A lovely morning at Seymour Road Primary School in Clayton this morning to award Jedidiah her prize and certificate for winning my Christmas card competition! 📮

Thank you to all the schools who entered and I can't wait for next year's competition 🌲

Since the King's Speech in July the Government have been busy delivering their packed legislative agenda - scroll across to find out more about what the Leader of the House @LucyMPowell has been up to. #Parliamentwrapped

Manchester Victoria tops the list of worst station for cancellations, with Manchester Oxford Road second.

A damning indictment of 14 years of underinvestment, mismanagement and industrial action. This has particularly affected routes around Mcr.

After the legacy we've inherited from 14 years of Conservative government, Labour has had to take some difficult decisions. But we are turning oil tanker around. The work has begun ….

At business questions today, I laid out some of the ways we're doing it 👇🏻

In Manchester we are working hard to prevent and reduce homelessness.

Support from Government is crucial for us to meet our ambitions. We know @AngelaRayner is committed to working with us to help end homelessness.

Today we are announcing the biggest ever cash boost for councils to tackle homelessness.

This government is determined to take immediate action and get back on track to ending homelessness once and for all.

I welcome today’s announcement of £14.8M from the Labour Government to tackle homelessness here in Manchester, an increase of 46% from last year.

After 14 years of Tory cuts driving homelessness up, we’re turning the tide and delivering real change.

Great event tonight Labour Women Parliamentary Staff Network! ⁦@ayeshahazarika⁩ ⁦@LucyMPowell⁩ ⁦@jessphillips⁩ ⁦@kimleadbeater⁩ ⁦@SharonHodgsonMP⁩

Great to join members of Manchester Central Labour for our Christmas do. We particularly enjoyed hearing from our member Amin. He’s from Syria and told us of his optimism and hope now, and thanked Labour for all the support we have given over the years.

It was such a pleasure to speak with a group of young people earlier this week about all-things politics as part of @BBCNewsround. I loved their questions, from how we work together to cracking on with the issues that matter to them.

Our Clean Power Action Plan will herald a new era of clean electricity.

A future where our energy system is reliant on homegrown clean power, not fossil fuel markets controlled by dictators.

A system that will provide energy security, good jobs and lower bills.

The country voted for change and Labour is delivering.

Change to improve living standards across the country.

Change to fix our NHS and get it back on its feet.

Whilst the Conservatives flail and fail, Labour is putting ordinary people first.

We are making the big change the country voted for.

Rebuilding Britain and fixing the mess the Conservatives left us.

Taking action to put ordinary people at the front of the queue.

Business Questions today 👇🏻

As I said to him in the Comons last week I will miss @CPhilpOfficial “boundless enthusiasm” at Business Questions. God does love a trier and the new Leader of the Opposition does too.

Congratulations to @Jesse_Norman on the new job. I look forward to our exchanges.

Labour’s budget made choices:

responsibility not recklessness

investment not decline

decent public services

And putting working people first

Today Business Questions speech (with a possible farewell to my oppo) 👇🏻

The first Labour budget in 14 years:
Record funding for the NHS
More teachers and SEN funding
Affordable housing
Cladding remediation
A pay rise for lowest earners
Major investment in jobs of the future
And more

NEW

IMF back today’s UK tax-raising Budget

“welcome the budget’s focus on boosting growth
-needed increase in public investment -support the envisaged reduction in the deficit .. including by sustainably raising revenue”

A Labour budget made for working people 👇

🏥 Cutting NHS the waiting lists and repairing our hospitals
🏡 Building more new homes, affordable homes, remediation
📈 Raised the minimum wage
👩‍🏫 investment in our crumbling schools and recruiting teachers
🤝 Further devolution…

A proper day’s work deserves a proper day’s pay.

Our changes mean a pay boost for more than 3 million workers, helping low earners cover the basics.

We were elected on a promise to Make Work Pay and we are delivering on that promise. ✍🏻 ⬇️

Labour has a lot to celebrate this week.

While the media focused on Budget speculation, the government has quietly been fixing the country.

8 important changes:

“New rules on MPs second jobs come into force tomorrow. We said we’d drive up standards in Parliament, and we are. Another manifesto commitment delivered”
@LucyMPowell

New rules on MPs second jobs come into force tomorrow.

We said we’d drive up standards in Parliament, and we are.

Another manifesto commitment delivered.

Today is the 30th sitting day in Parliament since the election. We’ve introduced 20 Bills in that time, far more than the Tories did in 2010.

A far cry from the zombie parliament before the last election where the Tories ran out of ideas, couldn’t agree, and failed.

Another important Bill being introduced today 👇 putting fans at the heart of football and ensuring financial sustainability of the game.

The justice system is rising to challenge of these days of disorder – despite the dire Tory legacy we inherited. This will make rebuilding our justice system harder, but that won't stop up. My piece in @guardian today.

Great to meet @OfficialUoM new Vice-Chancellor @DuncanIvison with Nancy Rothwell who is leaving after many years of immense leadership. Nancy has had a profound impact on our city.  I look forward to working with Duncan to build on her legacy and more.

#APPEAL | We are investigating an outbreak of disorder which took place at Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester city centre on Saturday 3 August 2024.

If you recognise the people pictured, please get in touch with police through the MIPP portal - https://orlo.uk/OoFIs

In Manchester we stand united against violence, hatred, and disorder.

The city centre remains open for business. @BevCraig and I support our city centre businesses and residents.

As @GBTaekwondo gets underway in Paris from today, I want to wish each of @TeamGB competitors the best of luck! It was great to catch up with them at the National Taekwondo Centre in Mcr before they left. I’ll be watching as they compete over the next few days 🏅

#UPDATE | A message to our communities.

These are challenging times, but we are immensely proud to see the majority of our residents standing together and condemning this unacceptable disorder. Your unwavering support has not gone unnoticed.

Businesses, visitors and residents should be assured that tough action is being taken to keep the city centre safe.

Our city is united and is diverse, that’s what makes us a great place to be.
