Lots of great ideas in this thread. What bits of Medieval History do you think should be taught in schools?
Hi @holland_tom & @dcsandbrook, I'm hosting a debate on the teaching of Medieval History in Parliament on Monday, what do you and @TheRestHistory listeners think should be taught in our schools, and what is the importance of Medieval history to young people?
This is very good and worth your time.
An essay for @unherd about how Britain isn't America and why it's demented to pretend that "it's coming ... it's going to happen here", and so on. It really isn't.

Congratulations to High Peak Mayor @ojcross93 on the completion of his Big June Prune fundRAZOR for @hospiceuk this morning. A (Bux)ton of hair came off for a great cHAIRity now just for some polish to add some Gloss(op)! You can donate at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ollie93page
My next ‘Your Local with Largan’ is at the @oldhallhope in Hope on Friday, between 6-8pm. This is a chance to chat in a more informal setting, ask any questions/ raise issues, while supporting a brilliant High Peak business. No appointment needed. Just come along & say hello!
Final call to Whaley bridge! This is the last week to have your say in #whaleybridge about the #neighbourhoodplan draft policies Complete the questionnaire at http://www.Vision4whaley.org.uk
Quite a few people asking “where’s the evidence” of antisemitism in High Peak Labour. I’m glad you asked. Let’s take a quick look, shall we?
Former MP and sitting councillor Ruth George is the most noteworthy.

If you’re in need of cheering up on this rainy Monday, watch this video of local bird life around Glossop, put together by the Peak District Moorland Group. Our local moors are teeming with life!
This report is beyond awful. Something very seriously went wrong at Greater Manchester Police.
‘The case of “Sophie” shows how absurd it is that police forces are largely the only ones allowed to investigate themselves.’

Ah yes, all these claims of antisemitism in High Peak Labour are “lies” says the High Peak Labour supporter accusing me of being in the pay of Israel…
@LarganPr @robertlargan You missed out the thieves, sexists, misogynists, hypocrites, incompetents, sex offenders, homophobes, delusional....
And although you said it, LIES more than merits another mention.
Anybody would think that he received benefits from an apartheid state, Israel.
A few people suggesting my name on this thread. To be very clear, there is no way I could join High Peak Labour Party, which is still riddled with antisemites!
Who do we reckon the Tory MPs most likely to defect might be? Rumours been around for ages but picking up again now.
Thanks to everyone in sunny Fairfield in Buxton who took the time to chat on the doorstep this afternoon. Lots of people concerned about roadworks and antisocial behaviour on Fairfield Road. Finishing with a quick drink at The 19th Hole!
Good luck to everyone taking part in the New Mills Duck Race this afternoon!
I’ve been attacked for lots of things. But being criticised for organising a local Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair and making it non-political is a new one to me! 🤷🏻♂️
It’s almost like @robertlargan is embarrassed to be @Conservatives #HighPeak #TorySleaze #Liars #hypocrite
It’s Tintwistle Gala today! Come down to @TinnyAthleticFC this afternoon, enjoy lots of local food and drink and watch me try and judge the Best Dog Competition! Say hello if you see me.
I’m out and about knocking on doors in sunny Glossop this morning, lots of concern about recent car thefts and antisocial behaviour. Lots of support for building the Mottram Bypass too!
Thanks to everyone in Chapel-en-le-Frith and Cockyard who took the time to chat to us on the doorstep tonight. We’re out and about working hard, all year round! And lovely to drop in for a drink at The Hanging Gate afterwards!
Thanks to everyone who popped along to chat to me at my weekly help and advice surgery in Glossop today. Lots of issues raised on everything from disabled parking bays to Right to Buy. I’ll be taking lots of cases up on behalf of local people.
Thank you to the 26 MPs & Lords drawn from 5 parties across Parliament who wrote this week to @trussliz calling for “urgent, meaningful support to peacebuilding projects” & UK leadership in “establishing an International Fund for Israeli-Palestinian Peace”

It was lovely to visit @charlesworthsch
recently to do a Q&A with the children and to talk to them about road safety. We’re campaigning for a pedestrian crossing in the village to make it safer for children to walk to school.
The Ukrainian military have released possibly the best video of the conflict regarding Ukraine’s relationship with the UK.... just watch 🇺🇦🇬🇧
Last light (almost) of the ‘golden hour’ across sunny Buxton. An evening spent building old school bivouacs/shelters with 1st Buxton Scouts. #BCAStrongerRoots #BCAWoods #BuxtonGlimpses #PeakDistrict
Getting ready to watch the summer solstice sunset on Bamford Edge.

The Oldham Report is beyond grim. Systemic failure that allowed widespread sexual exploitation of children. We know about Rotherham and Oldham. Where else?
Oldham child sex exploitation report is extraordinary: “Offender A worked for Oldham Council between 1998 and 2006. He was employed as a welfare rights officer in the welfare rights unit of the council seconded to the Oldham Pakistani Community centre…”
On this day 2 years ago, I finally achieved my ambition of being featured on Angry People in Local Newspapers. The comments didn’t disappoint.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, especially my amazing Dad! As you can see from this photo, one of his many talents is the remarkable ability to camouflage himself to blend in with the furniture.
Thanks to everyone in Birch Vale who took the time to chat on the doorstep this afternoon. Lots of people raising dog fouling on Sett Valley trail and speeding on New Mills Road. Working hard all year round. Not just at election time!
Chapel-en-le-Frith is looking awesome for the Chapel Carnival today. Huge turnout, everyone having fun and great to see local legend Jack Massey leading the parade! Keep an eye out for the Lancaster Bomber fly over too!
We’ve been out & about knocking on doors in Tintwistle this morning. Thanks to everyone who took the time to chat. Lots of support for the proposed Village Gateway traffic calming scheme that I’ve been working on with the Parish Council.
It’s been a very busy ‘Your Local with Largan’ at The New Inn in Chapel-en-le-Frith tonight. Lots of issues raised on everything from the traffic lights on the main road to petrol prices. Thanks to Cllr Kath Sizeland and Councillor Stewart Young for lending a hand.
Devonshire Dome would be the perfect venue for Eurovision 2023!
@robertlargan maybe Buxton could host the event?
This is very very exciting.
The @EBU_HQ has issued the statement below regarding the hosting of next year’s #Eurovision Song Contest.

The last four books I’ve read. Send me your recommendations.
A former British solider from Glossop has been killed fighting for the Ukrainian armed forces. Jordan Gatley died in the battle for the eastern city of Severodonetsk, which has seen intense fighting in recent days.
My thoughts are with Jordan’s family.

If you’re looking to get a coronavirus vaccine, there’s a clinic in #Glossop at Unit 2-3 of Glossop Brook Business Park, off Glossop Brook Road, from 10am to midday today (Saturday).
It’s been a successful night at the George & Dragon in Charlesworth for a special pub quiz to raise money for the Friends of Charlesworth Primary School. Team Largan blew away the competition and won the quiz, thanks to our expert knowledge of the phonetic alphabet and 90s music.
I’ve been out and about knocking on doors in sunny Glossop tonight. Lots of issues raised on everything from the Mottram Moor roadworks to car thefts on Shirebrook. Working hard all year round. Not just at election time!
Class 3's performance for @robertlargan 💙
Consultation on #whaleybridge Neighbourhood Plan has now begun. Come and see us at one of our events, starting with #FABmarket @WhaleyBCanal Saturday 11th June from 10am. Find out more on our website
Best local MP we've ever had.
Since I was elected, my office & I have taken up over 40,000 individual cases on behalf of local people. I’ve responded to over 74,000 emails, letters, telephone calls & countless face to face conversations.
By working together, we’ve also secured some big local wins too!
I’ve had lots of tea & cake & had loads of fun chatting to lots of residents & meeting lots of dogs across High Peak! The final street party I attended was on Riverbank Way in Glossop. I hope everyone has had a lovely Jubilee weekend.
God Save The Queen!
Hayfield’s street party was so awesome, it’s got national coverage!
“I have been humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee.”
As the #PlatinumJubilee weekend draws to a close, Her Majesty has sent a thank you message to all those who have marked her 70 years as Queen.
Her Majesty, quite rightly, sets high standards at the Parks Inn in Harpur Hill!
Never mind the weather! There are lots of delicious cakes at Picnic in the Park in Chinley!
If you’re worried about the weather, you can go to the Jubilee Party at Chapel Leisure Centre today and bring your own indoor picnic. There’s a special Jubilee Assault Course Challenge and lots of interesting characters to meet. And there is a raffle with some amazing prizes!
Another highlight from yesterday, catching a few overs of @BuxworthCC vs @DoveHolesCC. We’re lucky to have some gorgeous cricket grounds in High Peak!
Yesterday’s street party in Gamesley is still my highlight of the weekend so far
