RIP Dame Deborah. Her exceptional campaign to help those living with cancer won the whole nation’s admiration, and started important conversations about living with the ‘big C’.
She leaves behind an incredible legacy, and my thoughts are with her loved ones.
In 1 year at @DHSCgovuk, we've:
👉🏾Opened 90+ community diagnostic centres delivering 1 million scans to bust Covid backlogs
👉🏾Cut longest waiting times by 2/3rds
👉🏾Launched booster vaccines to live with Covid
👉🏾Progressed our largest ever investment plan for @NHSuk & social care
Language matters. I have made clear that the word ‘woman’ should not be removed from key women’s health pages.
I have been assured that the changes highlighted below, as well as others, are being reversed.
👏🏽 This new CDC in Barnsley town centre will provide quicker access to tests and checks for local patients.
Across the country over 90 CDCs have delivered 1m tests and checks as part of our plan to bust the Covid backlogs.
A new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) run by @barnshospital has officially opened today at @TGWBarnsley!
Over 130,000 diagnostic tests and checks have taken place across the region in CDCs since the rollout began in July last year. 🩺
🇬🇧 is committed to protecting the 🌎 from another pandemic & ensuring we all learn lessons from Covid.
Our £25 million investment will help countries improve their healthcare systems & prepare for challenges caused by outbreaks of infectious diseases.
Great to see innovations like this being pioneered by @CUH_NHS, with their medical students becoming the first in the world to learn with holographic patients as part of simulation training. 👇🏽
Today we’ve published the draft Mental Health Bill which will reform outdated mental health laws.
The Mental Health Bill will improve rights for people:
▶️ with a learning disability & autistic people
▶️ with severe mental illness, including those in the criminal justice system
We can be very proud of UK leadership on this. 🇬🇧🇺🇦
The international community still has much more to do in responding to this brutal ongoing invasion.
⏱ This is good news for patients as we deliver our plan to bust the Covid backlogs
The NHS has reduced 2-year waits by 2/3s since January thanks to our plan to bust the Covid backlogs. 📉
As part of this I announced a new 'right to choose'. The longest waiters must be offered an alternative provider where they can be seen more quickly.
Very encouraging results on two Omicron-adapted vaccine candidates from @pfizer and @BioNTech_Group.
I look forward to seeing further data.
This wasn't an easy story to share - but I hope it persuades you to check in on somebody this weekend.
If you are struggling yourself, please contact @samaritans now. Things will get better for you 🙏🏽
Congratulations to our #Bromsgrove Town Crier for wining the Bromyard Town Crier competition. 🗣🔔
It was a real privilege to present his award and to thank him for his many years service with the NHS.
Great to attend the annual @BromsCourtLeet parade yesterday. A fantastic event that highlights the prestigious history of #Bromsgrove District!

The NHS in England is on track to virtually eliminate 2-yr waits, as part of our plan to bust the Covid backlogs.
2/3s of NHS trusts have either eliminated the number of people waiting 2-yrs for elective treatment or have less than 20 on the list. 👏🏽
Thank YOU for all that you do.
Thank you @sajidjavid for speaking so passionately about suicide prevention from your own devastating experience of loss.
We're pleased that Government is committed to a 10-year suicide prevention plan which puts people with lived experience at its heart 💚 https://twitter.com/sajidjavid/status/1540371287960322050
Around 20 million lives were saved by Covid vaccines globally in the first year of the vaccination programme, a new study shows.
The power of the vaccine is undeniable - if eligible, take up the offer to protect yourself as we live with this virus.
Thank you to all the incredible men and women in our armed forces for all that you do to keep us safe 🙏🏽
It's Armed Forces Day!
Through thick and thin, our Armed Forces perform incredible tasks to support us everyday.

ICYMI @sajidjavid is right - Labour attack an improving NHS in England...but it is worse in Labour-run Wales.
1-in-5 people on a waiting list, 1-in-4 of them for over a year, and 70K waiting over two years - 3 times the number for all of England... and it's getting worse!
Suicide is the biggest cause of death in men under the age of 50.
@SajidJavid met bereaved families @PAPYRUS_tweets to hear their experiences as part of the work to develop a 10-year suicide prevention strategy to reduce the number of people taking their own lives.
I met with bereaved families today at @PAPYRUS_tweets who tragically lost their sons to suicide.
No one should go through this.
I want a new 10 year suicide prevention plan that will make a difference. Share your views so we can make this happen:
I know the devastating impact of suicide after I lost my brother Tariq.
Today I spoke at @PAPYRUS_tweets on actions being taken - from refreshing the suicide prevention plan, better services for the bereaved & tech to understand the causes of suicide.
We must do everything we can to ensure that human hearts never again are allowed to breed such hatred.
It was an honour to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial.
Hospices are so important for children & families at an incredibly difficult time.
@NHSEngland is funding £21m in the children & young people hospice grant & investing up to an additional £5m in match funding to provide care to children closer to home in their final days.
"They help to create positive memories and make moments that matter"
@allontheboard have got what children's hospices do #forthechildren spot on this morning 💜

Labour MPs defied Keir's order to not join the RMT's picket lines. Who will defy him again today?
🚨 TWO WEEKS TO GO 🚨
Have your say on how we can improve the nation’s mental wellbeing and help shape our 10-year mental health plan.

For all his outraged fans’ huffing & puffing, I still haven’t had a proper explanation from @RMTunion boss Mick ‘The Hood’ Lynch as to why his Facebook profile pic (below) is an evil criminal mastermind intent on wrecking people’s lives…
A momentous occasion✍️
I've signed the government's agreement in principle with @moderna_tx to build major vaccine manufacturing and Global R&D Centre in the UK.

First Labour failed to condemn the strikes. Now they're literally on the picket lines backing the chaos.
Tackling the gender health gap is vital to ensure our health and care system works for everyone.

The impact of motor neurone disease (MND) is devastating but there is hope.
This partnership with @lifearc1 backed by £4.25m will drive progress & bring the research community together to rapidly develop new treatments.
Nothing to see here, just a Labour whip joining a picket line as millions of people have their lives disrupted.
When we say these are Labour’s strikes, this is exactly what we mean.
This treacherous government has underfunded & mismanaged our public transport network for more than a decade.
As a proud trade unionist, I stand with all workers on our railway network who are taking industrial action to fight for their jobs & keep passengers safe #RailStrikes
Delighted to announce Henrietta Hughes as my preferred candidate for the first Patient Safety Commissioner.
We committed to introduce this vital new role to champion the voices of patients and improve the safety of medicines and medical devices.

5 years on from this cowardly act of terrorism my thoughts are with the family of Makram Ali and those affected by the Finsbury Park Mosque attack.
Freedom of worship and tolerance for different faiths is fundamental to our values. Terrorists will never change our way of life. https://twitter.com/BBCLondonNews/status/1538416290326491136
