.@POferries now this looks like yet another costly incident aboard the Pride of Kent as she was loading at Calais. Let’s hope nobody was injured. There is a reason we need experienced crews sailing these ferries.

@LouHaigh @grantshapps Noooo! That’s so sad. The number 10 is so important to anyone getting to the hospital from this side of town. It’s vital to Manor Top, Gleadless, Heeley and Meersbrook communities and one of the rare means of getting somewhere other than town. 😢😤

Just heard @British_Water on @BBCr4today . Have you built any new reservoirs ? Err , no . Have you addressed leakages ? Err , no . Have you been over-abstracting from UK rivers ? Err , yes . Have your shareholders made grotesque profits ? Err , yes . Shall we mention sewerage . .

This is just the start of devastating bus cuts in communities across the country.

The Tories knew this crisis was coming, they were warned, and they did nothing.

This isn’t levelling-up, it’s managed decline.

Sport and recreation are important parts of daily life, yet we’ve had a decade of failure on sport with the Conservative cost of living crisis making everyday access to fitness activities more difficult.

My latest for ⁦⁦@DailyMirror👇

@LouHaigh They are such important routes in Sheffield! The 10/10A meant I didn’t have to go into town to get to the Hallamshire. Shocking that when we need to reduce car use, the buses are in crisis.

Really bad news that Powells has announced closure today with bus services ending this Monday.

This is totally unacceptable for the thousands who rely on these routes and yet another symptom of the chronic underfunding and failure of the market.

3 weeks and no response from @grantshapps about the future of Doncaster Sheffield Airport yet his Ministers have had private meetings with Peel. We need urgent answers on what Government has asked of Peel and what support has been offered

This is a scandal.

Petrol giants are shamelessly profiteering while working people struggle to make ends meet.

Yet the Tories plan to hand back billion to oil and gas giants, instead of using that money to help families now.

Truss: ‘What I’m very concerned about on the TV licence fee is how many women have ended up in prison for non-payment, a disproportionate number'. To meet her own 'honest candidate' test, surely @trussliz should have also admitted that she made this exact same argument on public sector pay in Cabinet in 2018?

Despite a record backlog caused by the government’s defunding of criminal justice, our soft-on-crime Justice Secretary @DominicRaab is happy to leave over ONE THIRD of courtrooms closed today, as victims wait years for justice.

Come on #DeckchairDom. Do your job and fix this. https://twitter.com/Court_Stats/status/1554738847707193345

It was a pleasure to profile 7 Trade Union leaders of Irish heritage for @theirishpost this week

The bonds between the Irish community & Trade Union movement are a source of immense pride, rooted in shared values & experience

BT’s CEO has refused to meet @CWUnews despite his staff taking industrial action. This is unacceptable. @LucyMPowell and I have written to him demanding he opens negotiations. A fair pay deal could resolve this dispute. We stand with the workers.👇🏻

BP and Shell are reporting bumper profits while families struggle with rising energy bills.

What does former Shell employee Liz Truss want to do about it? Nothing.

It’s time we stopped handing back billions to oil and gas giants and used that money to help families instead.

Today @LucyMPowell and I met with @DaveWardGS @CWU_AndyKerr as BT Group workers strike for the first time in 35 years.

BT made £1.3bn, gave £750m to shareholders, and handed their CEO a 32% pay rise. Time for them to get around the table with @CWUnews and agree a fair pay deal.

We know that insulating the UK's cold and draughty homes will save families hundreds each year. Everyone should be able to come home to somewhere warm this winter.

When @grantshapps uses the phrase "the two Micks" to refer to the General Secretaries of ASLEF and RMT in the Times, he knows exactly what he is doing.
Which makes a change.

Train drivers and staff kept this country going during the pandemic.

They deserve a fair pay rise and respect.

Grant Shapps should stop boycotting the talks, do his job and get around the table to agree a deal.

This has been one of the hardest moments of my life.

Thank you all for the love and support I have received❤️

I've spoken to @MetroUK about my breast cancer journey.

Lloyds Bank on City Road is set to close permanently.

In deprived communities right across South Yorkshire, banks have been closing branches, leaving many without access to local banking services.

Shadow Transport Secretary Louise Haigh said: “People in the North are sick and tired of empty words of this discredited government – and the weasel words of the two continuity candidates over whether they will deliver new lines show they are only offering more of the same."

EXC: Andy Burnham and Northern mayors urge next PM to meet them to re-think region's cut price rail plan

Shadow transport secretary @LouHaigh: “It is utterly shameful Grant Shapps is refusing to do his job and enter talks to end this disruption. He has spent more time on his own doomed leadership bid than he has resolving these strikes."

Transport secretary is "responsible for this dispute" says RMT's general secretary Mick Lynch - adding that if Grant Shapps wants to "facilitate a negotiated settlement" Lynch is "happy to deal with him".

Grant Shapps refuses to do the job he’s paid for and sort this dispute out.

He’s vying to be the most useless and and dangerous Transport Secretary in history - and it really does take some to outdo Chris Grayling.

Today’s rail strike could have been avoided.

But the Tory government didn’t spend a single second in talks to prevent it.

Labour will grow the economy, transform workers’ rights and secure fair pay.

Even Tory MPs now agree that broken Tory promises will leave the north in the slow lane for decades, and hold our economy back.

After 12 years of failure, people are sick of the empty words of this discredited government

They should deliver the rail investment promised.

Instead of resolving disputes, the Tories are dreaming up cynical anti-union laws that will make it even harder for people to defend themselves.

They want to attack working people who are facing the biggest threat to their living standards in a generation

TUC Deputy General Secretary Paul Nowak: Ultimately the fact that trains won't run tomorrow is Grant Shapps' responsibility

@BenKentish | @nowak_paul

This leadership contest is a scrap between political lightweights.

The big hitters in town are @Keir_Starmer and @RachelReevesMP.

And @UKLabour is going to land a knockout blow on whoever emerges from the latest Tory debacle.

Only ministers can resolve this dispute, but they’re refusing to do their job.

Grant Shapps spent more time on his doomed 48-hour leadership bid than he has resolving the biggest national strike in decades.

This is a serious dereliction of duty.

Ben Kentish @BenKentish

On Sunday, Mick Lynch told me he hasn’t spoken to any government minister for months https://twitter.com/KevinASchofield/status/1551836078235066369

After 12 years of the Tories, Britain is stuck.

Stuck at Dover. Stuck with a low-growth, high-tax economy. Stuck trying to get a passport or see a GP.

The more time the Tories have, the worse it gets. Only Labour can deliver a fresh start for Britain. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-62263176

Brits are facing a summer of serious travel disruption, and Ministers are missing in action.
They can't even get the basics right.
They must take responsibility for tackling the never-ending chaos growing on their watch.

This caller, who chose to drive to Hungary to avoid 'huge delays' and cancellations at airports, has faced being delayed at Dover.

This weekend the Govt will oversee some of the most severe bus cuts in decades, pulling the plug on funding from local authorities across the country.

Let's be clear, this will hurt communities and stop the levelling up agenda in its tracks.

The Government must explain itself.

Within days, communities across the country are facing a wave of devastating bus cuts.

And Tory ministers have literally nothing to say.

The promises they made to fix our broken buses were meaningless.

Despite the Government's tough talk, they've admitted that @POferries are still receiving public funds.

Not one single penny of taxpayers' money can be used to boost the profits of these gangsters. @BWallaceMP needs to find alternative providers without delay.

Labour will fight to give seafarers the protection they deserve.

The P&O scandal must be a line in the sand.

NEW: Labour's Louise Haigh has demands action from the government to tackle a "looming bus crisis" amid reports that more than 100 bus routes in England are facing cutbacks or closures over the summer: https://labourlist.org/2022/07/louise-haigh-demands-action-from-ministers-to-tackle-looming-bus-crisis/

1/ This scathing report reveals the Conservatives’ calamitous mishandling of the vital Leeds-Manchester line wasted hundreds of millions, and is set to be at least a decade late.

Passengers have paid the price for a decade of neglect and incompetence.

Yesterday they received more than 2,600 calls.
