This deportation demonstrates that @ukhomeoffice is not showing any compassion when it comes to immigration and asylum.
There is still time and I hope the Home Office reverses its decision.
This Government last threatened to deport Raji, a gay man, to Nigeria four years ago.
Tonight, during #PrideMonth, they are trying again, ignoring the death threats Raji has faced in Nigeria and the fact he could spend 14 years in prison for being gay.
I'm glad that questions are now being asked within the Home Office, but there needs to be a review of children in police custody!
Children are being detained for too long (13 hours on average!) and there's a 6 hour wait for appropriate adults.
Does anyone else have any other good caption ideas? 😴
There have been multiple and deeply troubling scandals that have plagued the @metpoliceuk for several years.
It is vital these failures are addressed and corrected as soon as possible.
As the Met Police have been placed in special measures, should the appointment of the new Commissioner be paused and rethought?
My letter to Home Secretary @pritipatel yesterday 👇🏾
Conservatives are the party of national defence? Give me a break...
Less troops 🪖, less planes✈️and less ships🚢under their watch. The only thing the PM is interested in defending is his own job #PMQs
Today I led a Westminster Hall debate on the rights of children in police custody.
Currently the safeguards in place for children are wholly inadequate. I will continue to put pressure on the @ukhomeoffice until this is properly addressed.
Under the Tories, people are being forced to wait months for passports, GP appointments, A&E treatment and court trials. And summer travel plans are being disrupted.
Labour will tackle Boris Johnson’s backlogs by building a stronger, more secure economy.
This is a concerning case. @ukhomeoffice and @pritipatel are trying to deport a number of at risk people who will suffer if flown to Nigeria and Ghana.
One of my constituents who is gay fears for his safety if this flight goes ahead.
The @DHSCgovuk's draft Mental Health Bill does not go far enough to address the wait times people in crises face when they present themselves to A&E to be treated.
@sajidjavid told me it was one of his priorities for NHS, I'll believe that when I see it...
I’m so proud and delighted to be on the shortlist in Exeter. I hope members will support me. I’ll work hard to earn every vote.
Thank you to everyone who’s supported my campaign so far. We are united to win.

Keir Starmer reacts to the results of the by-election, as Labour retakes Wakefield
“Somebody must take responsibility” and yet it never seems to be @borisjohnson who has to do this…
The results from last night show that voters have had enough and want a change.
Britain deserves better.
My letter of resignation to the Prime Minister.
Welcome to Parliament @simonlightwood👏 🌹
Congratulations to @simonlightwood!
The new Labour MP for Wakefield. 🌹

We need #CleanAir and we need it now!
Air pollution is a real problem in #Lewisham and around the country. We must have a joined up approach to tackle this crisis.
On Saturday I held a Clean Air Fair because local people deserve better when it comes to tackling Air Pollution.
Hundreds of courageous British Council contractors are still stuck in Afghanistan, facing daily violence from the Taliban as a result of their cooperation with the UK.
The Government must act to evacuate those who promoted security, tolerance and democracy in Afghanistan.
📣 Are you an unpaid carer in Lewisham?
🌟 We want to ensure that carers are visible, valued and supported in our future plans. We're running an UNPAID CARER ONLINE SURVEY to make sure that we identify the priorities that matter most.
It was great speaking with young students at @LewishamYla about politics and leadership last week. Many of them were 3rd/4th/5th Windrush Generation children.
This an excellent initiative by @lewishamcouncil and I look forward to my next visit.
Saw an exhibit focused on Sybil Phoenix -what an extraordinary woman!!
She was a Lewisham foster carer, set up halfway houses for vulnerable women, estab. the 1st purpose built Black community centre, and a tireless campaigner for justice after the New Cross fire.
Go see it:👇
After four years I stood down tonight as Chair of the APPG for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.
Thank you so much to @SickleCellUK and everyone I have worked with in this role. And congratulations and best wishes to @JanetDaby who will be a brilliant successor.
This evening I was honoured to take over the Chair position from @patmcfaddenmp and to be elected Chair of the APPG on Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.
Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia services must be improved. The situation at the moment is not acceptable.
Passports, driving licences, health waiting times, strikes. A government without grip. It doesn’t function. It only campaigns. From @SkyNews this morning.
On #WindrushDay2022 we pay tribute to the whole Windrush Generation. 74 Years ago, people from #Commonwealth countries moved to the UK to help rebuild the country after the war.
Many faced huge adversity, but their commitment to our future was unwavering.
Following the discussion I chaired on ‘Joining Up Red Cell Exchange Services’, it is exciting to see this life changing therapy for #sicklecelldisease is being supported by @NHSEngland. Universal access is vital in improving quality of care and tackling ethnic health inequalities
It's unbelievable that @TrussLiz made no attempt to defends cuts to development aid in the midst of a global food and hunger crisis in FCDO questions today.
Britain should be leading on, not retreating from, the world stage.
#CHOGM is a chance to raise concerns about Sri Lanka's human rights, while also offering long term support.
The Govt outlined a Indo-Pacific strategy in the Integrated Review - support for Sri Lanka is a chance to demonstrate it is serious about it's commitment to the region.
Under the Conservatives, working people are facing a nightmare summer of travel chaos.
Police cells have been designed for adults not minors, yet children are frequently detained in these cells for as long as adults, with data showing that the average time spent in police custody is increasing.
Clearly the law isn't working for children in the justice system.👇
@RitaMor33383974 @bbcamberwell @HACAN1 @JanetDaby @FHSoc @planehell @PaulBeckford84 @MumsForLungs @cleanairdayuk @LouiseKrupski Yes indeed , #Lewisham MPs @JanetDaby @elliereeves have been very supportive on the noise , crossing flight paths at low levels and emissions problems caused by @LondonCityAir and @HeathrowAirport in SE London and have both raised the issues in Parliament.
From being closed for eight years and abandoned, we are now open for 5x evenings per week and looking forward to a bright future and building! Thanks 2 our major partners @riofoundation @TNLComFund and stakeholders @TheSportingWay @LewishamCouncil @ChinbrookAction @CommLinksBrom
I will be sure to look out for Attlee as I go round Parliament @CommonsSpeaker!
Introducing Attlee. A bold little kitten who's brought much joy to my office and team. He brings a smile to the faces of everyone he comes into contact with on the Parliamentary estate. Of course I'll always miss Patrick, and I'm certain they both would have got along very well.
Gustavo Petro has won Colombia's presidential election.
Francia Márquez is the country's new vice-president.
Their @PactoCol coalition was backed by trade unions, social movements and the pro-peace movement.
A historic result for the Colombian people!
This evening I want to say #HappyFathersDay to all dads and carers. My thoughts also go to those remembering loved ones who are no longer with us. For many it’s a tough day
I also hope the Ashoori family celebrated being back together after many Father’s Days apart @FreeAnoosheh
Marching today with @DaWNLabour members @The_TUC for all my constituents feeling the unbearable pressure of the cost of living crisis & the Tories’ failure of our public services
Boris Johnson is running the UK into the ground & it’s time for change #DemandBetter #JoinAUnion
Look who has arrived at the Manor House Gardens Festival! Always lovely to see @JanetDaby out and about in Lee Green.
Very pleased to join @TrinityLaban for their Hope 4 Justice event today.
It was a privilege to know so many young talented people who were protesting about the very real dangers of the climate emergency.
Today I hosted a #CleanAirFair in Lewisham.
Local communities must come together to spread awareness about the harms of air pollution.
We can do it - but all together! The Government needs to lead and tackle this crisis head on!
@Len_Duvall @EllaRobertaFdn @TauseefAnwar07
The Government is failing Britain on the cost of living crisis. Which is why people have taken to the streets in protest.
I joined them today at the @The_TUC rally march in central London to demonstrate that we all #DemandBetter
A year ago Boris Johnson promised to share 100 million surplus vaccines with the world’s poorest countries.
A year later: barely a third have been delivered, he has cut the aid budget to do it, and profiteered at poor countries’ expense.
It is a disgrace that this is even being considered. Totally unacceptable and I am sure it is against therapist’s code of ethics.
Then again @BorisJohnson and his Government have shown us they have no regards for ethics…
I am one of almost 100 Labour women MPs who have written to Boris Johnson today urging him to block new rules which threaten the rights of rape survivors to seek counselling before their attackers go on trial. No survivor should ever have to choose between therapy and justice.
It is clear that the Government are failing to tackle air pollution.
According to the @NAOorguk they are not making enough progress on their 2030 targets.
They are also not informing the public about air quality problems in local areas.
Come down to Catford Broadway tomorrow, 11am-4pm, to speak with some of our teams, community groups and other organisations about how we can work together to create cleaner air 💙

Today is #CleanAirDay
We are all in a climate emergency. The polluted air we breathe in damages our health and even kills people.
To help spread awareness, a Clean Air Fair will be held for #Lewisham residents this Saturday from 11am - 4pm at Catford Broadway.
Whilst our NHS staff are under unimaginable pressure everyday, @BorisJohnson is too busy dealing with yet another internal crisis #Geidtgate.
This country deserves a Government that will prioritise our emergency and health services.
This country needs a @UKLabour Government🌹

Air pollution is an issue that impacts everyone. On Saturday the #CleanAirFair is a chance to raise awareness and champion “Clean Air.”
If you’re local to #Lewisham, come along! It would be great to see you there. @LewishamCouncil
