Dominic Raab won’t approve but I did indeed go the opera last week (it cost me £62).

Tom Eisner, a working-class lad from Buxton near where I grew up kindly invited me. He’s been playing violin at Glyndebourne for 36 years.

Never let anyone tell you you’re not good enough. 🎻

The Covid-19 pandemic has had devastating impacts for children

Now the data shows that the government’s failure to deliver an ambitious recovery plan for our children is holding them back

We need urgent action to get support to all children who need it

Labour’s commitment to NATO is unshakable. As the Madrid Summit for NATO’s next Strategic Concept begins today, we need this 10 year plan to spell out how the Alliance will respond to increasing threats to our security – a thread 👇

Careers advice opens doors for young people, especially raising the profile of apprenticeships.

Under Labour every child will receive professional careers advice and work experience at school, ensuring they leave education ready for work and for life.

Under the Tories, people are being forced to wait months for passports, GP appointments, A&E treatment and court trials. And summer travel plans are being disrupted.

Labour will tackle Boris Johnson’s backlogs by building a stronger, more secure economy.

Today I called for the Chancellor to pay at least the real living wage for all those who work for government - including contractors.

He refused.

The Tories are choosing to trap people in poverty pay as the cost of living crisis worsens.

Working people deserve so much better.

Great to talk to ⁦@michaeljmarra⁩ about education, Scotland, and the future our children deserve.

The next ⁦⁦@UKLabour⁩ government will come from winning in Scotland as well as England & Wales.

Together, Labour will build a Britain where children come first.

Labour offers a proper plan for change, to get Britain’s economy growing again so businesses and families can reap the rewards.

Our victory in Wakefield shows there's renewed optimism and hope.

Labour is back on the path to government👇🏼

From deployments abroad following the invasion of Ukraine to supporting our country during the COVID pandemic, our armed forces are essential to our national defence as well as our national resilience.
This Armed Forces Day, Labour thanks and backs our armed forces communities.

This is a devastating step backwards for women's rights in the United States.

Every woman who needs one should have the right to a safe and legal abortion.

Solidarity with every woman affected by this cruel decision.

Wakefield’s win will go down in history, @SimonLightwood.

I’m so proud of our Labour Party and the changes we’ve made to be a government in waiting.

The Education Secretary is treating children’s learning as a political battlefield.

No-one wants strikes and no-one wants more disruption to our children’s education.

A short thread 🧵

A great result after a great campaign.

Congratulations to @simonlightwood, Labour MP for Wakefield.

Across Britain, Labour is heading back to government.

I'm so proud of the incredible support that you have all given me throughout this campaign. Thank you.

Polls are open until 10pm tonight. May sure you cast your vote.

Great reception out on the #labourdoorstep today for @simonlightwood - managed to squeeze in a quick ice cream break too!🍦Six hours till polls close #votelabour

If you’ve had enough of waiting months for a passport, having your travel plans disrupted or waiting months or years for hospital appointments, sign our petition.

Demand an end to Boris Johnson’s Backlog Britain.

Just six weeks ago Ministers feigned outrage at the illegal and unsafe decision to replace P&O workers with agency staff.

Now they’re adopting their playbook.

This senseless plan is a recipe for disaster.

Agencies themselves have said this is unworkable and don’t want it to happen. The Government are willing to ride roughshod over businesses to provoke this dispute rather than act like grown-ups and actually resolve it

Childcare is essential to our economic success.

But under the Tories it’s unaffordable and unavailable: pushing women out of work and pricing people out of parenting.

Labour’s recovery plan would invest in the early years premium & school clubs for all.

Thousands of holiday flights cancelled.
People unable to renew their passports.
Biggest rail strike in a generation.

The Tories simply aren’t doing their job.

Today @nadhimzahawi and I are united in saying we must #SpeakOutAboutBullying

I'm supporting Don't Face It Alone campaign day, as no one should experience bullying.

Today’s strikes are another Tory failure.

The latest in an ongoing series:

The Chancellor is failing to manage soaring prices.
The Energy Secretary is failing to control our bills.
The Home Secretary is failing on passports.
And the Education Secretary is failing our children.

No-one wants strikes this week.

Except, it seems, the Transport Secretary.

Instead of getting round the table to resolve this dispute, he’s spent today touring TV studios blaming other people.

🕰️ There’s less than 24 hours before the rail strike will disrupt the lives of people across the country.

✍️ Sign our petition and tell the Tories to get around the table immediately to avoid the strike.

Everyone knows we need more teachers — physics, maths, English, design & more — so every child can achieve and thrive.

Yet after twelve years, the government is failing to hit its own recruitment targets.

The government is failing our children again.

Fantastic to be back in Wakefield with Labour’s brilliant candidate @SimonLightwood.

This Thursday is Wakefield’s chance for a fresh start.

A chance to send a message to the Tories that they can’t ignore: Wakefield deserves better.

Proud to be working with Carol for a change in the law to protect other families.

It's wrong that those who cause serious injury or even death under the influence of drink/drugs can continue driving for months.

I'll be pushing for change in Parliament.

Britain is home to millions of creative entrepreneurs and start-ups.

But under the Tories, some British businesses are unable to thrive.

The next Labour government will work with businesses to make Britain the best place to start and grow a business.

Great speech by @RachelReevesMP today.

The future Labour will build for Britain will be one where government empowers workers with the skills, healthcare, and childcare they need to flourish.

The idea that schools not only deliver excellent education, but are at the centre of their communities is a powerful one. It speaks to the achievements of Labour in power and the Britain we want to build again. Pleasure to speak @CSTvoice conference this afternoon #TrulyCivic

NHS waiting lists have risen to a new historic high of 6.5 million.

The number of people waiting more than a year for treatment has risen by 16,000.

The longer we give the Tories, the longer patients will wait.

Tens of thousands of rail workers kept our country going during the pandemic.

They and millions of key workers like them want fair pay and respect.

The govt owes it to them and the country to show some responsibility and settle this dispute.

As costs soar, funding of just 7 pence extra a meal is pathetic and will do little to ensure children are getting a healthy, balanced meal. My comment in @DailyMirror👇🏻
