1. I am pleased that Mrs Justice O’Farrell has supported the Gambling Commission’s recent decision to award the next Lottery licence to new operator Awllyn, and found in the GCs favour in the court case brought by Camelot.

Great to spend time with @conservatives councillors and supporters in #Clacton #Essex today - chatting about getting on with the job on coastal, dental, Ukrainian, and summertime Pimm's issues!

After a busy day in my local Clacton office, my team and I popped down to the seafront and visited various businesses along the way. Apart from the brief shower of rain, it was a lovely sunny seaside day! ☀️

Earlier today, I had the pleasure of visiting Tendring Technology College to present them with my Platinum Jubilee certificates, and I had a lovely lunch with pupils and staff.

I had a very enjoyable visit to the Forest School at Rolph Primary in Thorpe today, as I continue to deliver my personal Platinum Jubilee certificates to children in the constituency of Clacton.

It was my absolute pleasure to welcome His Excellency Mr Varuzhan Nersesyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia, to the House of Commons yesterday. It was truly fascinating to learn about his great nation and how we can work together towards our global goals. 🇦🇲🇬🇧

I have just been to see the students at Kirby Primary to drop off the Platinum Jubilee certificates I made for them. Massive thank you to the School Council for hosting me for lunch!

A splendid morning at Frinton Primary School where I presented students with a personal certificate that I had made for them to celebrate HM The Queen's Platinum Jubilee this year.

I recently went on an out and about surgery where I knocked on constituents' doors to hear from them directly. Check out how I got on below! 👇

I sincerely hope that the US President now does the decent thing and hand over in a positive manner. Take a leaf out of Bush senior’s book and be gracious - if you can...

Just watched the remembrance service on the BBC - very moving and so well put together in these difficult times. We shall remember them - all!

A dear friend and great actor Geoffrey Palmer has died. A lovely man who once said that he wasn’t grumpy, he just looked that way...
Thoughts are with Sally and the family RIP Geoffrey

In October 2019, the APPG held a launch event in Parliament, which was attended by MPs, Peers, and industry professionals. We also had an excellent performance from @MatildaMusical (3/11)

You can read about the event here:

Finally, thank you to our secretariat @uk_theatre/@SOLTnews, and their excellent CEO @julianpbird. They have done so much behind the scenes to put on events and meetings.

Our work would not be possible without them and we look forward to continuing our partnership. (11/11)

I am especially pleased with these funding grants for York having been part of a group of 154 cross-party MPs, led by @GilesWatling and the APPG for Theatre, who wrote to the Chancellor to lobby for direct funding to help support the theatre throughout the pandemic.

From City to seaside @GilesWatling is right that theatres and cultural venues power every part of the country. Very interested to hear more about his suggestion of a voucher scheme.

Chair @JulianKnight15 has written to @RishiSunak urging immediate action to enable the cultural & sporting sectors to recover from Covid-19.

We're calling for a Stage 5 reopening date, sector-specific schemes & sector engagement about mass testing.

Socially-distanced theatre returns thanks to former actor turned MP @GilesWatling

Another morning’s work in the constituency. Thanks for getting in touch. I help where I can, but it’s great to hear from you anyway. Have a great weekend everybody! #Clacton

So pleased to welcome the Minister for Housing, Chris Pincher, to Jaywick today. I had a chance to make the case for significant improvements to the issues faced here. Proud that Tendring District Council is leading the way nationally with council houses and starter homes!

@ChrisPincher @mhclg @Tendring_DC @GilesWatling It was great to meet @ChrisPincher today in Jaywick Sands with @GilesWatling and @PaulHoneywood. We are hugely proud of the fantastic new Council houses we are building there, truly fantastic quality housing.

Looking frwd to talking and listening with my Community tonight at Tendring Online Public Meeting with the @EssexPFCC July 22, 7pm - 8pm - Live on our Facebook Page via Zoom #tendring #pfcc @ClactonGazette @ClactonGazette @GilesWatling @TeenTalkHarwich

Theatres closed by coronavirus now, playhouses shut by the plague in the age of Shakespeare. The Long View returns featuring @PaapaEssiedu @josierourke @GilesWatling @OldFortunatus and Nica Burns

Good to see a major #Clacton tourism offer open again today - the Lifehouse at Thorpe-le-Soken! Enjoy, but take care... ☀️#lifehousespaandhotel

So grateful to have been asked to take part in #radio4 The Long View. It gave me a platform to carry on my campaign to save #theatre in Britain. As chair of #TheatreAPPG in Parliament I intend to fight to keep this unique British offer. Have a listen:

So pleased that the Chancellor has listened to pleas from across the country to save our theatres - £1.57 billion will go a long way to help this benighted world leading sector. We now need to get a sense of timing - when can we open, so we can start to plan! #theatre

Congratulations! I hope you have an enjoyable and productive career. I’m sure you’ll make a positive difference - well done!

On today's Bloomberg Westminster, we discuss the future of the arts:

✅ Actor-turned-MP @GilesWatling on what he's lobbying the government for
✅ @E_N_O CEO @stuartmurphy100 on what post-lockdown opera will look like

Podcast edition:

British theatres need serious support, says actor turned MP | Theatre | The Guardian

We all need to do our best to save one of our greatest cultural offers - theatre!

So moved to hear of the passing of Dame Vera Lynn. A wonderful lady who loved a wonderful life. Giving so much to so many! RIP Vera

As lockdown hit, theatres were among the first and worst affected. Because of their very nature they will be the last out! They are one of the greatest cultural offers this country has globally, we must step up and help!

Lovely to see my pal @GilesWatling on @BBCParliament - Save our theatres, please!

There are clearly some people who would rather have the fight than win the argument.

Violence, vandalism, etc plays right into the hands of racists who feel that black people don’t deserve/can’t handle equality.

These acts are stupid and counterproductive.

I feel immense pride in the way my brave colleagues are doing a tough job to allow for peaceful protest. These are the same officers who turn up to work, day in and day out, to keep us all safe. They are the same officers the violent protestors will turn to when they are in need.
