Great to be back in Somerset today campaigning in the Somerton and Frome by-election for our brilliant @Conservatives candidate @fayepurbrick. Vote Conservative on 20th July.

Dropped into @Aeralisjet to catch up on progress with their modular jet which could replace the Hawk T2 as the trainer aircraft for the RAF. Their planned jet is a fantastic radical, world leading modular design.

Delighted to meet with newly appointed @educationgovuk minister for Skills, Further and Higher Education, @andreajenkyns. I presented her with a copy of the inquiry on MOD apprenticeships by @ApprenticeAPPG which I chaired and discussed how to promote apprenticeships more widely.

Ironic to hear Hague & Howard calling for PM to resign. Two former leaders who failed to win a mandate from the British people and failed to become PM. Compare & contrast to our PM who led our country to freedom out of the EU and secured an overwhelming mandate at the last GE.

I am supporting the PM today because he has delivered Brexit, the fastest vaccine roll-out in Europe,
he is leading the international effort against Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and he received an overwhelming mandate from the British people at the last General Election.

Fantastic effort from the management team at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway, who are fundraising for the people of Ukraine. All donations will be matched and passed to the UN Refugee Agency (http://www.unhcr.org). They will be here until 5pm today. Please support them if you can.

On Friday, the @LiamFox Down Syndrome Bill will have the third reading in the Commons. I am delighted that this Bill quite rightly, has cross party support.

Such devastating, awful news. Sir David Amess was a kind man who was devoted to his family and a very dedicated Member of Parliament. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.

Thanks to Health Secretary @MattHancock for meeting me to talk about the new variant cases in South Glos. I've also spoken to Council officers including the Director of Public Health, and will be meeting vaccines Minister @nadhimzahawi later.

Jess Stone, @Airbusinuk apprentice from Filton, has made the final of @MakeUK_ Engineering Apprentice Award.

I asked @AlokSharma_RDG to join me in congratulating Jess and to recognise the importance of apprenticeships to aerospace, and to ensure rewarding careers in engineering.

Today @BristolAero, they demonstrated Concorde's droop nose hosted by former Concorde Pilot Captain Tim Orchard.

The event followed the announcement this week of £514,000 from the #CultureRecoveryFund to the museum.

Asked the Prime Minister to commit to supporting our aerospace industry at #PMQs today. @BorisJohnson committed to look into a scrappage scheme for old aircraft - it makes sense for our environment and also for our local jobs.

Highly constructive meeting with representatives from @AirbusintheUK and Unite. Together we will work to ensure our aerospace industry prevails through this crisis to remain one of the world leaders when the economy begins to recover.

During a debate yesterday on UK defence rotary strategy, I highlighted the lives Chinooks saved in their role as Medical Emergency Response Teams supporting troops on operations. I congratulated @BoeingUK @RoyalAirForce for ensuring this aircraft has been kept flying for 40 yrs.

During @DFID_UK questions today, I asked the Minister about issues with UK funding to the Kurdistan region of Iraq to help cope with the significant influx of Syrian Refugees.

Since 2014 the Kurdish Region of Iraq has accommodated a million refugees and displaced people.

A huge honour yesterday evening to be sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Filton and Bradley Stoke Constituency.

Great to get cracking! I'm looking forward to the Queen's Speech tomorrow setting out our exciting programme for Government.

Agree with the need to speed up the defence procurement process and provide the taxpayer with the best value for money; but we must retain and enhance our sovereign defence capability.

Filton and Bradley Stoke is home to world renown defence and aviation industries. @Conservatives are the only party committed to protecting and increasing defence sector jobs across the South West.

It was great to welcome Education Secretary @GavinWilliamson to campaign in Filton & Bradley Stoke today. I am pleased that our government is committed to a min funding of £5000 / pupil in secondary and £4000 / pupil in primary schools. This will help all the schools in our area.
