Truss is set to get things very wrong in cost of living crisis.
Tax cuts sound great, but aren't targeted at most vulnerable nor effective in this crisis.
Focus must be on maximising public spending & direct support those most impacted by energy costs.

This is a shameful press statement from DUP, who are openly using people of NI as political leverage.
DUP bear full responsibility for no Assembly, Executive, and multi-year budget that are essential to tackling waiting lists.

It is almost as if nothing was learnt from last August's crisis in Afghanistan, where key people decided to remain on holiday...
Both Boris Johnson and his chancellor Nadhim Zahawi are away on holiday as the Bank of England hiked interest rates for 27 years and warned of the longest recession since the financial crisis https://trib.al/wIX1KaA
This will produce huge anxiety for 1,000s of patients across North Down regarding future provision. Workforce changes for GPs need to accelerate. We are seeking urgent meetings with the health authorities.
A GP surgery with two bases in County Down is set to close unless new doctors can be found. https://bbc.in/3d6kyWX
Northern Ireland is watching an Assembly paralysed by the DUP, says @KateNicholl as she highlights the hurt being caused as the DUP continues to prioritise party over people.
If someone want to speak on behalf of a community, then get a democratic mandate. Local Government election next year.
Of course, elections can also burst someone’s bubble and show how little support they have.
Significant rumours that Victoria Park in East Belfast is to used to have a GAA pitch to be imposed upon the community.
This is an outrageous proposal & entirely unwelcome. The vast majority of the local community do not want the toxic GAA imposed within unionist areas.
This is an appalling situation.
And how many people have been arrested and prosecuted for engaging in intimidation that has led to people to leave their homes?
More than 1,300 people presented themselves as homeless to the Housing Executive due to paramilitary intimidation in the last five years, it can be revealed.

Well done to @Lionesses. Amazing, inspirational victory.

Today I attended the 50th anniversary of the Claudy Bombings, My thoughts are with the friends and families of those who were killed on the day, also with those who survived but still bear the physical and emotional scars of what they experienced on that day.
The Claudy bombings were an appalling atrocity. The IRA brought murder and mayhem to a small village. Thoughts today with the families of the victims and the wider community. 50 years on truth, justice and accountability remain to be addressed.

Happy to catch up today with @StephenFarryMP
I'll respect forever for what he did for me and other Afghans.
Thank you.
Brilliant engagement today in Dublin with Young Fine Gael and NI Youth Forum on a shared island. Lots of challenging conversations. Look forward to further discussions with @yfg @NIYF.
Such an enjoyable session on developing a Shared Island at #GFSS22 this afternoon.
Thanks so much to @StephenFarryMP, @cjhumanrights, @nealerichmond, @NIYF and @AllianceYouthNI for accepting our invite.
Let's keep these conversations going and build a more inclusive Ireland.
Great to catch up today with @Mansoor1375 - one of the Afghans that we helped resettle in Ireland last year. Mansoor is now integrated in his new home and active in his community.

Unequivocal and strong response on recent scenes in Dromore.
We as a community deserve better than to have our name dragged through the mud when the vast majority of us want to live in an open, diverse and shared society where violence is neither perpetrated nor celebrated. https://twitter.com/Ulster_Fleadh/status/1553038742910251008
OFFICIAL STATEMENT - ULSTER FLEADH
Disgraceful scenes in Dromore. There is no place for any celebration of the IRA. They brought huge pain and misery to this society. Deeply concerning to see young people involved in such chanting.
This is a welcome & robust response. And follow up action where warranted is vital

Very sad at the death of Terry Neill. Yet another highly respected person with deep roots in Bangor who passed away this week having achieved so much - this time in the sporting world with Arsenal and Northern Ireland,

We're so excited to reveal our first special guest for this weekend's Garret FitzGerald Summer School, @StephenFarryMP!
Stephen is the Deputy Leader of @allianceparty and is committed to advancing positive relations on the island of Ireland.
We look forward to welcoming him
The majority of the public - including voters of unionist, nationalist and other parties - overwhelmingly back the removal of the veto stopping an Executive being formed.

The passing of David Trimble is very sad. The Good Friday Agreement and a transformed Northern Ireland will be his legacies. He was a giant in the political arena and one of Bangor’s finest ever sons.
The dishonesty continues. The game changer in all of this is UK’s decision to end freedom of movement. Some didn’t quite grasp that it would apply in both directions. Hence additional checks on British passports.
Absolute car crash interview with James Cleverly, who first of all volunteers that only the French can solve the problem at Dover (take back control much?) and then pretends that nothing has changed because UK was never in Schengen. Offensively dishonest tripe. ~AA
It is shameful and disgusting to see the scapegoating of refugees for the problems faced by the UK. UK has capacity to do much more.
Rather problems arise from Brexit, hard-right ideology, and years of under-investment in skills and public services.

It is crucial that discussions between the UK and Irish Governments intensity over coming weeks to find a bespoke solution for non Irish residents of Ireland travelling to NI or indeed whole UK, and for tourists coming to NI.

Oh my! Who’s this guy 😂
Last week I sat across the table from a woman not much older than me who with her daughters had fled war & goes to sleep some nights wishing she wouldn’t wake up. I am deeply concerned about the welfare of asylum seekers in NI & despondent at how many are silent on this issue.
50 years ago today, 9 people were murdered in a wave of horrific bombings in Belfast. The 22 bombs detonated by the Provisional IRA injured another 130. It was an act of grave inhumanity and evil.
Very concerned to see @ukhomeoffice are bringing in the Electronic Travel Authorisation a year early in 2023. Moreover there is no acknowledgement of particular circumstances re Ireland and the burden & risk for non Irish residents who cross border into NI

The Protocol Bill is unwanted, unworkable and damaging. UKG is endangering its economy and reputation to do something to NI opposed by most MLAs and businesses. This is absurd.
Today, I proposed an amendment to give the NI Assembly a vote before the Bill could be commenced.
The Tories and DUP have just passed the Protocol Bill through the House of Commons.
This is yet another reckless act of self-harm for Northern Ireland and the UK as a whole.
Staff at Crawfordsburn Country Park take real pride in their job, working hard to keep the park clean and tidy
They should not have to contend with these scenes
Please take your litter home

We are very disappointed by behaviour shown by some visitors to Crawfordsburn yesterday & trail of rubbish left behind. We commend our staff who worked into the night to complete the clean-up & call on public to put rubbish in the bin or take it home when visiting parks & beaches https://twitter.com/BelfastLive/status/1549399166178267136
It is not a trade deal. It is an MoU.
North Carolina trade deal is just the start of a UK-US relationship that will stand the test of time.

I confirm that I did NOT stand or applaud the outgoing Prime Minister. He disgraced his office, and brought huge damage to the entire UK, and to NI in particular.
Tory MPs stand and applaud the PM as he leaves the chamber.
We continue to campaign for a #greennewdeal. Job creation, social justice, and tackling climate change all go in hand.
We have too much climate change dismissal this week from others.
Tackling climate change and the cost of living crisis goes hand in hand.
We must urgently reduce emissions, insulate our homes and create a fair economy for workers.

This is the man that just a year ago was threatened by the Taliban with execution. Now living in Ireland due to brilliant work by @StephenFarryMP. He has now just got engaged.
Just need Irish Gov to move him & family to their forever homes now. @rodericogorman @simoncoveney
“We need to get real about this,” says @AndrewMuirNI after the recent heatwave was dismissed as hysteria by the DUP's Sammy Wilson.

Watch: Crawfordsburn beach left covered in rubbish last night.
Disgraceful attacks on @PSNIArdsNDown in Crawfordsburn. The police are there to keep everyone safe, especially in challenging times such as packed beaches in hot weather. People must enjoy themselves while respecting residents and the emergency services.

DUP voted aye
Alliance and SDLP voted no

After all the scandal, degradation of public standards, and failures in policy, the DUP have confidence in Boris Johnson’s Government!! Overlooking a lot in the hope for something...

Tory candidates claim they want truth and integrity in politics
Now is the opportunity to demonstrate that their words are meaningful
Together with a cross-party group of MPs, I urge Tory candidates to commit to adopting my Bill to ban lying in politics
I have heard too many harrowing accounts of conditions asylum seekers, who have already been through so much, find themselves in. It’s something @StephenFarryMP & I have and will continue to work on. They deserve so much better.

Some in Tory leadership contest are suggesting there is a trade off between tackling crises of today versus net zero commitments.
Rather both are essential and go hand in hand. We need a #greennewdeal to address energy costs today and to help save planet

Not always a Steve Bray fan, but this policing intervention is very concerning. Further down the slippery slope to an authoritarian state.
This is new! I didn’t read about this in the new Police, crime & sentencing Bill. These two police officers (following orders) have been assigned to stick with and follow me all day! Nothing to see here. Not Fascist at all….
Boris Johnson has been a bad Prime Minister for the UK as whole, and for Northern Ireland in particular.
Today, I highlighted his appalling legacy for Northern Ireland and the Good Friday Agreement.
As Prime Minister Boris Johnson prepares to leave office, will he apologise for his legacy in Northern Ireland?
- @StephenFarryMP
Absolutely disgusting. Solidarity with Naomi and everyone else threatened and abused on bonfires.
🧵So, having become accustomed to seeing my posters burned on bonfires, I honestly thought nothing could shock me anymore. However, late last night I received photos of effigies of me, @moneillsf and @MaryLouMcDonald hanged on the bonfire at Glenfield in Carrickfergus. >

Alliance MP @StephenFarryMP: “As the PM prepares to leave office, will he apologise for his legacy in N Ireland, where power sharing has collapsed, Good Friday has been undermined, an unwanted Protocol Bill imposed and Anglo-Irish relations at their worst state for 40 years?”
Hardly fingers on the pulse stuff from Conservatives here.
Never mind cost of living crisis, climate emergency or state of health service, when you can distract with some culture war stuff.
NEW
First all MP Tory leadership hustings is **tonight**.
Any candidate with over 20 MPs support will be grilled on their approach to the culture wars including controversial statues and British history by the Common Sense Group of Tory MPs. 1/2
New leadership, same old one-sided propaganda
