Standards falling across government with a Prime Minister who never sticks to the rules.

Yesterday the Policing Minister made cheap political attacks and broke parliamentary convention, because he has nothing to say about rising crime and falling convictions.

I've had regular meetings with @WirelessFest organisers & hope that concerns & lessons learnt from 2021 have been listened to. Ahead of the 2022 start tomorrow I'm sharing the dedicated number & email for residents to report issues to:02080801592 cp.residents@festivalrepublic.com

The Conservatives are soft on rape, soft on rapists and they don’t like to face the fact that they’re letting sex offenders off and letting survivors down. No-one is going to stop me from standing up for victims. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jun/30/minister-complains-speaker-labour-remarks-convictions?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

Every woman should be able to walk home. Thoughts are with Zara Aleena’s family. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/jun/29/zara-aleena-family-tribute-beloved-human-joy-to-all

It's important that the Home Secretary @pritipatel understands our feelings, as the London PLP, following the news that the Met Police Service have been put into special measures.

Our letter, co-signed by fellow London Labour MPs, with 3 hours notice.

Will no doubt add more.👇🏾

#CommunityPayback is an opportunity for criminals to make reparations to the communities & victims they have harmed.

But under the Tories hours have been wiped or completed at home.

Labour's Community & Victim Payback Boards will restore confidence & hold offenders accountable.

Rape prosecutions are still at near record lows & court backlogs are still at near record highs.

Three years on from recognising their failure, the Tories haven’t done nearly enough.

Labour’s plan would drive up prosecutions & restore victims’ confidence in our justice system.

Very proud to join the @SocLabLaw again for this years @londonlegal walk, raising money for frontline free legal advice services. If you can support us or want to find out more see the link below. https://londonlegalsupporttrust.enthuse.com/pf/society-of-labour-lawyers

Huge congratulations to @SimonLightwood - Labour’s new MP for Wakefield!

A historic victory — this city deserved a fresh start, and you delivered it.

Wakefield is the birthplace of the next Labour government.

Absolutely brilliant to meet with @HPAKentHouse in Parliament earlier this week and discuss the work of an MP. Some brilliant questions and great to see so many engaged with politics.

This Conservative Government’s Bill of Rights con is an attack on women.

It will make it harder for victims of rape to get justice.

But it comes as no surprise from a Govt that has effectively decriminalised rape.

On Windrush Day I thank the Windrush Generation, who came from every corner of the Commonwealth to help rebuild Britain after the Second World War. Their impact in Lewisham West & Penge is immeasurable.

The Human Rights Act plays a critical role in the ability of women who have been the victims of rape & sexual violence to challenge the state’s failures to protect them.

This is why @UKLabour will fight tooth and nail to defend it.

I met a woman at my local foodbank who fled Ukraine with her two-year-old.

She was queuing for food and nappies because of the 5-week wait for universal credit.

After fleeing the horrors of war how can this be right? I called on the Home Secretary to give immediate support.

📢 Nearly 100 MPs have joined our call to #KeepCounsellingConfidential. We are really pleased to see this show of support from so many MPs. Rape survivors should never be forced to choose between seeking justice and seeking therapy.

Huge waits for passports and driving licences.

Huge queues at airports.

Huge waiting lists for healthcare and court dates.

Welcome to Boris Johnson’s Backlog Britain.

This week we celebrated @JohnCryerMP being the longest serving Chair of the Parliamentary Labour Party in all its history. Could not be prouder of him and every thing he has done for @UKLabour

Good to visit @LWBromley today. No one should ever have to rely on a food bank to survive, but as many struggle with the cost of living crisis, the work they do to support our community is more important than ever. I could not be prouder of the brilliant staff & volunteers.

Rape prosecutions at record lows and court backlogs at record highs yet all this Govt can do is more pilots.

They're letting rapists off and letting survivors down.

Labour has a plan to change this but the Tory offer is too little too late.

Today, 6 years on since Jo was tragically murdered, I'm reflecting on her amazing legacy and all the amazing work that now happens in her name.

Jo was right: we must focus on the fact we have #moreincommon than that which divides us.

With only 1.3% reported rapes being prosecuted, it’s staggering that it has taken the govt over a year from their own rape review to roll this out in only 3 courts. Victims continue to be failed by this soft on crime Conservative government.

Enjoyed meeting the Unpaid Work team at Dump’s Adventure Playground and seeing the difference they are making for the community.

Fantastic to see positive ways in which we can rehabilitate people & build a better community.

The government’s decision to sell off Channel 4 -one of Britain’s cultural crown jewels -will kill off our film industry and cost jobs and businesses in the regions and nations.

My ⁦⁦@yorkshirepost⁩ article on Labour’s debate today in Parliament https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/opinion/columnists/the-government-needs-to-scrap-the-channel-4-sell-off-which-will-damage-yorkshire-lucy-powell-mp-3729987

Fantastic to be at @PengeFestival today, so proud of our brilliant community. Thanks to everyone who made it happen and well done to Scoobie for winning the dog 🐶 competition!

A pleasure to meet with unpaid carers and discuss the challenges they face.

Unpaid carers are unsung heroes supporting millions of people but for too long they have been overlooked.

This #CarersWeek I pledge to continue speaking up for them in Parliament.

My constituents are being failed by the passport office.

It’s unbelievable the Government didn’t see this coming.

The Home Secretary must finally get a grip and address this shambles.

Brilliant to attend @sainsburys reception in Parliament and learn about their community work with local food banks and their work to reduce plastic use and become net zero.

These are jaw-dropping sums.

£11 billion lost to fraudsters and criminals and now this.

Labour will get a grip of this Conservative government’s wasteful spending and treat taxpayers’ money with the respect it deserves.

The 2011 #IstanbulConvention on preventing & combating violence against women sets out minimum standards that European countries should have in their legislation. Its disappointing that, after 11 years the government still haven't fully ratified it. Labour would change this.

Brilliant to attend @unisontheunion's reception and support their Disability Employment Charter to help improve the working lives of disabled people.

Today is five years since I was first elected to the House of Commons.

It's been an absolute honour to represent Lewisham West & Penge.

Thank you to everyone for your support these last 5 years.

Jade’s family are absolutely right to call for a change in the law to curb parental rights for those who kill the mother of their children. I look forward to meeting them in parliament today to discuss the campaign #JadesLaw https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-61724715

The choice is clearer than ever before:

Divided Tories propping up Boris Johnson with no plan to tackle the issues you are facing.

Or a united Labour Party with a plan to fix the cost of living crisis and restore trust in politics.

Labour will get Britain back on track.

Back from a glorious holiday (and my first full week off social media / emails in 5 years) just in time for my #platiniumjubilee street party raising money for @LWBromley Hope that the 🌧 clears up for it 🤞

I am both impressed by, and thankful to the @LBofBromley Ukrainian Support Hub which opened last week at the Civic Centre. The hub will be offering weekly drop-in sessions for Ukrainian families who need help & support with issues ranging from benefits to school places & jobs.

Delighted to announce that @younglewisham will be the Mayor's Charity for 2022-23.

We heard from Carole and George about the vital work they do in supporting over 350 young people every year to gain the skills that they need.

Visit http://younglewisham.org.uk to find out more!

Good it seems the Chancellor is finally being dragged kicking & screaming to a U turn, and four months late adopting Labour’s call for a windfall tax on oil & gas producer profits.

Why has it taken so long?

Why have families had to struggle and worry while he dragged his feet?

When Sabina Nessa’s killer didn’t turn up to court to hear his sentence his cowardice caused further unimaginable hurt to her family.
This soft on crime, tough on victims Govt must make criminals accountable for their actions by enforcing them to attend their sentencing hearings.

.@LBofBromley next coffee morning/'meet up' for Ukrainian families & their sponsors will take place this Saturday, 28th of May at Bromley Central Library from 10:30am to 12:30pm. These will run every fortnight for as long as it is helpful for families to connect with one another!

Sue Gray's report lays bare the rot that has infected Downing Street under this Prime Minister.

The govt treated the sacrifices of the British people with utter contempt & it's clear the Prime Minister misled Parliament and the British people.

He must go.

This govt's failure to give our fantastic probation services the resources they need means that some offenders on community sentences are now being let off whilst victims are still paying the price for crime.

This is the state of our broken justice system under the Tories.

The Conservatives ignored a victim of child sex abuse and allowed his abuser to become MP for Wakefield. They must now back an independent investigation to make sure they can never do this again
