On #NationalNumeracyDay, congratulations to Lawn Primary and Redhill Primary in Mid-Derbyshire for being amongst the best schools in the region for maths in the most recent scores. Maths is a vital part of our lives, so it is important we encourage children to learn maths skills.

An honour to lay a wreath at Ukrainian Remembrance Day in Derbyshire this weekend. From the Holodomor to the World Wars and now to Russia’s illegal invasion, Ukrainians continue to show their resilience and bravery. We must continue to do all we can to support them.

Aortic dissection is a tear in the body's main artery.

Each year it takes the lives of more people than die on our roads.

Greater awareness of the condition can change this.

To build on our work so far, I've announced a new NHS working group to improve diagnosis & treatment👇

(1/2) This afternoon, I presented my Ten Minute Rule Bill, designed to stop child sex abusers at the UK Border. It would make it an offence for a suspect to refuse access to a digital device when there is reasonable suspicion it contains child sex abuse material.

Next week, I will be chairing a session as part of the @wfpevents “Next steps for genomics in England” conference. A fascinating subject on which the UK is a leading light.

Delighted to host my bi-annual Taste of Derbyshire event this week in Parliament, which was well attended as usual. Great to see Mid-Derbyshire producers @BluebellDairy, Patacake, Derbyshire Tea and @WithersGin. Thank you also to @kevinhollinrake for popping in!

It's Mental Health Awareness Week, and it's crucial to recognise the intersectionality of mental health and experiences like Honour Based Abuse. For survivors of Honour Based Abuse, the journey towards healing often involves navigating layers of stigma and shame🗣️💖#MentalHealth

Solar roof panels cut carbon emissions and reduce energy bills. They can also be installed not just in homes but businesses and schools too. National Grid are offering grants of up to £25,000 per school for this – find out more here:

Last year, the Marriage Act which I sponsored through Parliament came into force. However, many do not know how to spot the signs of a forced or arranged marriage. I asked @PennyMordaunt this week about how we can make progress: https://fb.watch/rQqeK4IIk5/

*TODAY IS POLLING DAY*

The first regional Mayor election takes place TODAY on Thursday May 2nd.

If we get it right, it's an opportunity to fix our roads, improve local transport, and bring in major new investment for jobs training and high street regeneration.

However there…

Derby is the home of 🇬🇧 nuclear propulsion production for our submarines, supporting global stability.

Defence Minister @jcartlidgemp today visited the @RollsRoyce Raynesway site, speaking to engineers and viewing reactor components for future Dreadnought and #AUKUS submarines.

Last Thursday was World Malaria Day. I wrote a piece for @ConHome about my work as a member of the International Development Committee on this issue, as well as some reflections on my work as Mid-Derbyshire’s MP. You can read it here:

Not only will this £75 billion keep Britain safe, it will also guarantee our long term support for Ukraine.

Which is how we’ve today announced the largest ever military donation and an extra £500 million to help Ukraine defeat Putin.

Very pleased to vote in favour of the Football Governance Bill this week. In the past, Derby County fans were let down by poor governance. This Bill will prevent such situations from ever happening again.

A pleasure to sponsor the @railforum_uk 2024 Parliamentary Reception for the fourteenth (and final!) time. Rail is crucial to Derbyshire’s success and the Rail Forum continues to do great work in this area.
