Strangulation is the second most common way women are murdered: over a quarter of femicides.

Over a quarter of young people said they had been unconsensually strangled during sex - girls are being told it’s mainstream and to be expected.

Violent and misogynistic pornography has…

My & @aliciakearns NC121 to ban non-fatal strangulation in porn was a recommendation in @BertinGabby's review, commissioned by @Conservatives and accepted by @UKLabour but so far no movement from Govt.

@VictimsComm @RobertBuckland criminalised NFS but that should extend online.

Tomorrow, we begin oral evidence sessions for our Protecting built heritage inquiry.

We’ll explore the motivations behind individuals preserving heritage sites and the challenges they face in doing so.

Tune in from 10am Tuesday 17 June 📆

In January, Keir Starmer shamefully smeared people like me calling for an inquiry into the rape gang cover-up as ‘far right.’

Now, faced with the vote we scheduled next week in Parliament and an external report, Starmer has finally capitulated. Not because he wants to do the…

We have published a letter alongside @ChiOnwurah @CommonsSITC and @Meg_HillierMP @CommonsLiaison seeking clarification on @peterkyle @SciTechgovuk's intention to establish a parliamentary working group on AI and copyright.

I assume @RachelReevesMP is planning an Emergency Budget?

She demanded one when GDP dropped by 0.1% under the Tories.

It has now dropped by 0.3% under Labour.

Not even a year in and this Government already feels like a burnt-out administration flailing around in its death throes.
People can’t wait to see the back of Labour.

The education tax was being used to pay for 6500 additional teachers.

There are 400 fewer.

Now it's being used for housing.

The housing department got a 0% budget increase.

"VAT money, if you're there, please make yourself known to us" 👻

I thought the VAT from school fees was to go on state schools? Not housing. You can’t even get your lies straight.
By the way what’s the latest estimate of how much the VAT will raise minus the cost of those leaving private education for the state system? Enough to build a…

"Live music is in crisis. The Government needs to be listening."

Our Chair @cj_dinenage made a speech advocating for her amendment to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill to protect live music venues and clubs from the impact of new building developments.

Great to see the brilliant Nick from @repaircafegosp represented in @UKHouseofLords this week alongside @thejeremyvine at the Parliamentary Repair Café.

Ours is one of over 700 Repair Cafes across the country - where volunteers are on hand to fix broken household items.

Not sure I've ever listened to a chancellorial speech so hard to work out what is happening. Rattling off huge number of figures making it look like big increases in spending on everything.
Bear in mind current spending on average on all other than NHS not rising over SR period.

The reality of NIC threshold changes laid bare: not redundancies but opportunities lost. It is opening hours being cut, staff shifts and pay being restricted and seasonal businesses not staffing up. If govt wants to get and keep Britain working it needs targeted NIC exemptions

“This will allow ministers to abolish income tax entirely for 81 per cent of employed Mauritians, and raise minimum salaries.”

Congratulations to Keir Starmer and David Lammy who’ve effectively eliminated income tax in Mauritius.

Which we’re paying for from our Defence budget.

Call me a cynic but it’s notable that this slipped out just as Parliament has gathered to hear the @hmtreasury @RachelReevesMP Spending Review

For a FIFTH time the Data Bill is back in @HouseofCommons and the Govt have got themselves into a real pickle.
Their proposed compromise does nothing to deliver the transparency our creative industries need to track their IP and it kicks a workable solution into the long grass.

“We were clear at the time that the changes to NICs were a tax on jobs, and so it is sadly proving."

Our CEO @UKHospKate has called for a review and reversal of NICs increases, after @ONS revealed 100,000 jobs have been lost since April cost increases.

This #WorldCancerDay, @GwynneMP announced a National Cancer Plan.

@Siobhain_Mc announced a clinical trial. The government has reinstated the Children & Young People Cancer Taskforce, led by @cj_dinenage.

Since writing to @DHSCgovUK regarding the closure of Apricity Fertility Clinic, I’ve received the response below.

I will be looking out for the Government’s future proposals for legislation in this area and will do all I can to hold them to account.

A £2.4 billion industry but we are still losing nightclubs & GMVs at an appalling rate.

This report strikes the right note by calling for support for venues, but to put grassroots music on a sustainable footing in 🇬🇧 we need a Fan Led Review of Music.

In our session this week, @cj_dinenage asked James Smith, Chief Executive of Human Native AI, about the implications of allegations DeepSeek used OpenAI's intellectual property (IP) ⬇️

If this is to happen to our area, then postponing elections for a year seems sensible. It would cost £2.5 million to run Hampshire-wide elections in 2025, which will only have to be done all over again on the new boundaries next year.

Today I have laid an amendment to the Tobacco and Vapes Bill that would prohibit the supply of cigarette filters containing plastic.

This amendment is an environmental no-brainer and is overwhelmingly popular too!

I spoke to @itvmeridian about why the return of the Children and Young People Cancer Taskforce is so important.

@DHSCgovuk @Sophieslegacy10 @GOSHCharity @YLvsCancer @TeenageCancer @SKC_UK

Today we received confirmation that the Children and Young People Cancer Taskforce will resume its vital work.

In memory of Sophie Fairall and her incredible legacy @Sophieslegacy10 💙💜

#WorldCancerDay

I am delighted that on #WorldCancerDay it has been confirmed that the Children & Young People Cancer Taskforce will resume its work.

I will be returning as Co-Chair working to improve the way we detect, treat & care for children & young people with cancer.

@sophieslegacy10

Our chair, @cj_dinenage comments on the Government's proposed AI regulation, likening the 'opt in' system to a legislative hokey cokey

We are holding a session with @CommonsSITC on Tuesday 4 Feb, on the future of AI and copyright law

👀 Look out for this on 4 Feb!

With £30 million of funding, much of which was secured under the previous @Conservatives leadership, @GosportCouncil has huge potential to deliver for our area.

So please leave your feedback when the early concepts drop!

Thanks to the Royal School of Military Engineering for letting us join them in Minley today on the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme. It’s an invaluable way to build understanding of our Armed Forces' capability and capacity.

If the creative industries are to deliver on their full potential, employers need to ensure freelancers are protected from bad behaviour. #CIISA is a key pillar in that growth story. I’m glad @dcms @rhonddabryant @lisanandy agree.

It now needs proper buy-in across the sector.

I recently wrote a piece on how changes to the Apprenticeship Levy can shift the dial on creative skills.

I’m glad the PM has finally corrected the record.

I know that No10 & DfE are just blaming one another for this disastrous Schools Bill, but it might help if at least one of them got a grip of this Bill before they destroy education standards in this country.

Today I have written to @mhclg with @pauljholmes @SuellaBraverman to highlight the hypocrisy and spite of Labour housing targets.

@GosportCouncil & @FarehamBC are seeing a 5x increase whilst Labour areas are seeing reductions! We’ve urged @AngelaRayner to reconsider.
