James Murray is MP for Ealing North

What has James Murray been up to today?

James Murray is MP for Ealing North and a member of the Labour party.

Today I called for the Chancellor to pay at least the real living wage for all those who work for government - including contractors.

He refused.

The Tories are choosing to trap people in poverty pay as the cost of living crisis worsens.

Working people deserve so much better.

Instead of trying to resolve the rail dispute the Tories are using it as another excuse to attack trade unions my piece for @LabourList https://labourlist.org/2022/06/breaking-strikes-using-agency-workers-is-recklessly-gambling-with-public-safety/

The Tories now face a credible Labour party: a government-in-waiting with a plan to deliver on the country’s demands.

We will not shy away from that responsibility, duck those challenges or fail to grasp the opportunities our country has.

So proud of Wakefield’s new MP, the fantastic @simonlightwood.

This was @UKLabour’s biggest victory here since we were last in government.

This decisive result shows Labour is winning the trust of the British people, and firmly on the path to power.

Family finances can be more secure.

We don't have to continue with this Tory sticking plaster approach to our economy.

Labour will make our economy stronger and more secure, with our plans to boost
⚡️Energy security
🔗Supply chain security
🛍 Business security

Under this Prime Minister, we are the only G7 economy to raise taxes on working people during the cost of living crisis.

With the Tories rudderless and confused, we offer them five more of our tax plans they could adopt alongside the windfall tax.

Very glad to join FCA workers with my Shadow Treasury colleague Tulip Siddiq on the picket line today.

The FCA does not yet recognise a trade union - we fully support efforts by the workforce to change their mind.

The Chancellor’s tax giveaway to oil and gas producers undermines his windfall tax u-turn.

His chaotic and incoherent package incentivises investment in fossil fuels over renewables - and wastes public money that should be better targeted.

Lots more excellent street parties, local events, and cake over the weekend as we continued to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee across Ealing North! #PlatinumJubilee

Wonderful to speak with my brilliant team to @TheHouseMag about how we work - and how we are the team that will get Britain's economy firing on all cylinders.

Lovely meeting up with people at Jubilee street parties and celebrations across Ealing North over the past few days. Looking forward to those still to come this weekend! #PlatinumJubilee

Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury James Murray says the government needs to "get a grip" on the cost of living crisis.

On the Wakefield doorstep today with ⁦@RachelReevesMP⁩ and ⁦@jamesmurray_ldn⁩ campaigning for ⁦our Labour candidate ⁦@simonlightwood⁩. If elected he will be a Labour MP working to help people through this cost of living crisis. 🌹

My constituent @Dahabaalihussen is a Dutch citizen who moved to the UK as a child, yet was suddenly left unable to work.

It's a big relief her status has finally been granted, but her story shows the huge impact Home Office incompetence & delays can have. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/dahaba-ali-journalist-right-to-work-home-office-b2086386.html

Excellent discussion in Sheffield this week with new South Yorks Mayor Oliver Coppard and local businesses about what the economy across Yorkshire and the Humber needs to grow. My thanks to CBI for organising and Sheffield Hallam Uni for hosting us.

Finally, the Chancellor adopts Labour’s plan for a windfall tax on oil & gas profits to lower bills.

Today's statement is the Tory government all over: out of touch with no plan for the future.

There's no doubt about who is winning the battle of ideas in Britain – it is Labour.

Good it seems the Chancellor is finally being dragged kicking & screaming to a U turn, and four months late adopting Labour’s call for a windfall tax on oil & gas producer profits.

Why has it taken so long?

Why have families had to struggle and worry while he dragged his feet?

"Why on earth has it taken them so long?"

Shadow financial secretary to the Treasury, James Murray, questions why the government is not acting quickly enough to help people through the cost of living crisis.

Our plan for a windfall tax on oil and gas producers' profits would help cut energy bills by up to £600 this year.

People are really struggling right now - it is incredible the Conservatives cannot see this is the right and fair thing to do.

Tonight, every Conservative MP who voted against a windfall tax on oil and gas producer profits, has sent a clear message.

They will not put working people first, and they have no answer on the cost of living crisis.

We’re looking forward to marking World Fairtrade Day with @jamesmurray_ldn @PreetKGillMP and a host of excellent speakers at our event tomorrow. Why do the Chancellor's tax hikes always land on working people?

Why won't he look to those with the broadest shoulders first - like with a one-off windfall tax on oil and producer profits?

And why won't he abolish the outdated and unfair non dom tax status?

Since Labour first called for a windfall tax in January the case has become stronger by the day.

We need an emergency budget to introduce the measures now, and bring relief to families and pensioners hit by the cost of living crisis.

What more evidence do the Tories need?

NEW: Shell profits jump 43% to £7.2 billion.

Another day, another oil and gas producer making billions in profits, and yet another day of the Conservatives refusing a windfall tax to bring down bills.

Today #VoteLabour for a party on your side.

No Tory MP joined us on Sky News's Cost of Living panel this evening. If "buy value brands" is all they can offer, I'm not surprised.

They should follow Labour’s plan for a windfall tax on oil and gas producer profits, to save households up to £600 off energy bills. #VoteLabour

NEW: $6.2bn profits for BP in first three months of this year.

The case for a one-off windfall tax on oil & gas producer profits cannot be ignored.

Yet still the Tories won’t back Labour’s plan to use it to cut energy bills.

On Thursday #voteLabour for a party on your side.

Great to be out campaigning with Barnet Labour this evening for Nita Patel and Josh Tapper in Edgwarebury! #VoteLabour🌹

Rishi Sunak is dangerously out of touch if he thinks struggling families can just use 'household savings' to pay soaring energy bills.

He must know years of squeezed wages have taken their toll on struggling families.

We really need a windfall tax. Now.

Great to join one of the Labour teams campaigning in Northfield today - and thank you Asim Chaudhry @AsimC86 for joining our selfie!

Back out on the #LabourDoorstep in Copley Close with @jamesmurray_ldn & @EalingLabour campaigners today.

A real buzz around the place with lots of pledges of support for our brand new team - myself, @RimaBaaklini & @ilaydanijhar.

Vote Labour on Thursday! 🌹

Conservative ministers have spent years avoiding their fair share of tax.

Now the UK is the only major economy hiking taxes for working people, just as prices soar.

Labour would cut home energy bills by up to £600 and scrap the National Insurance rise.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/javid-offshore-tax-nondom-b2066927.html

With one week to go till the local council elections, great to be out with candidates and volunteers in Pitshanger and Greenford Broadway today! #VoteLabour🌹

NEW: As the Tories hike taxes on working people, it isn’t right that those at the top benefit from outdated non-dom tax perks.

If you make your home in Britain you should pay tax here on all of your income.

That’s why Labour will abolish non-dom status.

A big thank you to Ealing & Hanwell Scouts for inviting me to their excellent parade and St George's Day celebrations in Walpole Park!

The Tories are raising taxes on working people in the middle of cost of living crisis.

It would add insult to injury if the Chancellor, or any other government ministers, were benefiting from overseas tax havens in their personal tax affairs.

Good luck Hanwell Town in this afternoon's away game with Ashford Town! And a special cheer for the supporters who've just set off to walk there to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation 👏

Hanwell Town (Toon) FC @hanwelltownfc

Off we go!
Thanks to @jamesmurray_ldn our local MP for coming to see us off!

Great day out with councillors and candidates in Northolt Mandeville and Pitshanger - thank you to everyone who's already used their postal votes for Labour! ☀️✉️🌹

For our tax system to be effective and trusted, it needs to be built on fairness and consistency.

The Chancellor needs to be open and transparent in the public interest.

There must be no impression that there is one set of rules favouring a few, and another for everyone else.

The Chancellor has big questions to answer.

He must urgently explain how much he has benefited at the same time he was putting taxes up for millions of working families and choosing to leave them £2620 a year worse off. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rishi-sunak-akshata-murthy-non-dom-wife-tax-b2052251.html

As of today, the Chancellor is clobbering working people with higher taxes and at a time many people cannot afford.

The UK is the only G7 country doing this right now.

The Conservatives cannot solve the cost of living crisis - they are the cost of living crisis.

A million people won't get the Chancellor's buy now, pay later loan - but will still have to pay it back.

It tells you all you need to know about how poorly designed the scheme is.

Labour will cut bills with a windfall tax on oil & gas producer profits.
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/rishi-sunak-energy-bill-loan-is-a-scam-say-labour-070635883.html

12 years of Tory incompetence, failure and delay with our energy sector has led to this.

As energy bills soar today, the Chancellor could’ve cut them by up to £600, using a one-off windfall tax on oil and gas producer profits.

But he’d rather leave families paying the price.

Lovely to drop by the Horsenden Grape & Honey Farm vineyard in North Greenford this morning before joining local councillors and candidates knocking on doors in Perivale and Pitshanger ☀️

Hugely honoured to be reselected as Labour & Co-op candidate for Ealing North at the next election.

My heartfelt thanks to all party members, trade unions & affiliates who took part for their unanimous backing.

Proud to come together with them & fight for a Labour Government🌹

The UK lost £11.8 billion through Covid fraud and now the public are paying for it with national insurance rises.

Does Boris Johnson think it's fair that the public pay for Rishi Sunak's mistakes?

@jamesmurray_ldn

Energy bills are soaring, inflation is at its highest in decades. Yet the Tories are choosing to raise taxes on working people.

Tomorrow the Chancellor must halt the National Insurance hike and back our windfall tax to cut the cost of gas and electricity. https://labourlist.org/2022/03/the-conservatives-have-a-choice-and-theyre-choosing-to-tax-working-people/
