Lissie Harper has led a brave and inspiring campaign to bring in life sentences for those who kill emergency workers who are doing their duty, in memory of her husband Andrew.

It was a privilege to welcome her in Parliament today as Harper’s Law comes into force.

#HarpersLaw will introduce tougher sentences for those who kill emergency workers in the line of duty, including police officers, prison officers and paramedics.

NOW IN FORCE: A range of measures in the new Borders Act have come into force today.

Giving the UK new powers to tackle people-smugglers, secure our borders and deter dangerous journeys.

I wanted to talk about what was a day full of spectacle at the #Corby Pole Fair - an age old tradition which dates back decades within our community. A huge 'thank you' to Denise Westwood and her team of organisers, who ensured that the 2022 edition will be a tough act to follow!

Today our new laws come into force showing our Beating Crime Plan in action to help cut crime, better protect victims & make streets safer across our country.

✍🏽 Tougher sentencing.
✍🏽 Tackling #VAWG.
✍🏽 Tackling anti-social protests.

Delivering on the people's priorities.

It’s been so heartening to see the outpouring of support and generosity for the #bemorefab appeal from our community here in #CorbyEN. You can find the details of the appeal at the JustGiving page, here: Please help spread the word if you can!

Thank you so much to Chris Grant who has started to make a website for everything too.

Also in attendance was local MP, local @VotePursglove. Tom was impressed with the scale of the event and the enthusiasm of the youngsters taking part.

Thanks for joining us Tom!

Last week was #CervicalScreeningAwarenessWeek. Cervical screening saves lives, preventing up to 7/10 cases of cervical cancer. Almost 1/3 don't attend their screening (smear test) when invited. If you're concerned about the test, there’s lots of support and advice out there.

On Monday, I took part in Home Office Questions. These sessions are a good opportunity for scrutiny of the Government’s plans and I always enjoy laying out the reasoning and, in places, setting the record straight. See the full session:

On Armed Forces day I just want to say thank you to all the men and women serving the UK across the world and to all the veterans who served this country so well in the past. Your professionalism and dedication to duty is an inspiration.

The iconic billboards of Piccadilly Circus have been taken over on #ArmedForcesDay to broadcast messages of thanks from the nation to our Armed Forces. 👏 📸

North Northamptonshire Council is proud to support Armed Forces Day and pay tribute to the women and men who help protect the United Kingdom and those who came before them.

So there is a lot of rubbish being spouted about the PM’s trip to Ukriane. 1. Firstly these trips are organised in total secrecy. Very few, and i mean very few, people know the dates and arrangements. Russia is still launching missile strikes right across Ukriane . 1/5

Really important new support package for sexual offence victims launched today:

Today, we remember all those who lost their lives at Grenfell Tower. We pay tribute to their families and friends who want their loved ones to be remembered not for what happened but what changed. Five years on, there is more to do, but that must be the legacy of Grenfell.

Hi @JeremyClarkson, we’re backing British farming by investing in new technology so that we grow and eat more of our fantastic homegrown produce.

We’re also supporting farmers to unlock the potential of their land and seize new opportunities.

I was honoured to go along to the opening of Glapthorn's new Recreation Ground. This will be a wonderful community hub, facilitating sporting opportunities, & is the product of such a lot of hard work by a number of individuals in the village over several years. Congratulations!

Fuel prices⛽️

I’ve asked the @CMAgovUK to conduct an urgent review of the retail fuel market, as well as a longer-term investigation under the Enterprise Act.

Fuel prices are always quick to go up but slow to come down - let’s see why.

I attended an event @NorthantsPolice on addressing the scourge of modern slavery, along with @PeterBoneUK, & a number of organisations. Modern slavery can happen any time, anywhere - we must all be vigilant in spotting the signs and reporting it. More:
