Oh dear.

The Secretary of State for Education, Nadhim Zahawi, has ripped up his own plans and is back to the drawing board with his very first piece of primary legislation.

Once again, Tory chaos is failing our children.

Green, clean steelmaking on Teesside - we need less talk and more action.

In Parliament yesterday I called on Ministers to deliver on their promise for green, clean, steelmaking in Teesside and Hartlepool.

Congratulatory press releases and photo-shoots are not enough.

It's time to re-open the DEFRA investigation into dead crustaceans washing up on our shores, leave no stone unturned, and support the local fishing industry.

Pleased to secure a Westminster Hall Debate today to give voice to those affected by the ongoing crustaceans deaths.

Our fishing industry needs a meaningful package of support, not a rehash of already announced pre-die offs money.

I was pleased that the Minister agreed to share all the available information – but I am disappointed she ruled out a compensation package.

The Conservatives are soft on rape, soft on rapists and they don’t like to face the fact that they’re letting sex offenders off and letting survivors down. No-one is going to stop me from standing up for victims. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jun/30/minister-complains-speaker-labour-remarks-convictions?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

This is a major security breach. https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/20244833.teesside-airport-respond-men-damaged-plane/

Channel @5_news asked me what the bus strikes across the north are telling us? I told them:

Bus workers are tired of poverty pay and unsafe conditions 👎

Private bus operators can’t deliver the goods or keep buses on the roads 🚫

That’s why we need public control now 🚌

Under Boris Johnson, Britain is facing some of the worst backlogs in our history.

People are being forced to wait unacceptable lengths of time for passports, driving licences, NHS treatment and court trials.

Labour is calling on the Tories to get a grip and sort out their mess.

Tune into @itvtynetees at 6pm tonight to see our very own Dr. Rosie Baker discussing the importance of summer skin care for our children.
Getting kids into good health habits early on, be it skin care, sensible eating or physical movement, can only benefit them in the long term.

This is an important submission from @nechildpoverty about the government's so called shared prosperity fund. My worry is that the fund falls well short of the European funds it replaces and the kind of work proposed here will be left behind: https://nechildpoverty.org.uk/news/shared-prosperity-fund-must-tackle-rising-child-poverty

The people of Wakefield and Tiverton have sent a clear message to this rotten Government. It’s now time for a Labour Government with a plan to back working families. Instead of showing some humility, the Prime Minister said he wants to desperately cling to power into the 2030s.

Surprised to see the Tory MP for Hartlepool walk out of the steel statement debate after less than half an hour. She didn't bother to take part either.

A 'Flying Circus' indeed. Today's @TheNorthernEcho front sums up the debacle around the organisation of Teesside Airshow laid out in a damning report. After a catalogue of failings and missed warnings it looks like the show will be grounded for good.

Britain’s backlog is a result of a decade of Tory mismanagement and sheer incompetence.

Britain deserves better.

The Tories must get a grip now, stop with their sticking plaster approach and sort out the bottlenecks and delays they’ve caused.

So pleased @ACunninghamMP has raised this issue in the HOC.
If for no other reason, this led to the death of my dog, Twiggy. Minister says 'we may never know for sure' what caused crustacean deaths https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/minister-says-we-never-know-24346361?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar

The Inspectorate is right to demand reform from the Metropolitan Police & to set higher standards for the new Commissioner - something that Labour, the Mayor of London & London residents have been calling for for some time.

There's only 4️⃣ days to go until Stockton Cycling Festival! 🚴‍♀️🤩

This fantastic event not only has lots of fun activities but also has a free family bike ride starting at 1pm on Stockton Riverside 🥳

This Tory government has no plan to achieve its climate targets.

A Labour government would end the dither and delay and act now, with a green energy sprint and a home energy efficiency plan to cut bills and deliver energy sovereignty. 👇

Great to speak at the @TargetOvarian reception today

When more people are aware of Ovarian Cancer symptoms, more lives are saved.

Make sure you're aware of:
💜 Persistent bloated tummy
💜 Always feeling full
💜 Tummy pain
💜 Needing to wee more

#CommunityPayback is an opportunity for criminals to make reparations to the communities & victims they have harmed.

But under the Tories hours have been wiped or completed at home.

Labour's Community & Victim Payback Boards will restore confidence & hold offenders accountable.

Tory Ministers & MPs trying to silence women for pointing out their appalling record on convicting rapists, is as low as it gets.

The only people who should apologise for the failure to prosecute criminals and failure to give victims justice is this Government. #VAWG

This week is #NationalBreastFeedingWeek. Did you know mums who breastfeed have a lower risk of developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, heart disease, stroke, type-2 diabetes, and postpartum depression?

It's time to re-open the DEFRA investigation into dead crustaceans washing up on our shores, leave no stone unturned, and support the local fishing industry.

Pleased to secure a Westminster Hall Debate today to give voice to those affected by the ongoing crustaceans deaths.

Rape prosecutions are still at near record lows & court backlogs are still at near record highs.

Three years on from recognising their failure, the Tories haven’t done nearly enough.

Labour’s plan would drive up prosecutions & restore victims’ confidence in our justice system.

@ACunninghamMP Great news Alex. We have a motion going to council as others in the area. I'm looking forward to catching up on the debate later. Thank you

"What's the last human rights issue that you raised with a gulf state leader?" asks Labour MP Chris Bryant

"I'm just trying to remember my most recent visit, but I can assure you I have raised it," replies Foreign Secretary Liz Truss

Our country urgently needs a change in direction.

Great to sit down with @REWearmouth today to discuss Labour’s serious plan to turn it around.

Thriving industries. World class public services. Strong communities.

Labour will re-energise Britain.

It's never plain sailing for the Synners 😂as we are now looking for a friendly game this Saturday to be played on the back pitches in Stokesley. Officials have already been booked so please drop us a message if you fancy it

@NRFLOfficial @WearsideLeague @theofficialnl

Looking forward to leading a debate on the dead crustaceans washed up on Tees and other NE beaches at 4pm today. I'll be asking the Government to reopen their enquiry into the cause and for help for the local fishing industry.

@laurenhowellss Tell me about it Lauren. But sometimes you need to stay strong against all the odds if you know you're doing the right thing, for the good of others, and not just yourself.

Today I called for the Chancellor to pay at least the real living wage for all those who work for government - including contractors.

He refused.

The Tories are choosing to trap people in poverty pay as the cost of living crisis worsens.

Working people deserve so much better.

Under the Tories, people are being forced to wait months for passports, GP appointments, A&E treatment and court trials. And summer travel plans are being disrupted.

Labour will tackle Boris Johnson’s backlogs by building a stronger, more secure economy.

News on Stockton's cycling festival: https://www.stockton.gov.uk/article/8525/Saddle-up-for-the-Stockton-Cycling-Festival-Here-s-all-you-need-to-know

They never cease to amaze. Since when has demolition equated to levelling up? Look like levelling, plain and simple. No definite plans for new buildings on the site. Houchen’s pledge to bring back steel making to Teesside simply forgotten

Months of waiting for a passport or driving licence.

Travel plans disrupted.

Hospital appointment and court dates delayed.

This is Backlog Britain - and it's the result of 12 years of Tory mismanagement of our economy.

Britain deserves better.
