Great to pop into RE:MAKE Newport this afternoon to hand over some broken straighteners to Philip Davies and get them back in working order.

A wonderful service for Newport residents and a great way to reduce waste.

Day two in Northern Ireland…

@DanielZeichner and I had a wonderful visit to the Ulster Farmers Union and met president William Irvine. (1/4)

Earlier today, the Assembly Speaker @edwinpootsmla welcomed Shadow Minister for Environmental Protection and Animal Welfare, Ruth Jones MP and Shadow Minister for Farming, Food and Fisheries, Daniel Zeichner MP to Parliament Buildings.

The Tories have broken the labour market.

But we've got a plan to fix it:

👩‍🏭 Create hundreds of thousands of good jobs.

✍️ Give people stronger contracts & higher wages with our New Deal for Working People.

🏢 Reform jobcentres so people get proper support.

I am proud Newport's semiconductor cluster powers everyday technologies like cars.

But it's not just about tech. It's about the thousands of people who make it happen and millions who benefit from it.

Really pleased that the house voted (by 1) for the risk-based assessment and exclusion of MPs to be triggered at arrest. Sends a signal that parliament is serious about safe-guarding and improving our work-place

Today @DanielZeichner and I arrived in Northern Ireland for a two-day visit about all things Defra.

Our first visit was to Musgrave — the biggest retailer and wholesaler on the island of Ireland.

Every day, they keep hundreds of thousands of people fed across NI. (1/3)

It’s been great to see the Men’s Shed movement taking root in my home town.

The “shedders” in Malpas are looking to refurbish old laptops so the devices can be given a new life in the hands of local groups.

If you’d like to take them up on their offer, get in touch! 💻👏

Today the Labour Party sends a heartfelt thank you to the nurses who work tirelessly to care for those in need.

Only Labour has a plan to get the NHS back on its feet.

Tory Welsh Secretary broke Ministerial Code with social media video. Typical of the Welsh Secretary to use his govt office to seek to score cheap political points. Under ⁦@UKLabour⁩ the Wales Office will once again deliver for people across Wales

Glorious weather in Graig this morning and some really positive conversations on the doors.

We also spoke to a number of four-legged friends — including this curious cat! 🐈‍⬛ ☀️

I’ll be honest, it’s been a while since I needed to prove my age for a drink.

But for millions of young people across the UK, this change brings an easy, secure option for proving your ID.

Through digital technology like this we can make life easier and safer for everyone.

Since the general election, we’ve hit the ground running on the NHS: ending doctors’ strikes, starting to cut waiting lists, investing in GPs, hospices…

A lot done, a hell of a lot more to do. But as I look to 2025, I can see the road to recovery.

Story:

We promised reform, to bring back the family doctor and to invest more in primary care.

Today we’re announcing the biggest boost to GP funding for years - an extra £889 million! This, combined with reform, will deliver a better experience for patients and relief for GPs.

I respect President Biden's decision and I look forward to us working together during the remainder of his presidency.

I know that, as he has done throughout his remarkable career, he will have made his decision based on what he believes is best for the American people.

So proud of our ministerial team, including @_CallumAnderson as PPS, now complete with responsibilities.

This is the team to boost UK science and harness the power of the new digital centre of government to transform public services and help our economy grow

Govt departments are working seamlessly together to understand the nature of today’s outages and respond appropriately and swiftly.

It’s a huge privilege to have been asked to serve as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in @SciTechgovuk

Super excited to be joining DSIT, the digital centre of government, delivering better services & using science and innovation to power growth.

Spending time with the @SciTechgovuk teams that are harnessing technology to make our public services more personal, convenient and satisfying to use.

Bursting with pride and excitement at the talent and ambition of the new DSIT

The Department for Science, Innovation & Tech will expand, bringing in experts from @GDSTeam, Central Digital & Data Office and @i_dot_AI.

This will drive transformation of public services and people's interaction with govt so it's personalised, convenient & timesaving.

Failure after failure.

At Parc prison, 9 people have died in just two months.

At Bedford, cells were flooded with raw sewage.

At Wandsworth, following an escape the prison still isn’t secure and the Governor has resigned.

When will this Tory government take responsibility?

🧵At #PMQs today @keir_starmer pushed Rishi Sunak over the Governments early release policy- which is seeing prisoners being released up to 70 days early from prison.

Since October we have been pushing the Government over their complete lack of transparency on this scheme. 1/7

Yesterday I met @Se_Railway & @networkrail
to discuss rail provision in #LewishamEast & I was updated on:

➡️ The upcoming closure of Blackheath Tunnel for 10 weeks
➡️ Getting new & better trains
➡️ Improving accessibility at stations

Residents deserve the best possible service

For the first time in 17 years, government will review how every pound of tax payers money is being spent.

In the spending review, we will make sure public spending delivers our Plan for Change.

✅ Strong new powers to tackle public sector fraud
✅ Turbocharge the fight against welfare fraud
✅ Double the time limit for COVID fraud claims

Today I spoke with the Chancellor about progress on the exciting proposal to bring Universal Studios to Bedford.

The project has huge potential for our region.

While she couldn't go into detail as talks are ongoing, things look positive!

I will share updates in due course 👀

We are tripling the emergency funding from £10 million to £30 million to help more rough sleepers off the streets.

This will help the most vulnerable into safe and secure housing with warm beds, hot meals, and specialist care.

The Government has tripled funding to local authorities to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping.

In Bedford, we see far too many people being forced to sleep rough.

If you or anyone you know needs help, I urge you to reach out for help via http://www.bedford.gov.uk/housing/homelessness-and-temporary-accommodation

🚨 We’re giving councils an extra £20 million to protect those sleeping rough.

❄️The cold winter months can be extra hard for those rough sleeping and this money will help provide extra beds.

The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel is an important but fragile moment of hope. We must work to secure peace. Only then can the rebuilding begin.

Today, I asked @DavidLammy to back a lasting peace & two-state solution, as well as help get vital aid to Gaza.

#GazaCeasefire

Lord Ken Clarke: "Rachel Reeves is a perfectly intelligent, serious woman... so you can't blame the first 6 months of the Labour government for the problems we now face..."

I am pleased Bedford Borough will benefit from £1.2m of £57m funding Government pledged last week, to support Start for Life services to families with babies from pregnancy up to the age of two. This is on top of £69m in the Budget for a new network of family hubs. #StartForLife

I was very pleased to vote for the Renters' Rights Bill yesterday, to make renting fairer and more affordable for tenants.

The Bill will:

❌End no-fault evictions
💷Stop renters being ripped off by upfront payments
🏠Protect tenants from damp and mould

Labour is taking action to protect renters where the Tories shamefully failed.

Our Renters’ Rights Bill will deliver new protections for 11 million private tenants.

I was pleased to welcome ⁦@DianaJohnsonMP⁩, Policing Minister, to Bedford. ⁦@YasinForBedford⁩ joined us in the town. We met retailers to hear about their experience of retail crime. The Minister and I are committed to tackling this crime and enhancing local policing.

Today @SKinnock and I announce the biggest funding for hospices in a generation:

£100 million for improving buildings, kit and technology

£26 million grant for children and young people’s hospices

An early Christmas present for hospices that do a wonderful job for families.

Driving home for Christmas? Labour’s got you covered:

✅ £1.6 billion boost to repair roads
✅ Freezing fuel duty
✅ Tackling out-of-control car insurance premiums

Great to catch up with @NFUPolitical in Parliament last week and restate my support for British farming.

I’ll always support our local farmers and value the hugely important work they do for our economy and food security.

Just 2 weeks & new @UKLabour Govt is restoring funding to UNRWA. V welcome: its work is vital.

Situation in Gaza is horrific. 94% reduction in water supply, just 5 litres per person per day. Nowhere near enough aid & the shocking loss of lives.

A ceasefire is so urgently needed

Shocked to see some of the damage inflicted on gravestones at Leamington Cemetery this week.

If you have any information that may help the police, please contact oakleywood@warwickdc.gov.uk / 01926 651418 or call Warks Police with reference 23/28458/24

A privilege to be sworn in for the 3rd time as the Member of Parliament for Warwick and Leamington earlier this week.

It still feels just as much an honour as it did back in 2017 and 2019.

Thank you for once again placing your faith in me. It’s the greatest job around.

The Tories said the SEND system is “lose, lose, lose”.

I agree.

The difference is I’m gripping the issue. We have already restructured the Department to focus on improving inclusion in mainstream schools for children with SEND.

A long way to go, but an important start.

Urgent clarification is needed on the Warks PCC’s attendance at the now infamous Warwick Uni Tory students’ black tie dinner.

Colleagues and I join others in a loss of confidence in his ability to serve the people of Warks. Can he regain this trust?

I’m writing urgently to the Commissioner to press for further info on his attendance.

Really touched by this email from a constituent in Warwick who kindly has allowed me to share this anonymised version.

Someone who had never voted before lent me their vote on account of the support and representation my small team and I had provided them. Really special.

Great to have our first Warwickshire Labour MPs meeting early this morning 🌹

I went into this election as the sole Labour MP in Warwickshire and am returning to Parliament as one of 4!

Jodie, John and Rachel, welcome to Parliament. Let’s get started!

Honoured to be appointed as Minister for Women & Equalities.

Having managed a women’s refuge before entering Parliament, I know how important the portfolio is.

The brief is vital to Labour’s mission to break down the barriers to opportunity.

I can’t wait to get started.

Filmed this video during the campaign but it demonstrates exactly what @UKLabour have outlined today.

We will use brownfield and greybelt sites, just like this one here in Warwick, to deliver the truly affordable housing we need.

This Labour Government isn't just cleaning up the mess of the past 14 years.

We're ripping up the roots of Thatcherism - which has run our transport services into the ground for decades.

Together we will put power over public transport back where it belongs: In public hands🤝🌹

Thanks to @MaritimeUK for hosting an excellent reception yesterday. As I said in my address to you, the UK is very much open for business. 🇬🇧 🌹

I went to Cornish Close this morning which is supported living for adults in Wythenshawe. When I visited earlier this year the residents were all really proud of their individual gardens so it was great to see their vision for a communal garden become a reality 💐🥒 🥬 🥕 🌹

It's Paralympic GOLD once again for @DameSarahStorey on the road. What more can you say about this phenomenal athlete.
