I was honoured to host a @UKLabour reception for Black, Asian and minority ethnic business leaders yesterday.

We were joined by inspiring leaders and entrepreneurs to celebrate their success.

Thanks to speakers @RachelReevesMP, @vaughangething, @Moslek_Uddin, and Serlina Boyd

3 years ago today Richard was on hunger strike. He should never have needed to campaign to @FreeNazanin but he did & he never gave up. So happy he has been awarded Campaigner of the Year in Civility in Politics. Such an inspirational family who give so much hope to so many 🙏🏻

The brilliant Abena Oppong Asare ⁦@abenaopp⁩ speaking last night at Labour’s business reception for ethnic minority owned businesses. Inspiring stories of start ups, enterprise, success and growth.

The Conservatives are soft on rape, soft on rapists and they don’t like to face the fact that they’re letting sex offenders off and letting survivors down. No-one is going to stop me from standing up for victims. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jun/30/minister-complains-speaker-labour-remarks-convictions?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

The most disturbing, sexist part of today's #PMQs.

First Dominic Raab WINKS at @AngelaRayner.

Then he intimates it's absurd for a working class woman to enjoy opera and drink champagne.

If you think Raab is better than Johnson, just watch this. #PMQs

Series of meetings in London today talking about what @WelshLabour is doing in government to support the economy. Finished with an inspiring evening with black asian & minority ethnic entrepreneurs.

A pleasure to attend the Labour Party Business Reception,celebrating Ethnic Minority Leaders in Business. Hosted by @RachelReevesMP with @abenaopp @AngelaRayner @TulipSiddiq @DavidLammy @jamesmurray_ldn @RajeshAgrawal @LordRoyKennedy @SME4LABOUR @SonnyLeong53 #SmallBusinesses

What a wonderful evening meeting Black, Asian and ethnic minority businesses at our @UKLabour reception tonight.

Inspiring entrepreneurs, brilliant businesses and industry leaders like these are shaping the future of the landscape with their formidable talent.

“Zara believed that a woman should be able to walk home.”

Please, take the time to read every word of this tribute to Zara Aleena by her family. I’m not sure I’ve read anything quite like it before.

Everyone has their own story for seeking out this medical procedure and I empathize with anyone who’s been faced with this impossible decision. I am praying for all of us, that we can get through this challenging time and regain agency over our own bodies.

One of the worst days of my life was when I made the choice to terminate a pregnancy in the second trimester. The devastating truth is that we found out the fetus would not survive to full term, and that my life was at risk as well. At the time - I had the choice.

It's important that the Home Secretary @pritipatel understands our feelings, as the London PLP, following the news that the Met Police Service have been put into special measures.

Our letter, co-signed by fellow London Labour MPs, with 3 hours notice.

Will no doubt add more.👇🏾

Rape prosecutions are still at near record lows & court backlogs are still at near record highs.

Three years on from recognising their failure, the Tories haven’t done nearly enough.

Labour’s plan would drive up prosecutions & restore victims’ confidence in our justice system.

Thank you @TulipSiddiq
for the support on the #footballindex scandal. 🙏🙏🙏

The fight will always go on until justice is done….#footballindex

The Government has totally failed to deal with hostage taking by states like Iran.

It's astonishing that the Foreign Secretary can't even say how many British citizens are being held hostage abroad.

NEW Forget Tories defecting to Labour! A more significant battle will start tomorrow in a parliamentary committee room as the privileges committee starts to investigate whether the PM lied to Parliament over #partygate

Good question from @jamesmurray_ldn at Treasury Questions.

The Government must ensure that the UK Infrastructure Bank supports well-paid jobs in every part of the country.

The Chancellor has completely failed to answer @patmcfaddenmp's question at Treasury Questions.

Why is the UK predicted to have lower growth than any country in the G20 other than Russia?

The Conservatives' economic model of low growth and high taxes isn't working.

Great point from @abenaopp at Treasury Questions - the Conservatives have already taken Labour's policy on a windfall tax to reduce energy bills for British families.

They now need to follow our lead again and cut buisness rates for SMEs to support them through the crisis.

I spoke to @GMB today about how the Tories are presiding over some of the worst backlogs on record.

They should be sorting out NHS delays, the chaos at airports and getting around the table with workers to avoid the rail strikes. Instead, Ministers haven't lifted a finger.

On @SkyNews this morning, I called out the Government for breaking their pledge to introduce 5,000 new GPs.

Instead they have cut 4,500 GPs and over 300 GP practices have closed on their watch, causing massive NHS backlogs.

The Government needs to get a grip.

I was on @GMB and @SkyNews this morning to discuss Backlog Britain.

With delays on everything from driving licences to NHS waiting times, this Government has lost its grip.

The Conservatives need to stop focusing on the campaign to save Boris Johnson and get on with governing.

Under the Conservatives, the money stolen from hard working families and businesses through fraud has hit a record high.

This is hitting people in the middle of a deepening cost-of-living crisis.

The Government can't keep ignoring the problem. It's time for action.

Overturning Roe and outlawing abortions will never make them go away.

It only makes them more dangerous, especially for the poor + marginalized.

People will die because of this decision. And we will never stop until abortion rights are restored in the United States of America.

So proud of Wakefield’s new MP, the fantastic @simonlightwood.

This was @UKLabour’s biggest victory here since we were last in government.

This decisive result shows Labour is winning the trust of the British people, and firmly on the path to power.

Congratulations @simonlightwood!

You’re going to be a fantastic MP.

So proud that Wakefield will have the fresh start it deserves with a Labour MP.

A huge well done to all of those who campaigned so hard to make it happen.

Very pleased to speak to members and activists from @NorthandLeithLP tonight. Thank you Dan for inviting me! @dcoleman85 ⁦@ScottishLabour⁩

"If we were in government, that’s something we wouldn’t do."

Labour would not have introduced a hike in National Insurance contributions, Siddiq says, criticising the government at the end of her opening remarks.

🗣 @TulipSiddiq: "Constituents come to me and say they’re choosing between eating or heating."

Economic strain has pushed families in her constituency of Hampstead and Kilburn, and across the country, to make tough decisions, says Shadow Economic Secretary Tulip Siddiq MP

👋Hello from London's County Hall!

🧵THREAD👇

MP Tulip Siddiq had been pushing the government to help her constituents trying to rescue Ukrainian children only to be met with "bureaucracy". https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/ukrainian-refugee-children-allowed-to-come-to-britain-unaccompanied_uk_62b2cb6de4b0cf43c85db6a5?d_id=4033612&ncid_tag=tweetlnkukhpmg00000008&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter&utm_campaign=uk_politics

Thank you @HuffPost for writing up my debate today on Ukrainian child refugees.

I’m cautiously optimistic about the policy change the Minister announced in response, but we need more details to ensure this will actually help the families I‘m supporting.
