Well done to all Northern Ireland athletes and medal winners who have performed exceptionally well at @birminghamcg22 so far! Looking forward to seeing their continued success. #GoTeamNI #B2022
As we mark the 50th anniversary of the expulsion of Asians from Uganda, I am very proud that the 28,000 who settled in the UK have made such a significant contribution and fully integrated into the fabric of the nation.
Next year marks the 25th anniversary of the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement. Good to hear the reflections of #WiltonParkNI conference participants, and in particular young people, on what this anniversary will mean to them 👇
Young people from all backgrounds are central to building a more positive and inclusive future in Northern Ireland. 👏
Catch up on the fresh thinking and new ideas coming out of the #WiltonParkNI conference. Read the report from @WiltonPark: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/report-outlines-youth-centred-framework-to-build-a-more-confident-and-inclusive-northern-ireland
It is disappointing to see that once again a Speaker has not been elected at Stormont.
People expect and deserve the Executive to be formed as soon as possible to address issues affecting everyone in Northern Ireland, including the rising cost of living.
David Trimble made an extraordinary contribution to democracy and peace in Northern Ireland. Today, I was very pleased to join with PM @BorisJohnson, @PresidentIRL and others to pay my respects to one of the architects of the peace process. 1/2
Today, my thoughts are with the victims and families of the Claudy bombing on the 50th anniversary of this heinous atrocity.
We remember these difficult moments in our history, and we as a government remain determined to help build a better shared future for all the people of NI.
Fantastic programme of activities and celebrations taking place across Belfast this past week to mark @belfastpride! 🌈
@NIOgov wishes a happy pride to the LGBT+ community and all celebrating today #bproud2022
Good luck to athletes representing Northern Ireland and all across the UK at @birminghamcg22 for the Commonwealth Games! A proud achievement after many months and years of training and preparation. It will be a fantastic 11 days of sport and celebration🏅 #GoTeamNI #B2022
The loss of David Trimble will be felt deeply throughout Northern Ireland. My heart goes out to his family and friends. He will be remembered for his unshaking defence of peace, and his leadership in helping deliver the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement.
My heartfelt condolences go to the family of Sir William Wright.
Sir William was an inspiring businessman at the forefront of Northern Ireland’s manufacturing sector, and leaves behind an incredible legacy.
Wrightbus boss Jo Bamford today praised the legacy of Sir William Wright, who has died at the age of 94
"Everyone @Wright_bus should never forget how this business started. Sir William is an indelible part of this fantastic story.”
Excellent visit to RB Organic in Yaxley in my constituency discussing issues with Chairman @William29151175, CEO James Barker and Cllrs Eric Butler and Kevin Gulson.
Huge thanks to staff who worked during the pandemic ensuring food reached people across the UK
Great to visit @TheAtlasCentre today to find out more about how they support their community through training and #AdultLearning. I was thrilled to hear directly how UKG's #CommunityRenewalFund is transforming the lives of women in NI through skill development. #LevellingUp
The Northern Ireland Protocol Bill will fix the practical problems created by the Protocol.
Yesterday, @HouseofCommons approved the third reading of the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill.
This legislation will provide certainty & stability for NI's people & businesses who have been impacted by the practical problems created by the current implementation of the Protocol.
Ahead of the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill progressing to the @UKHouseofLords, I had a very good meeting with a range of NI business leaders to hear their views on the Protocol.
I welcome the acknowledgement of the Hyde Park & Regent’s Park bombings, and Bloody Friday, by the Prime Minister yesterday in the House of Commons, given the respective milestone anniversaries this week. My thoughts are with the families & those most impacted by such atrocities.
Today the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill will go to Committee Stage in the @HouseofCommons. This legislation will fix the practical problems the Protocol has created in Northern Ireland and protect the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement.
I pay tribute to health professionals across the UK for their bravery & heroism throughout the pandemic. Special congratulations to Sister Joanna Hogg, accepting the George Cross on behalf of colleagues in Northern Ireland. We owe so much to our healthcare workers.
The Twelfth of July is an important cultural date and will be enjoyed by many thousands across Northern Ireland. For those attending parades today, I wish them a safe and enjoyable day.
Very pleased to welcome @simoncoveney to @NIOgov today following our call last week.
A very and productive meeting covering a wide range of issues. I look forward to working with him in the coming weeks and months.
Great to speak with @naomi_long today, following my other conversations with NI Party leaders last week.
Restoring the Assembly and Executive is crucial to ensure we can create a more prosperous Northern Ireland.
Saddened to learn of this tragic accident in Larne last night. My thoughts are with the man's family, friends and community.
We can confirm a man in his 30’s has died following an accident at a bonfire site in the Fairway area of Larne last night, Saturday July 9th.
Fantastic to visit @PrincesTrustNI on my first visit to Northern Ireland as Secretary of State today. Good to learn about how the charity supports young people across NI by developing their confidence and the skills needed to succeed through education, training and employment.
Delighted to be in Belfast today. I look forward to getting to work and meeting with people in Northern Ireland. A truly wonderful place with huge potential.
Good luck to @NorthernIreland as they get ready to play their first match of @WEURO2022 against @nff_landslag in Southampton today. The squad should be incredibly proud of their hard work and achievement. ⚽ #WEURO2022
Very good conversation with @simoncoveney this evening. Looking forward to working with him to restore a fully functioning Executive and Assembly in Northern Ireland as part of the Government's commitment to the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement.
Great to speak with Michelle O’Neill, Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, Doug Beattie and Colum Eastwood today and look forward to speaking with Naomi Long & others in the coming days.
My immediate priority is the restoration of the Northern Ireland Assembly and Executive as soon as possible
A huge privilege to return to the Northern Ireland Office as Secretary of State. Having served previously in the Department I recognise the immense contribution of Northern Ireland, and its people, to the UK and I look forward to representing those interests at the Cabinet table.
This is the right decision by @BorisJohnson. His place in history is secure. He delivered Brexit and oversaw the vaccine rollout and financial assistance plan during the covid pandemic.
And he has led the way in supporting Ukraine at this most dangerous time for Europe.
Very pleased to support @AntiBullyingPro and the @DianaAward in their campaign to encourage young people to #SpeakOutAboutBullying.
Thousands of young people experience bullying every day and nobody should have to face it alone.

Very proud to be an Ambassador for @BreastCancerNow and attend their drop-in in Parliament earlier today.
Recent years have seen a shortfall in breast cancer screening. When it comes to diagnosing and treating breast cancer, there is #notimetowaste
Congratulations to H M The Queen on becoming the world's second longest ruling monarch ever.
Long may she continue to reign.
Queen Elizabeth II is set to become the world’s second longest ruling monarch. On June 12, she will surpass Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej, whose reign lasted 70 years and 126 days
A divided Conservative Party risks losing the next general election. With @BorisJohnson having won the ballot yesterday, we now need to unite and address pressing domestic and international issues rather than talk about ourselves.
I will be backing @BorisJohnson tonight. He has made the right call on many issues - Brexit, vaccine rollout, over £400 billion support during the pandemic and support for Ukraine.
We need to focus on tackling the rising cost of living and delivering for the people of the UK.
RAF flypast over The Mall and Buckingham Palace.
Lovely to be at Trooping the Colour, Her Majesty The Queen's Birthday Parade.
Good to attend @Eastern_PH's reception today at the @pborokeytheatre and meet various companies working to create opportunities and bring more investment to the East of England.
We met with @ShaileshVara MP today to showcase the work we are doing to develop the great facilities at #ARUPeterborough. We discussed the positive impact the university will have on the region. Positive ideas on how we can work with the local community to improve social mobility
Many thanks to @ShaileshVara MP for visiting our office in Peterborough today to discuss #KidneyDisease, #HealthInequalities and how we can work together to raise the profile of the condition.
Very pleased to visit and support Allia Future Business Centre in Peterborough.
Great to see them supporting local entrepreneurs and businesses to help them prosper and create more jobs for our region.
Very pleased to open the new Peterborough office for Home Instead @__Peterborough.
Great to meet Philip and Amy Kennedy again and see their care agency going from strength to strength over the past 10 years.
Very pleased to welcome Coronavirus Community Champions from my constituency to receive awards in Parliament. Huge thanks to @SouthfieldsInfo, Elton Village Stores and Post Office Stores in Abbots Ripton for selflessly helping their communities throughout the pandemic.
Congratulations to all who put in so much hard work to organise another successful Yaxley Festival.
Great fun for the whole family and money raised for charities too.
Plans by @BarclaysCorp to close another of its branches in #Peterborough have been criticised by a city MP @ShaileshVara
Very sad news.
BBC News - Dennis Waterman: Minder and New Tricks star dies aged 74
Extraordinary. @Keir_Starmer has just admitted Labour wouldn’t cancel the National Insurance rise they have been attacking the Government over week after week - which will allow us to deal with NHS Covid backlogs and social care. Yet again, they are just playing political games. https://twitter.com/PaulBrandITV/status/1521742756204453888
Keir Starmer can’t tell @GMB whether or not he’d reverse the national insurance rise.
“At this stage two years out from an election I don’t know what the state of the economy will be.”
He doesn’t look hugely comfortable in the studio this morning.
Giving magistrates increased sentencing powers is to be welcomed, helping to significantly reduce the backlog of cases in the Crown Court.
New powers come into force today giving magistrates the ability to issue sentences of up to 12 months for a single offence.
This will help drive down the backlog in the criminal courts and could free up c.1,700 extra days of Crown Court time annually.
On Yom HaShoah, we pause to remember the 6 million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. Thanks to the work of those across the world, particularly survivors, their memory and legacy will endure for future generations.
I wasn't planning to visit Russia but being put on their banned list won't deter me from speaking out against Russia's illegal invasion of 🇺🇦 and its barbaric war crimes.
🇬🇧 will continue to lead the way in support for Ukraine, both with military equipment and humanitarian aid.
