Wakefield last night just signalled the start of a Labour Government in waiting.
🌹Wakefield is Labour’s first by-election gain from the Tories since 2012
🌹This swing of 12.7% would see Labour win an overall majority at a General Election
🌹Our best result in Wakefield since 2001 — and best ever on these boundaries
🌹Labour is now a government in waiting
Very interesting thread....
A thread on the SNP's history of covering up rather than confronting alleged bad behaviour in their ranks. 1/
How many more people will lose or leave their jobs without dealing with the actual source of the problem.
Tory chairman now gone….
My letter of resignation to the Prime Minister.
Wonderful result and a great addition to parliament. Wakefield has chosen well.
Congratulations to @simonlightwood!
The new Labour MP for Wakefield. 🌹
Resign and lead by example. It’s clear that if something or someone (sexual harassment) damages the cause then cover it up. Disgraceful.

The Tories are demanding pay restraint and avoiding trying to resolve the rail dispute despite meeting to discuss how they can lift the limits on City pay. And in Scotland the SNP just keep on the same old record.

The Prime Minister’s answer to my question could not have been clearer. Much like his answers on #PartyGate. And PPE contracts. And proroguing Parliament. Watch this space 👀 #PMQs

Kids born when Tories came to power r going 2High school & Tories response “it’s all Labours fault”. Pathetic
Would it not be better to back the law against the perpetrator of the crime rather than on those that exposed their duplicity?
NEW:
The SNP’s Chief Whip Owen Thompson has threatened the party’s own MPs with legal action over the leaking of the recording of them backing Patrick Grady MP, who was found to have made unwanted sexual advances towards a 19 year old.
🎥 Nicola Sturgeon lied. She only has one priority and it isn’t you.
Another woeful response https://twitter.com/vanessataaffe/status/1538178521167712259
I asked @KeithBrownSNP about reports in The Mail that SNP MPs were asked by @Ianblackford_MP to give their “absolute full support” to Patrick Grady.
He was found to have breached Parliament’s sexual misconduct policy.
The most famous "toe poke" of all time.
Exactly 40 years ago today at World Cup 1982.

This doesn’t set the example required by leaders to help clean up Westminster. SNP MPs and MSPs are too timid to question their own leadership. This is what happens.

The PM asking his former ethics adviser if he can break the law. Unbelievable
NEW:
Letter from Lord Geidt toughens language on why he quit
He says he “could not be party to advising on potential law breaking”
Admits his resignation letter may have been too cautious
Lovely to support @BobCatAlpacas run by my constituents Bob and Cat. It's a great day out for all the family. My alpaca for the day was called Orlando but I renamed him The Godfather - Al PacaCino.

£250m+ of tax payers money for 2 x £45m ferries that may never sail.
A once in a generation opportunity to deliver for Scotland’s island communities lost. Incompetence? Corruption? Or both?
Two delayed and over-budget ferries at the centre of a long-running political row are now "obsolete", the former director of the shipyard building them has said. https://trib.al/QJQze07
Will be good to get the extended playground made permanent.
Great to mark #CleanAirDay2022 with pupils, parents and Councillors. Let's aspire to have clean air every day for safe, active travel to school! Wonderful to have @Edinburgh_CC & cross party support for this longstanding @EPScotland initiative and lovely to meet @CllrScottArthur
It was great to spend time at @SciennesPS with @EPScotland to mark #cleanairday today. The kids were great, and they love the road being closed outside their school. Let's work with the community to make it permanent. 👍
Looks like the No10 line on Geidt is "he resigned over steel subsidies". Don't be fooled. It was because the prime minister was prepared to deliberately break the ministerial code.
Emotional moment in the Parliament as former miners see the passing of the Miners’ Pardon Bill.
Whilst I was proud to vote for this legislation, there is still unfinished business as Labour's amendments for compensation were voted down.
Boris Johnson
>Didn’t like rules on Owen Paterson so tried to bin them
>Doesn’t like courts getting in his way so rants about lawyers
>Didn’t like the ministerial code so watered it down
>Was reprimanded by 2 ethics advisors so is now considering abolishing the post
The PM wanted to deliberately and purposefully break his own Ministerial code against the wishes of his own ethics advisor who has now resigned as a result.
This PM is out of control.
Breaking: Lord Geidt says he quit because of the government's "intention to consider measures which risk a deliberate and purposeful breach of the ministerial code"
This is an explainer and a half!

6 years ago today, on 16 June 2016, Jo Cox was murdered while on her way to a constituency surgery in Batley and Spen. Those closest to Jo lost a devoted mum, daughter, sister, wife, friend, and colleague. The UK lost a talented parliamentarian, campaigner, and humanitarian.

The full @YvetteCooperMP take-down of the #Rwanda policy, is the most thorough, detailed and florid dismantling of gov't policy I've seen in many years.
Worth watching in full and sharing. Patel reduced to gurning. I won't quote from it, because every line is quotable. ~AA
Good thread from shadow Home Secretary @YvetteCooperMP on Rwanda debacle
By pushing ahead with Rwanda policy, Boris Johnson has abandoned British values of common sense & decency - it’s unworkable, unethical, extortionately expensive & risks making smuggling & trafficking worse.
Govt has ended up targeting torture victims instead of trafficking gangs
The best the Indy camp can offer is to throw up enough smoke to confuse. That’s all they have after decades with the real answers to the key questions too unpalatable to publish eg the FM admitting there would be a good border with England. And this from a key ally.
“Sturgeon hopes to slip out a series of apologias over the next few months to muddy rather than clarify the case for independence.” - @iainmacwhirter in @heraldscotland
The jig is surely up when former allies are denouncing Sturgeon in these terms.

On the day the SNP and Greens launch another campaign for independence they vote against a bill to extend free school meals and make sure everyone has food. I didn’t see that comparison in their cherry picked scene setter analysis.
Well, that’s the SNP and Greens just voted against enshrining the right to food in law, and against extending free school meals.
Sorry, sorry state of affairs.
And the government was warned from every quarter that their policy was illegal. They shouldn’t be surprised the law has prevented it from happening.
There is no point in Govt blaming anyone else but themselves.
Ministers are pursuing a policy they know isn’t workable & that won’t tackle criminal gangs.
But they still paid Rwanda £120m & hired a jet that hasn’t taken off because they just want a row & someone else to blame.

The FM has just announced the potential for an illegal referendum.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says a way forward to a Scottish independence vote should be found with or without the backing of Westminster

The PM isn’t just content breaking his own domestic laws but now wants to up the ante and break international law. He’s a serial criminal.
The ‘NI bill’ being published tomorrow has the potential for malicious and rogue governments to interpret it as a green light for unilateral action against international treaties.
It’s a dangerous move.

And as the public worry about paying their bills.
Boris Johnson has everyone talking about Rwanda instead of his catastrophic record in government, and Nicola Sturgeon has everyone talking about a second independence referendum instead of her catastrophic record in government. Take off your blinkers, it's the same damn thing.

Clip the wings of independent government audit and scrutiny. Wonder why?
We also report today how senior SNP figures have spoken about “clipping the wings” of Audit Scotland after its reports in recent years caused major discomfort for ministers over shortcomings on NHS, education and recently the ferries procurement fiasco
Really good to meet you and the team too. Keep up the great work you are all doing.
Really lovely seeing such a good turn out at our AGM for Valley Park Community Centre. Lovely to meet Ian Murray and wonderful that he was able to assist and visit the centre today. A very successful meeting 😊 #agm #community #makingithappen

At #PMQs Boris Johnson said "we're cutting taxes", citing a £330 cut for National Insurance payers
But this is smaller than the government's previously announced tax rises and the overall tax burden is set to be highest since the 1940s

I’ve written to the prime minister.
Until the Scottish government takes its head out of the sand it will not get better. There are options for new practices but it’s painfully slow and I get the impression there’s not the clinical teams to staff them.
@IanMurrayMP Really hope it gets sorted soon Ian, it's really frustrating. Every time I, my wife or our daughter are sick, phoning our GP is like trying to buy concert tickets
It’s something I’ve been working on for some time but the Scottish Health secretary shrugs his shoulders and claims there are no problems. Only 3 of 14 GP practices taking on patients and only 1 in Lib/Gil ward. Huge crisis with GPs under extreme pressures and need support.
South Edinburgh medical services are getting more difficult to use. Tried my local medical service - if you don’t manage to ring through between 8 and 8.30am tough. I then try 111 - at this time of day use your local doctor. @IanMurrayMP
