We should report harmful things online, and children should also be shown how to do this. However, the social media platforms must also be proactive in indentifying, mitigating & not promoting harmful content, as defined by the Online Safety Bill.
More children must blow the whistle on harmful content online, says Ofcom in its first campaign as the incoming regulator of social media firms. @telegraph https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/06/26/children-urged-blow-whistle-harmful-online-content/

The idea that the status quo can continue is wrong.
The Government's "Up Next" White Paper is a sensible and serious look at real issues that exist in the TV sector. It provides the foundation for #Channel4 to have a radical reset in its role, rather than wither on the vine 🥀
The challenges to the TV sector are very real, and #Channel4 is particularly vulnerable. It is no wonder that they themselves are proposing significant changes to their remit.
📺📉Between 2006-2019 first-run original content spending declined 15% & broadcast time by 27%.
Important investigation here into the serious failure of content moderation on Facebook in east Africa. The company outsources this work but ultimately they are responsible for what happens on their platform. https://apnews.com/article/islamic-state-group-2022-midterm-elections-technology-politics-religion-1031f90a8956eb3feb6c6fb5283003f9

This is why we need an independent regulator for English professional football. A great club stands on the brink of expulsion from the football league. No-one seems to know what to do and the whole situation could have been avoided with proper financial oversight #dcfc
Following confirmation from the Administrators at Derby County that the transaction with Chris Kirchner has not progressed, the EFL calls on Quantuma to clarify how they plan to take the Club out of administration.
I am glad to hear that @SteveBarclay agrees with me that disinformation campaigns from hostile foreign states pose a #cybersecurity threat, and that the National Security Bill & Online Safety Bill will address this vital issue. 📡
Hugely looking forward to our upcoming roundtable with @damiancollins on keeping women and girls safe online

The @thetimes of London asked me share my thoughts on Sheryl Sandberg’s resignation. No amount of philanthropy can offset the harm from her tenure, but helping policy makers and courts reform tech would be a start. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/sheryl-sandberg-knew-the-damage-facebook-was-causing-and-did-nothing-qfcf2pjp8

Some have questioned whether it’s possible to legislate nationally for content shared on platforms based in other countries.
The answer is yes: other countries have done so already. Germany and France have specific national laws.

Hugely important moment from Jake Daniels who is an inspiration and role model to the whole of football. Everyone should feel that they have the support to be themselves and Jake has made it easier for others to do just that. 📻 Yesterday I joined @Sarah_Montague on @BBCRadio4 to discuss the new @DCMS Broadcasting White Paper ⏯️
@frasernelson - important to set the record straight. The basis of your article is wrong in four key ways:
1. Nothing in the Bill requires companies to remove legal free speech. Our aim is to make tech firms protect their users and kids and uphold their own T&Cs https://twitter.com/FraserNelson/status/1519604180192837632
Elon Musk’s first battle with the censors could come in Britain, not the US, due to the “Online Safety Bill”
My take:-
https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/can-elon-musk-take-on-the-tech-censors
@iankatz1000 @BBCWorldatOne here are the figures from the most recent Channel 4 annual report, however the wider point I was making was that there has been a siginifcant fall in investment in first fun original content across the PSBs since 2010, and linear TV revenue declined 31% in the sector from 2015-20
The new Video-on-Demand Code from @Ofcom will be very welcome. It’s time streaming services are held the the same standards as TV channels 📺
New proposals to protect and support the nation's public service broadcasters 📺
We want to:
▶️ ensure PSBs are carried prominently across online platforms
▶️ introduce greater fairness in rules between video-on-demand platforms and traditional broadcasters
