The Govt has finally confirmed that Davenport station will have step-free access by July 2023, but this isn’t soon enough.
My thanks to everyone who campaigned for this, but particularly @saysnathaniel for his work on this issue 🚉

Today marks 50 years since the first UK Pride. Members of the LGBT+ community who marched through London faced hostility and backlash.
But they persevered and today we celebrate and remember the groundbreaking work of LGBT+ activists over the past 50 years. 🏳️🌈

Good to meet with @MarkLClifford this week to discuss the work of the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong are doing to stand up for the rights of the people.
Looking forward to working with him further to raise awareness about this important issue.
I am so PROUD to share the front page of Friday’s @theipaper.
On the 50th anniversary of Britain’s first pride march, every living UK Prime Minister has written about their support for LGBT rights. Including Theresa May, who urges the govt to ban all conversion therapy.
Congratulations to @Liambroady, who has made the third round of a grand slam for the first time.
Good to see a Stopfordian succeed! 🎾 🏆
Join a Union. You’re going to need one. You can thank me later.
There has been a steep decline in the numbers taking GCSE Gujarati, in the last 10 years. To support trade with India, & help young people’s wider learning, Ministers ought to offer support to the Saturday schools & teachers supporting the teaching of languages such as Gujarati.
Honored to meet Navendu Mishra, @NavPMishra and glad to have discussed #xinjiang, #tibet, and #hongkong. Looking forward to working together.
That’ll be your money he’s been burning through ✈️

Rumour has it Matt Hancock is gunning for the job of Conservative Chairman, responsible for running the Tory's election campaigns.
On behalf of the whole Labour Party, we hope Matt gets this job and applies his trademark competence and administrative skills to the role.
Dominic Raab won’t approve but I did indeed go the opera last week (it cost me £62).
Tom Eisner, a working-class lad from Buxton near where I grew up kindly invited me. He’s been playing violin at Glyndebourne for 36 years.
Never let anyone tell you you’re not good enough. 🎻
Following Putin's illegal and brutal invasion of Ukraine, the UK stands united in bolstering NATO nations on our Eastern Flank.

Free Tibet is outside the British Security Awards handing out leaflets about the genocide-funding company @HIKVISIONUK.
Hikvision won't see this because they dropped out of the event & blocked us on Twitter but perhaps if enough people send it to them they might pay attention.
Tonight at St Peter's Square from 7pm, @StockportMBC & the Stockport Ukrainian Club have organised a vigil to stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
Please do join them to send a unified message of support #WeStandWithUkraine
We are so sad to hear that Deborah James has died, and our thoughts are with her family and many friends 💚
Deb has been an inspiration to us all. We're so grateful for all of her generous support over the years, and her dedication to stand together with people with cancer.
Stockport Council has seen almost 1/3rd of its settlement funding reduce since 2015/16.
Now, in a #CostOfLivingCrisis, the Govt is unable to specify how much additional support it has provided to my local council in order to address the increased cost of energy.
Disgraceful.

I am really looking forward to working with him in the months and years ahead 🌹

Excl: More reports of patients pulling own teeth out as just 2.3m NHS dental appointments now take place a month, down from 3.5m pre-pandemic.
Data obtained by @TheBDA also shows drop from 2.9m in March, suggesting more dentists going private for 2022/23

Heartbreaking to read about workers being unable to afford to shop in the supermarket they're employed at.
The #CostOfLivingCrisis is pushing millions into hardship as the incompetent Conservative Govt mismanages our economy.

Today, on #ArmedForcesDay we thank our Armed Forces for keeping us safe and for their service on the front line.
A Labour government would make sure our veterans get a better deal with fair access to the housing and the services they deserve.
This is what institutional racism looks like. Thanks to @SarahChampionMP and @NavPMishra for calling it out. https://twitter.com/SarahChampionMP/status/1540755037059547138

Today is #ArmedForcesDay. I am grateful to the Stockport Normandy Veterans Legacy for inviting me to their History Remembered event. I met many inspirational people including Mr Arthur Huddleston who is a British Army veteran. The music by the Middleton Band was exceptional too.

🧵I just want to say thank you.
Thank you for putting your trust in me to be your Member of Parliament.
This has been a historic result for Wakefield and for Labour, with a swing not seen for Labour since we were last in Government.
Looking forward to marking @ArmedForcesDay in my constituency tomorrow, with a visit to Stockport Normandy Veterans Legacy.
#ArmedForcesDay is an opportunity for us all to pay tribute to all those who defend and support our communities at home and abroad.

In 2014 we celebrated the eradication of Polio in India. In Parliament we also called for more work on the global eradication. The new news shows we can't stand still, global health is ever changing.

Dr Devi Sridhar believes a person who has been vaccinated abroad with a live polio vaccine has visited the UK and has spread it to others, as live vaccines can spread the virus.
In Britain we use an inactive vaccine so it isn't live.

The £1m Windrush statue was built without even consulting the Windrush community.
With the hostile environment still in place and thousands of victims awaiting compensation, this is just a monument to the Government's ongoing failure to acknowledge and act on their trauma.

Quite the exchange in Bill committee 👀🍆📷
But the point remains that the new (and welcome) Cyber flashing offence in the Online Safety Bill will only bring true, meaningful change if it’s based on consent rather than intent.
The Bill MUST go further to protect women & girls! https://twitter.com/hoffman_noa/status/1539901454814793730
Unsure if tech minister Chris Philp expected to be asked if he's ever received a "dick pic" during the online safety bill debate yesterday, but the exchange with @AlexDaviesJones is now immortalised in Hansard
The scale of the #CostOfLiving crisis is shocking.
Research by the @The_TUC shows the current drop in earnings is the longest since the Napoleonic Wars 200 years ago, which took a quarter of a century for real wages to recover from.
The Govt must act.
