documents out of the former Soviet Union, providing a lifeline for Russian dissidents under brutal Communist rule.

It was good to see how excited the pupils at @GoldfinchPrmry were for their first day back at school today. I want to thank all the staff for their hard work supporting pupils at home and now back in the classroom.

#WorldBookDay2021 is a chance for young people to celebrate what they most enjoy about reading. We want all children to have the opportunity to read widely and have strengthened the curriculum to help them do so & get the most out of the endless opportunities books can offer.

Lights, camera, vaccine! 🎬

Thanks @eltonofficial and @themichaelcaine for encouraging people to get the #COVIDVaccine. (Sorry it didn't quite work out, Elton.) 😬

Learning about the Holocaust can help pupils understand the consequences of antisemitism and other forms of extremism. I encourage schools across the country to use @HolocaustUK and @UCL_Holocaust's online resources to support pupils’ reflections on this #HolocaustMemorialDay

Yesterday I visited the vaccination centre in Bognor Regis. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and volunteers who’ve worked to make it happen.

The last five years have flown by. We’d been together for 29 years but had no idea how much difference marriage would make to us. Thank you to everyone who made it possible. Marriage is cool.

No one should face the fear of bullying in school or elsewhere. I am supporting #antibullyingweek alongside the many charities and schools who create safe places in the classroom and online where pupils respect each other. #Oddsocksday

The Holiday Activities and Food programme is being extended to cover Easter, Summer and Christmas 2021. Children all over England will be offered healthy meals as well as enriching activities.

Here’s how the programme helped these families in London last summer 👇

Schools can and should continue offering sports clubs and activities. More detail on this is here:

It is vital that we keep our schools open to protect the education and wellbeing of this country’s children. We could not do this without the hard work and dedication of teachers & school staff, for which I want to say a huge thank you:

It is more important than ever for staff and pupils to look after their wellbeing. On this #WorldMentalHealthDay staff at West Lea School share how they are supporting each other.

A big thank you to all those working in education this #WorldTeachersDay - you’ve made a huge difference getting children back in the classroom again.

As a BBC programme editor, I was lucky enough on occasion to get an invite into the Leeds United directors’ box. I was introduced to chairman Ken Bates, he looked me up and down and barked: “You work for the BBC? You must be a communist” Yorkshire Post
