Earlier today I met with a group of people in Blackpool who have put themselves forward for a public appointment role.

They spoke to me about their experiences & their thoughts on how we open up @DCMS public appointments to people from every kind of background. (1/3)

@danroan To be fair, Paul Deacon kicking a drop goal in the 2003 Super League Grand Final was a pivotal moment for the Bradford Bulls. Maybe Nadine Dorries is a fan of Bullmania.

Like Jason Robinson I may have switched codes in my speech... Both league & union have a rich heritage in the UK. Obviously I've followed rugby league much less in my lifetime, but I'm looking forward to watching England (& all the home nations) in the RL World Cup this Autumn

Of course levelling up is about transport links and infrastructure projects. But it’s also about using culture to drive growth and regenerate towns and communities. It’s about bringing world-class art to every corner of the UK – and that’s exactly what @GrundyBlackpool does.

Good morning from Blackpool ! Looking forward to a jam-packed day ahead meeting @DCMS sectors at work across the North West.

Have your say!

We want to understand the impact of more short-term holiday lets in England.

Share your views on the challenges and opportunities for holidaymakers and the tourism sector.

Just met with sport governing bodies to discuss trans participation. This is a complex and emotionally charged issue - but it’s one that has been ducked for too long. We can’t pretend that sex doesn’t have a direct impact on a person’s athletic performance. (1/5)

Today I'm hosting telecoms leaders in Whitehall to discuss what more can be done to address the cost of living and lock in commitments to help struggling customers with rising bills.

Grew up listening to the band from my hometown - what a moment to see Macca headlining last night, still rocking it at 80.
Coverage of Glasto fantastic as ever. Credit to the BBC who have pulled off another huge technical feat to bring all of this amazing music to us at home.

I have huge compassion for anyone who finds themselves living in a body they don’t recognise. But we can’t pretend that sex doesn’t matter.

In a choice between inclusivity against fairness, I will always choose fairness.

If you’re born a male, and go through puberty as male, your body develops natural physical advantages over a woman’s. That makes you stronger and faster.
‘I’m setting a very clear line, competitive women’s sport must be reserved for people born female.

Tens of thousands of pupils will be given the chance to take up a new sport and learn a musical instrument, thanks to a multi-million-pound investment in sports and music education 🎷🎻🎸⚽🏏🏑

All children should have the opportunity to enjoy music and sports at school ⚽🏸🎻🎤

We're helping more schools like @ThealeGreen to provide an enriching curriculum that inspires young people to be active and love music 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽

Our National Plan for Music includes £25 million that will allow schools to purchase around 200,000 musical instruments and equipment.

A further £79 million will also be made available every year until 2025 for the Music Hubs programme.

One life lost to social media is one too many.

Change is needed. The Online Safety Bill will tackle online abuse and make the internet safer, especially for our children.

This is Felix's story, as told by his mum, Lucy 👇

1/3 Last night was a reminder that we must be relentless in cracking on with the job of delivering. Under @BorisJohnson we are massively investing in digital infrastructure which is accelerating growth and employment in our rapidly expanding tech sectors.

Obviously it’s a good night for Labour and the Lib Dems and a bad one for the Tories but historically, byelections tell us very little about subsequent general elections.
The Tories lost 15 seats at byelections between 1979 and 1992 but went on to win in 1983, 1987 and 1992.

This week the @DianaAward and @rioferdy5 hosted a reception to discuss how we can support young people to #SpeakOutAboutBullying.

No one should face bullying alone. #DontFaceItAlone

Right that the BBC are holding this review.

It's a stat I quote a lot - but it's staggering that 74% of those prosecuted for failing to pay the licence fee are women. Glad that they're looking into this in more detail so this disparity can be tackled.

Many pensioners are reliant on a free TV licence, which slashes the usual £159 cost to nothing.

So we're making it much easier for older people to apply for or renew their free TV licence – easing the admin burden put on over 75s.

As many people know, I moved to this country aged 11, unable to speak a word of English.

Some of my first school experiences involved being called a ‘p*ki’ and even having my head dunked in a pond by bigger kids as entertainment.
It’s time to talk about bullying.

Fantastic to join pupils at Shefford Lower School for a #BeInternetLegends assembly with @TheParentsZone and @GoogleUK, teaching children about media literacy and ways to stay safer online. #Onlinesafetybill

Spoke to @Otkachenkoua this afternoon to discuss the Eurovision Song Contest. We remain 💯 supportive of our friends in Ukraine being given the opportunity to host Eurovision next year, and demonstrate to the world the enduring richness of Ukrainian culture and creativity.

23% of young people would stop going online to avoid being bullied.

We can work together to change this. 💚

If you haven't already signed up, there is still time 👉

One of my favourite parts of the job. Got to spend this morning with young girls at Southern Road Primary in Newham taking part in the @FA’s Girls Football programme.

It doesn't just keep them fit and active – sessions like this give rise to the next generation of @Lionesses.

He’s got all the big calls wrong. Not an original thought or policy to grace his grid.
@BorisJohnson got them all right - lifting Covid restrictions, investing in the vaccine + vac rollout, furlough, unequivocal support for Ukraine, Rwanda ⬇️

Happy #SummerSolstice! ☀️

It's the first time in three years that crowds have been able to gather and enjoy the unforgettable atmosphere at Stonehenge.

Huge credit to @EnglishHeritage for supporting people to enjoy the magic of this amazing World Heritage Site this morning.
