I warmly welcome the election of Cardinal Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV and look forward to his leadership of humility, grace and respect. I know the Catholic community in Scotland and around the world will be joyful tonight.

We welcome Pope Leo XIV with open arms.

May his papacy be guided by love, compassion and a deep commitment to peace and justice for people and planet.

Together, we ask God to give Pope Leo XIV the strength he needs to make the world a better place in his new role.

The swing states are too close to call, but it looks like @thesnp is cleaning up everywhere else 🇺🇸 #TheOldOnesAreTheBest #EveryTime #USElection2024

Who knows what will happen tomorrow, but tonight #Link and the Light Dragon destroyed #Ganon the Demon King, freed Princess #Zelda and restored peace to #Hyrule #TotK #USElection2024

My family holds this country close to our hearts. I was shot and nearly killed serving the people of Arizona. So I ask my fellow patriots to reject Trump’s calls for violence and retribution. Let’s elect @KamalaHarris and put this dark chapter behind us once and for all.

For some reason, I have been thinking about this moment a lot today.

It's from John McCain in 2008 at a town hall.

The woman begins to espouse conspiracy theories about Barack Obama's nationality.

He immediately shuts it down.

"No ma'am. He's a decent family man."

Great to join @SNPKelvin and @theSNP campaigners tonight in Partick ahead of the Partick East/Kelvindale by-election on 5 December. Cylina Porch is a fantastic candidate who will work to build on the tireless efforts of the late SNP Cllr Kenny McLean.

📢 We are absolutely thrilled to announce our candidate for the Partick/East Kelvindale by-election is Cylina Porch!

Polling Day for this by-election is Thursday 5th December 🗳️

Said farewell today to Cllr Kenny McLean - a kind, passionate, stalwart. He loved representing Patrick and he loved Scotland. He gave so much to @theSNP and the cause of Scottish Independence. Rest in peace Kenny.

"My journey to the SNP began when I first saw my right hon. Friend the Member for Gordon (Alex Salmond)—he represented Banff and Buchan at the time—at a conference as part of a school trip...."

Requiem æternam dona ei, Domine

Very sad news to hear the death of former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond. Catholics rightfully will remember the way he graciously welcomed Pope Benedict to Scotland in 2010. His warm welcome set the tone for the rest of the UK visit. God rest him.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Alex Salmond, former leader of the SNP and First Minister of Scotland, has died. His leadership brought the SNP into the mainstream and the Scottish Government. He was a titan of the independence movement. Our thoughts are with Moira and his family.

First Minister @JohnSwinney met with Bishop Hugh Gilbert of the Catholic Church of Scotland today.

They discussed the importance of cohesive communities to Scotland and the way that @scotgov is supporting faith groups across Scotland.

This Friday - from 12pm to 2pm- I am hosting a Cost of Living advice event at Springburn shopping centre. I have arranged for various advice agencies and organisations to be in attendance.
All welcome.

Best wishes, Bob.

Marking the 60th anniversary year of Malawian independence, First Minister @JohnSwinney attended an event with @ScotlandMalawi.

Supported by @ScotGov, the partnership works tirelessly to build connections with Malawi - helping to transform communities and change lives.

🔎 @JohnSwinney and @StephenFlynnSNP warned repeatedly in the election that Labour’s plans could mean £18bn of cuts to public services.

🥀 Now they’re in government, Labour are preparing to “reveal” the £20bn black hole in their budget.

🙉 Labour can’t say they weren’t warned.

I found this while clearing out the office. Thoroughly depressing that it remains as true under a UK Labour Government as a UK Conservative Government.

Very grateful to the 102 parliamentary colleagues who backed the SNP amendment tonight.

I’m told that no Labour MPs from Scotland were in that number.

With thanks to @CommonsSpeaker, there will be a vote tonight on the SNP amendment calling for an end to the two-child benefit cap.

We have gained cross-party support in our efforts to lift children out of poverty and I hope that all MPs from Scotland will vote with us tonight.

Congrats to everyone involved in @breaking_strain #RunTheBlades at @Visit_Whitelee this weekend - spectacular course even with the challenge of #ThatHill…

July 20th, 1969 is a date that stands high in my life – it was the day that we, together as one people, achieved the greatest scientific and technological feat in human history. The specific role that Neil, Mike and I performed in the event was but one part of an immeasurably… https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1814599484485099998

The Merry Wives of #Wishaw… fantastic production @bardbotanics - congrats to cast & crew on a brilliant performance (& equally fab company @alisonthewliss @marionfellows) #herinfinitevariety

Mmmm....the Kings Speech is not legislation, it's a Speech about legislation, and there are no votes on it tomorrow - those will come on the last two days of the debate on the Speech next week, but apart from that...

📑 The SNP has been calling for the two-child cap to be scrapped since the Tories introduced it in 2017.

📣 Now we call on Labour to bin it, and lift hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty.

🥀 Starmer says he won’t - but this is one U-turn Scotland would support.

If Labour fail to act on abolishing the poverty inducing child benefit cap this week then the SNP will seek to force a vote in the Commons.

It’s the bare minimum we should expect from a Labour Government, and we’ll hold them to account until they act.

"Abolishing the two-child limit is the most cost-effective way to reduce child poverty, and the most urgent action the government must take to reduce child poverty."

Labour must stop the prevarication and game playing - scrap the two-child limit now.

Congratulations to Sir @EdwardLeighGB who takes up his seat as Father of the @HouseofCommons today. It was an honour and privilege to be granted an audience with Sir Edward during a visit to Rome several years ago.

On Friday Hamish MacQueen passed away. Hamish (96) made an immense contribution 2 @theSNP & our independence movement. He was @Maryhill_SNP honorary president for many years & a massive support to me when I joined Maryhill in 1999. I have so much to thank Hamish for. God bless 💔

I am so sorry to hear this news. Hamish McQueen made a phenomenal contribution to our cause and commanded the greatest of respect across our Party. My sympathy to his family and to his many friends across @theSNP

Today #Malawi 🇲🇼, the #WarmHeartOfAfrica & very close to my own heart, celebrates 60 years of independence.

An unbelievably tough night for @theSNP, but I am so proud of our team and the campaign we fought.

It has been an honour and a pleasure to serve the people of Glasgow Central for nine years and of the Calton ward as a Councillor for the eight years before that. Thank you.
