Instead of trying to resolve the rail dispute the Tories are using it as another excuse to attack trade unions my piece for @LabourList https://labourlist.org/2022/06/breaking-strikes-using-agency-workers-is-recklessly-gambling-with-public-safety/

Warmest congratulations to my great friend and colleague @AndrewHWestern selected this afternoon as the prospective parliamentary candidate for #stretford & #urmston. Many thanks to excellent runners up @icreativeiram and @Joanne13Harding for their passionate campaigns

From deployments abroad in response to the war in Ukraine, to deployments at home during the pandemic, our Armed Forces are essential to our defences & resilience. On #ArmedForcesDay, I'd like to thank the Armed Forces communities in #Stretford & #Urmston for everything they do.

It's Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month. There is so much to learn about the rich histories and cultures of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people in the UK.

The Windrush generation helped build Britain.

But the Tories' hostile environment left many homeless, jobless and without healthcare. Victims are still waiting for the justice and compensation they deserve.

Windrush descendent @DavidLammy tells their story. #WindrushDay

"Johnson wants you to think his failing government is handling the economy well. That is yet another lie. The Tories are overseeing a criminal waste of Britainโ€™s potential," @Alison_McGovern writes: https://labourlist.org/2022/06/the-conservatives-are-overseeing-a-criminal-waste-of-britains-potential/

This week is #CervicalScreeningAwarenessWeek! Cervical screening (smear tests) can save lives, but they aren't always easy for everyone. Follow @JoTrust this week to learn more about the test, #CervicalScreeningTips that might make it easier, and where you can find support!

Very proud to be invited to deliver the Margaret Ashton memorial lecture as part of @MancLibraries festival this afternoon. Margaret was a suffragist, pacifist and Manchester's first woman councillor. A privilege to honour the legacy of this remarkable Manchester woman

Always a pleasure to join @ChrLeft and so good to be with them in Manchester today to discuss what drives our politics and why it matters. Thanks for inviting me

Clean air is important to my constituents. It's why I support ambitious climate targets, cycling & walking routes and reducing the use of diesel and petrol cars. I'm proud to show my support for #CleanAirDay today

Thank you @mencap_charity and parliamentary affairs officer @IsmailKaji for coming to parliament today to share your report on loneliness, mental health and covid. Sadly, people with learning disabilities were often more isolated during covid. Family & friends were very important

Shocked to receive a briefing in parliament from @BreastCancerNow showing that #stretford & #urmston constituency misses national targets for breast cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment. I'll be asking NHS managers what action they're taking to address this #NoTimeToWaste

Fancy a chat? ๐Ÿ“ž

This #LonelinessAwarenessWeek, why not check in with a family member or friend to help them feel less lonely - it could help lift you up too.

It has been five years since 72 people were killed by a fire at Grenfell Tower.

The appalling tragedy is evidence of the unequal society we live in under this Tory government.

Today we remember the victims and demand action to ensure a similar tragedy can never happen again.

Iโ€™m calling on the government to ratify the #IstanbulConvention without reservations to protect ALL women from violence. They must not cut off migrant women from this lifeline. #AllWomenMeansAllWomen

Delighted to confirm Iโ€™ve been shortlisted in the Stretford and Urmston selection. Really looking forward to talking to members in the coming days ahead of the hustings on the 26th June!

So proud to see Anoushka from @StretfordPHall in parliament today to speak to @right_hereuk about how the Friends acquired the Hall for the community, and the national campaign for community power

Soaring childcare costs are piling pressure on families.

Kids are being priced out of early learning and parents out of working.

Yet the Tories have no plan.

Our Recovery Plan would keep costs down with investment in early years & school clubs for all.

NEW: GDP figures show UK economy shrank by 0.3% in April.

Really worrying.

Instead of addressing structural weaknesses, all the Tories have are sticking plasters.

Labour will create a stronger, more secure economy - by boosting our energy, supply chain and business security.

Worrying to see attacks on our universities and govt free speech proposals, are based on something the Minister canโ€™t evidence but โ€˜believesโ€™ to be true.

Public policy should be based on evidence, not anecdotes.

Universities and students deserve better.

Very informative visit to Calais today with @RAMPproject to see and hear firsthand about the desperate living conditions and dangerous journeys of asylum seekers trying to reach the UK. Many useful ideas discussed which could save lives. Special thanks @Care4Calais @phdumont

Really wonderful evening @WatersideArts for the launch of @StoriesOfCare1's 'Tales of the Bold, the Brave and the Beautiful'. Stunning writing, loved the readings, the audience was totally engaged. Thank you - I can't wait to see more of your work

Delighted to be invited to #Partington #platinumjubilee celebration this afternoon, to meet the queen for a day and many good friends. Thank you to Berni, Tracy and all the organisers

Over the last year countless #volunteers have supported our communities in #Stretford & Urmston. It's now time to say thanks! Join me in marking #VolunteersWeek by sharing your local volunteering stories. Here I am with volunteers at the St John's Centre in #OldTrafford.

I've been to @SEALIFEManc to discuss proposed changes to the Standards of Modern Zoo Practice. It was an informative visit & SEA LIFE told me all about their conservation & sustainability work, as well as their education programme. Thanks to Brendan & Amy for showing me around.

The process has started to select the next Labour parliamentary candidate for #Stretford & #Urmston. People have been asking who I'll support. We're fortunate to have a strong set of candidates, but I'm backing @AndrewHWestern

Always interesting and inspiring to catch up with @TeamTBBT. As food prices soar, demand for their affordable groceries will grow. Very useful to hear their ideas for improving the efficiency of supply and distribution arrangements

Just taken my first photo for #FromStretfordWithLove's citizen photographer project. Target - 8 photos in a week to capture the spirit of #stretford.

Really enjoyed this afternoon's #PlatinumJubilee party hosted by the Kingfisher chippy in @StretfordTown this afternoon. Huge thanks to the team for organising and Mr Unsworth who proposed the Loyal Toast

Cllr Judith Lloyd admires the proposals for important proposals for @Longford_Park. The team are opposite the cafe till 4 pm today - come and see what's planned

There are lots of events taking place within the constituency, celebrating The Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Click here to find out what's happening locally, or to add details of any events that you're hosting: https://platinumjubilee.gov.uk/events/

Graat to visit @royalmail #urmston this morning to see the new all-electric fleet of delivery vans. This will make a big contribution to reducing traffic pollution in our area. Thanks to Graham, Lee, Gabs who took me for a drive, and all the team

Very pleased to sign parliament's book of commemoration for the 30th anniversary of the Siege of Sarajevo. I visited Sarajevo in 2016 and was appalled to hear the stories of survivors who described their suffering during the 4-year siege, and of 13,952 people who lost their lives

First the Tories said they couldnโ€™t introduce a windfall tax because producers were the ones struggling.

Then they called it โ€˜Unconservative.โ€™

Now Labour has dragged them kicking and screaming to this obvious solution.

Why has it taken them so long while households suffered?

Two years ago today George Floydโ€™s murder sparked a global movement from Minneapolis to Manchester.

We will not forget him.

Labour will always fight for justice and to eradicate racism.

#BlackLivesMatter

War Graves Week gives us the chance to learn about those in our local community who sacrificed their lives during war. I visited Stretford Cemetery, the largest @CWGC location in my constituency, with 70 memorials. Watch my video to find out why War Graves Week is so important.
