Today’s raids & arrests at Apple Daily in Hong Kong demonstrate Beijing is using the National Security Law to target dissenting voices, not tackle public security. Freedom of the press is one of the rights China promised to protect in the Joint Declaration & should be respected.

Disgraceful to see the hounding of Nick Watt doing his job.

The media must be able to report the facts without fear or favour – they are the lifeblood of our democracy.

I am delighted that the 🇬🇧 has secured a trade deal with 🇦🇺.

It is the first deal we've negotiated from scratch, demonstrating what we can do as an independent trading nation.

The deal with strengthen UK-Australian relations, and will support 3.5 million British workers.

Today is the start of #MensHealthWeek.

Too many men cross the UK feel unable to speak about their mental health. It is more important than ever that we check in with our friends, family and ourselves.

There is no shame in asking for help.

A deal with Biden will show up EU's pettiness, says @imranahmadkhan (who came up with the idea for a new Atlantic Charter) #sundayexpress #sundayexpress

The New Atlantic Charter is important. I congratulate the PM and President in setting out the UK and USA’s shared objectives for the next eight decades as the Atlantic Charter did for the last. I proposed the concept to the PM a year ago & wrote the link👇

“Wakefield is poised to re-emerge as a centre of scholarly and skills-based achievement and excellence. Students, teachers and their families have had another challenging year, but things are already beginning to improve.”

Glorious weather for my visit to @ossettcc yesterday where I met members of the committee and people using the facilities.

There are exciting times ahead for the club, and I'm delighted to support this wonderful community asset.

Today I visited Toybox Nursery and spoke to owners Katie and Hayley about the challenges of running a busy nursery, their successful apprenticeship scheme and their possible expansion.

My special thanks to wonderful cook Gillian for treating me to one of her delicious cookies!

#CarersWeek is a chance to recognise and thank carers for the work they do supporting individuals, families and communities across #Wakefield and entire the United Kingdom.

You are an inspiration to us all.

In a globalized world, authoritarian regimes are increasingly seeking to consolidate their control by making it impossible for persecuted critics, writers, and dissidents to find safe refuge abroad.

On #NationalFishandChipDay, I maintain that the best fish and chips in the United Kingdom are found in my constituency, and if asked about the best of the best, I’d admit it to be the incomparable Barracuda on Horbury Road in Ossett.

We are looking forward to welcoming the #CathedralCycleRelay to @WakeCathedral this lunchtime.

Best of luck to all riders taking part and particularly warm wishes to those joining in with the Wakefield to @sheffcath leg.

Wakefield named one of ‘most chic’ cities in the UK - beating London

My thoughts today are with the families of those who lost their lives and all those affected by the cowardly terrorist attack at London Bridge four years ago.

Today, as then, we stand united and resolute against terrorism and the dangerous ideology that inspires it.

Last week we welcomed the very talented @markflynnphoto to @WakeCathedral who has taken some wonderful new pictures of our historic cathedral, both inside and out.

Over the next week we will be sharing some of these photographs on our social media feed, keep your eyes peeled! 👀

Today I attended the commemoration of the centenary of the unveiling of the War Memorial on Finkle Street in Woolley.

Joined by local Conservative councillors and constituents from the village, I took part in the small service.

On 28 May 2010, 86 Ahmadi Muslims were murdered in terrorist attacks on two Ahmadiyya Muslim Community mosques in Lahore, Pakistan, while they were offering Friday prayer. State-sponsored persecution of Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan must end. (1/2)

The UK 🇬🇧 welcomes the ICAO investigation into the Lukashenko regime’s forced landing of flight FR4978. We want the full circumstances that led to this violation of international law investigated & made public. We will defend the principles that underpin civil aviation.

This afternoon, as Chairman of @APPGForeign, I hosted a roundtable on #Belarus with former Belarusian Presidential candidate @ValeryTsepkalo and @VTsepkalo.

The discussion was interesting and wide-ranging, and included many strong contributions. Thank you to all who joined.

Great to see @imranahmadkhan keeping up the pressure on the Government regarding #pettheft. It can have a devastating impact on owners & stronger deterrents are required to reflect the harm of the crime: 🐕

The vaccine rollout is accelerating further, and as of today, everyone aged 30 or over can now come forward to get their COVID-19 vaccine.

I urge all my constituents in #Wakefield to join the many thousands across the constituency and District in getting jabbed.

Yesterday, the foreign secretary advised airlines to avoid Belarus' airspace, after a journalist was arrested on a Ryanair flight. On Thursday the @APPGForeign will hold a roundtable on Belarus, w/ @imranahmadkhan, @valerytsepkalo & experts on Belarus. Registration details below.

We were absolutely delighted to welcome @imranahmadkhan to Nostell Estate last week. Also fantastic to hear about the impressive plans of our tenant Aqualithium Ltd Well done David Oddie and team

Today’s events in Belarus are deeply concerning. Lukashenko is a menace. The international community must respond strongly.

Join @APPGForeign‘s upcoming event with HE Valery Tsepkalo, Lukashenko’s rival in the rigged Presidential election, to learn more.

Thanks to the tremendous effort of all involved in the vaccine rollout, the United Kingdom has now administered 60 million vaccines. 🇬🇧

HMS Queen Elizabeth is ready for her maiden voyage to the Indo-Pacific as the flagship of a Carrier Strike Group that will support our allies and promote stability and prosperity in the region.

I'm pleased to see @DCMS delivering on its pledge to level up connectivity, including through the £1bn of funding pledged to improve mobile coverage.

I asked the Minister whether this money was already being used to help banish rural hotspots, such as those in Wakefield.

We will get better access to Australian products, with more opportunities for our exports. Those who say we cannot compete with Australia backed massive EU Tariff free imports into U.K. but don’t want the EU to have to compete fairly for our business.

I welcome the ceasefire between Israel and Palestine.

Much work is needed to build trust & restart the peace process to establish a viable sovereign, independent & safe Palestine & a secure Israel.

I pray for peace & my thoughts are with all recovering from the recent violence.
