Good discussion between 🇬🇧 @CommonsDefence delegation & my 🇮🇩 colleague HE Dr Siswo Pramono & 🇲🇾 Defence Attaché to gain insights from SE Asia - important to understand how our #IndoPacific tilt & #AUKUS looks to others.

Carrie Johnson and the curious case of the vanishing Times story https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/jun/19/carrie-johnson-and-the-curious-case-of-the-vanishing-times-story?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Anyway, whatever bright sparks at the Times - and it went over the head of the acting editor - and later at MailOnline who decided to pull this story have done Johnson no favours. This is now a major talking point. Also seriously damaging to the reputation of these media outfits.
The competitiveness/infighting of internal Momentum ballots seems to increase as their influence in actual Labour Party ballots decreases. https://twitter.com/charliemansell/status/1538586159370092545
Third slate emerges for @PeoplesMomentum NCG elections as @MomentumInt_ joins race along with @YourMmtm & @MOrganisers They also recommend a transfer strategy to the former https://twitter.com/MomentumInt_/status/1538583678976200704
Really interesting analysis of the @UKLabour NEC nominations - headline figure is that @labtowin is up 18% leading the noms with 42% of the total. Turnaround over the last 2 years has been phenomenal, and driven by a re-energised Labour mainstream - let’s keep it up!🌹 https://twitter.com/charliemansell/status/1537876651991715840
Updated NEC nominations at end of process:
@PeoplesMomentum/@future_we_need 35% (-8%) @CLPD_Labour 6% (+6%) @RedLabour_ 2% (+2%) [combined left multi-slates 43% (-6%)] @labtowin 42% (+18%) @OpenLabour 13% (+2%), Independent 2% (-7%) https://labourlist.org/2022/05/rolling-list-2022-clp-nominations-of-labour-nec-local-party-rep-candidates/
@JYDenham @spellar The exact system is the whole key. Every single PR system is worse that FPTP for different reasons. PR advocates will never say which they favour because they can all be demolished one by one.
It's absolutely key, if you are asking the public to change the voting system you have to let them know your alternative so they can make a fair comparison
@spellar Needs to be significantly more proportional, though exact system is not key to the argument.
simple question John if you are arguing to change the electoral system you should be clear what you propose to replace it with
Labour can and must transform the UK into a union of nations: why electoral reform, England’s government and democracy, the future of the union, and Labour’s political and social aims need the same set of reforms https://labourlist.org/2022/06/labour-can-and-must-transform-the-uk-into-a-union-of-nations-heres-how/
This is excellent news. And those of us with a long-standing interest in the issue of posthumous honours will be wondering why we can't show the same flexibility in the UK when someone either dies before their time, or before their achievements have been fully appreciated. https://twitter.com/guardiannews/status/1535964825708290048

Shadow Chancellor @RachelReevesMP addressing our Annual Meeting and calling for the Tories to make way for a Labour government with the ideas to tackle the cost of living crisis and the integrity the Tories lack
Quite a moment for Boris when his ex-employer, @Telegraph, devotes this much of its Letters page to…trashing him.
This article is hilarious; full of weasel phrases like “intelligence-adjacent” and “probable MI6 operative”. Respect to @paulmasonnews for fighting the good fight, though. The dictator-loving “fascist-adjacent” far left is in meltdown.

for Labour to get re-elected in 2001 by a massive margin of 412-166 was in many ways even more of a triumph than 1997, remind me , who was the PM who achieved that ?
@davidwhitaker40 Nadia has managed to airbrush 1997 out of history by referring to "this century"
Under a @UKLabour Government, the Liberal Democrats would form alliances and coalitions with the Conservatives just as quickly as they wish to do so with us.
They can't be trusted.
well Richard i know you were only at primary school in the 80's but the lesson from those years is that all the demos, protests and strikes didn't get rid of a Tory Government only a General Election win by an electable Labour Party
More mass protests, demonstrations and strikes are needed to force the Tories and bad bosses to deliver the changes that workers need to tackle this cost-of-living crisis.

Why Boris Johnson's speech to the 1922 Committee was in fact a disaster. Labour gets to put what he said on their leaflets. https://twitter.com/UKLabour/status/1534226183323123712
Boris Johnson and his Tory Party take the British public for fools.
Only Labour will put the public first, tackle the cost of living crisis and restore your trust in politics.
and worse the promoted one is only temporarily happy and the others are permanently disgruntled
Johnson can’t do major reshuffle. Every shuffle is guaranteed to piss off at least 3 people - the minister who is sacked, the existing minister who is not promoted and the backbencher tipped for advancement but overlooked. Three disgruntled for everyone made happy.
As Westminster prepares for a Conservative leadership vote tonight, we've taken a look at the Newsnight archives.
When Prime Minister Theresa May survived a confidence vote in 2018, Jacob Rees-Mogg told us she should resign after 117 votes were cast again her
#Newsnight https://twitter.com/BBCNewsnight/status/1072990467598385152
“This is a very bad result for the prime minister, 117 votes against her… much worse than she thought” says Jacob Rees-Mogg MP, who insists the result is worse that it looks as an ”overwhelming majority of backbenchers have voted against her”

Worried about energy prices?
Wonder what could be done to fix them?
Look no further than Gas Reservation. In WA they reserve 15% of their gas for domestic use. The rest of the country does not.
This is what policy failure looks like 👇👇

The Government failed to plan for the pandemic.
‘Wanting and inadequate’
Those are the words of Nadine Dorries - who was a health minister when it broke out and now sits in the Cabinet.
This is a damning indictment. They’re not fit to govern.
https://www.independent.co.uk/independentpremium/uk-news/nadine-dorries-hunt-covid-pandemic-b2095119.html
Tories did what they always do: undermined the NHS, leaving it ill-prepared/under-staffed despite the Government risk assessment highlighting the threat of a pandemic. Tories admitting this today due to the battle to depose Johnson is a new low for families who lost loved ones. https://twitter.com/MirrorPolitics/status/1533784019783110658
Nadine Dorries admits Tory Covid preparedness 'inadequate' in self-own spat with Jeremy Hunt
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/nadine-dorries-admits-tory-covid-27158190
true , and very revealing of how Tory Govt neglected planning and exercising for a pandemic , and please don't try and confuse the issue by claiming its all down to a difference between flu and Covid
3/4 Your pandemic preparation during six years as health secretary was found wanting and inadequate.Your duplicity right now in destabilising the party and country to serve your own personal ambition, more so.
This is quite a letter from Jesse Norman 👇 https://twitter.com/Jesse_Norman/status/1533699235417403393
I have supported Boris Johnson for 15 years, for the London Mayoralty and for PM. Very sadly, I have written to him to say I can no longer do so, for the reasons set out below.
Confidence vote in @borisjohnson -the latest from me on the @bbcnews website
@lukeakehurst @spellar @BlairPScott95 @RobShorrock I’m not opposed to progressive alliance’s, I just support the one that already exists, It’s called The Labour Party
It may sound a bit mundane but what will actually beat the Tories is Labour winning an election
The fight back starts with the @The_TUC national demo on 18 June. But we will need many more demonstrations, protests, & strikes to defeat the Tories. Come to this rally and join the resistance.
London June 6 - Indian YMCA - W1T 6A
Speakers include
@BlairPScott95 @rorydash90 You might want to look up who came second in recent elections in Tiverton & Honiton.
@BlairPScott95 @RobShorrock I'm opposed to progressive alliances, not least because I think the Lib Dems aren't progressive, you are a bunch of Tory-enabling opportunists.
no mention of he impact of delays in security clearance for airport and airline staff and shortage of Border Guards , has Shapps been pressing other Departments about these and have they responded ?
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps blames the aviation chaos on airlines making too many job cuts during the pandemic, overselling flights and being surprised by the scale of demand for foreign holidays.
#SundayMorning
Say what you like about Britain we throw a pretty damn spectacular party (Oh and we have the BBC to stage it and bring the nation together) #PlatinumPartyatthePalace
The BBC delivered tonight. As it always does. British broadcasting at its best. Long may it continue. #PlatinumPartyatthePalace #PlatinumJubilee
nomination of Danielle Simonet, Mélenchon’s protégé, for north of Paris, called unjust by Lamia El Aaraje, said she would maintain her candidacy with support of Parisian Socialist Party and ex-pm Lionel Jospin.,pointed to her win against her in Paris’15th constituency in 2021.
Excellent to visit Paris and campaign alongside @Simonnet2 in the 20th arrondissement with @Deputee_Obono and dozens of enthusiastic @NUPES_2022_ activists standing up for economic, climate and social justice across France this month.
Solidarity, unity, victory!
My warmest congratulations to my friend and colleague @NiaGriffithMP on being made a ‘Dame’. Well deserved!
An uncomfortable truth that Momentum conspiracy theorists will find hard to accept
Millionaires and big business 😂. It's @laurenhowellss and me and a spreadsheet. That is what you have been losing to.
What we have is the mainstream of the party. It's all we will ever need. https://twitter.com/PeoplesMomentum/status/1531910412471525376
Far from being beaten because of people backed by “big businesses and millionaires”you’re being beaten by people like me, a working class girl from Hartlepool, angry at what your politics did for Labour here. And many other determined organisers across the country, wanting to win
Giving Momentum some straight talking home truths
You drove the party into the ground in your 5 years of ascendancy. Your politics is vastly unpopular with the electorate and now increasingly with members of your party. You are not the future of socialism, you had your chance and you gave working people a Tory government future https://twitter.com/PeoplesMomentum/status/1531910412471525376
well deserved and many congratulations from the UK Richard and our Commons Defence Committee looks forward to meeting you later this month
Honoured to be sworn in this morning as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence.
There is a lot of work to do, and I'm ready to get started.
Thanks for all the kind words and messages.

not wanting to let airline bosses off the hook , but how much of the delay in recruitment is down to absurd hold-ups in Govt's own vetting service
