Our servicemen and women in the Armed Forces defend our democracy and our country.

Their role is the ultimate public service – and no matter how adversaries seek to undermine our beliefs, we will always believe that our country is worth defending.

Here's the letter sent to @TheFCA this afternoon providing feedback to the BSPS redress scheme consultation, signed by 27 cross-party MPs.
This is a significant moment for steelworker pensioners. I’m pleased so many MPs from steelmaking areas recognise the importance of this.

I’m proud to be supporting @APIL injury prevention week. Last year nearly 44,000 people were injured at work. We must do more to protect workers from preventable injuries #ipweek2022

Getting young children reading is so important. I am very happy to support the 2022 #SummerReadingChallenge to encourage children to discover the amazing world around them. You can sign up at your local library or online at http://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk

Labour’s commitment to NATO is unshakable. As the Madrid Summit for NATO’s next Strategic Concept begins today, we need this 10 year plan to spell out how the Alliance will respond to increasing threats to our security – a thread 👇

Today, on #ArmedForcesDay we thank our Armed Forces for keeping us safe and for their service on the front line.

A Labour government would make sure our veterans get a better deal with fair access to the housing and the services they deserve.

Loud noise, damage to our beautiful countryside and anti-social behaviour: illegal off-road biking is causing misery to my constituents.

In Parliament this week, I called on the Government to address the issue with my three point plan.

Excellent reception tonight in office of @Keir_Starmer for Britain’s Armed Forces and Veterans, ahead of @ArmedForcesDay Great to see a good Welsh contingent! @labourforces @AngelaRayner @JohnHealey_MP

Early start to join the @simonlightwood campaign in Wakefield - the response on the doorstep has been phenomenal! Now heading to London for my debate on illegal off-road biking this evening

What a glorious day to celebrate the bi-centennial of @UWTSD with staff, fellows and the surrounding community. Good to meet new pro-vice chancellor @iestyntdavies and great to see the university go from strength to strength.

Great to be in sunny Carmarthen to meet with @siandoyles4c to talk about the exciting, growing television sector in Wales

This week is the 50th anniversary of the Watergate break-in which brought down Richard Nixon. Fantastic to debate it’s legacy with Lord Birt, @bridget_kendall @timothy_stanley and Iwan Morgan in Speakers rooms tonight

The uncertainty over the AJAX programme is causing real anxiety for workers in Oakdale and Merthyr, a decision has to be made sooner rather than later:

Future of £3.2bn Ajax programme causing 'real anxiety' for Gwent workforce https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/20206716.ajax-vehicle-scheme-problems-cause-real-anxiety-wales/?ref=twtrec

So many jobs in Islwyn and across Wales are dependent on the AJAX programme that the uncertainty around its future is having a detrimental effect on the local economy. Its about time the MoD give an answer on its future

First time figures revealed by Labour show that Ministers are forcing up to 70,000 veterans to rely on universal credit during the cost of living crisis 👇🏻https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10908711/amp/Ministers-urged-provide-help-UK-veterans-revealed-70-000-benefits.html

Lots of iconic packaging is actually made in Islwyn at Seda. It’s always good to catch up with Paul Synnott to hear about a great local employer who continues to grow

It was an honour to meet with nuclear test veteran John Morris and activists from LABRAT International. Test veterans have been ignored and mistreated for too long. They deserve compensation for the medical issues caused by the tests and recognition for their valiant sacrifices

Great to meet Matthew Nesbitt from William Hare, alongside the British Constructional Steelwork Association, to hear about their extensive investment in Risca, apprenticeships in the steel industry, & their ongoing support of the local community. I look forward to visiting soon!

Big thank you to @iaindale who managed to cover 300 years of history and 55 Prime Ministers in just under an hour at our latest Archives and History APPG. Fascinating discussion and lots to learn for any sitting or aspiring PM!

41% of his own MPs have no confidence in @BorisJohnson … the rest are deluded enough to let him blunder on. In reality that’s good for Labour but, more importantly, it’s appalling for Britain. We deserve better.

The choice is clearer than ever before:

Divided Tories propping up Boris Johnson with no plan to tackle the issues you are facing.

Or a united Labour Party with a plan to fix the cost of living crisis and restore trust in politics.

Labour will get Britain back on track.

Real sympathy for a great Ukraine team who played an outstanding game, hoping to give their country a well needed lift.

90 minutes of light relief I hope for all watching in such desperate circumstances 🇺🇦

Absolutely fantastic! What an incredible tribute to Her Majesty and joyful celebration of 70 years devoted public service. Thank you Ma’am! #PlatinumPartyatthePalace

Diana Ross was great but Bocelli stole the show for me!

Really was an honour tonight to be up Twmbarlwm with Risca Town Council, 1st Abercarn Scouts, St John’s Ambulance & the community for the lighting of a beacon to commemorate the Queen’s 70th Jubilee. To stand there and see all the beacons lit for miles was an amazing experience!

Such an incredible view all the way across the Severn, always blows me away how beautiful it is up here! #Twmbarlwm #BeaconLighting #PlatinumJubilee

The Queen truly is a remarkable woman. 70 years of unwavering public service is quite something and I hope everyone enjoys the celebrations and long bank holiday weekend. Thank you Your Majesty!

Dither and delay at the MOD means the new Chinook helicopters will now cost the taxpayer an additional £300 million. Incompetent and wasteful Ministers are repeatedly failing British Forces and British taxpayers

A sunny visit to We Connect with @jessicamordenmp where we met up with the fantastic volunteers of @RiscaV. I was blown away by their community pantry and work they do to tackle loneliness in Islwyn & Newport. It’s programmes like this that are the backbone of our communities.

Our defence sector provides vital jobs across the UK - as @peterkyle and I saw when we visited Thales Belfast yesterday where NLAWs are made.

NLAWs have been key military assistance sent from the UK to Ukraine, and Labour fully backs this support continuing.

First the Tories said they couldn’t introduce a windfall tax because producers were the ones struggling.

Then they called it ‘Unconservative.’

Now Labour has dragged them kicking and screaming to this obvious solution.

Why has it taken them so long while households suffered?

To start, a Labour Government would:

✅Conduct a new strategic defence review with people and threats at the heart of plans
✅Halt Army cuts
✅Aim to contribute a warfighting division to NATO well before 2030
✅Commission the NAO to conduct an audit of MOD waste

Joined the @simonlightwood campaign to ensure Wakefield gets the full-time Labour MP it deserves. Lots of angry former Tory voters out there…lots of angry voters full stop at this shambles of a government

Early start today for a visit to Derby where I met with @RollsRoyceUK to talk about nuclear submarines and their impressive apprenticeship programme which aims to fill the skills gap in the defence industry

THE. LAST. CATEGORY. SPOTLIGHT!!!

Last, but by no means least ofc!!

The @Pinsent_Masons Sports Writing Award shortlist 👇 Congrats to all!

The Foreign Affairs Committee's report on Afghanistan is clear - shortcomings with the ARAP scheme before Kabul fell led to "many waiting for a response until it was too late". But the scheme is still failing those who supported UK troops. https://committees.parliament.uk/committee/78/foreign-affairs-committee/news/171010/systemic-failures-of-leadership-planning-and-preparation-mps-slam-government-role-in-uk-withdrawal-from-afghanistan/

The MoD is a uniquely failing department, yet no serious steps have been taken to secure value for money. Nearly £6B has been wasted since 2019, while the Defence Secretary has been in post.

Ministers are failing British troops and British taxpayers.

As the son of a submariner it was a real honour to be at the unveiling of the Submariner Memorial at @Nat_Mem_Arb today. It remembers the 5,960 submariners lost and the contribution and sacrifice made by those who served and their families. Important memorial for #Devonport too.

Shamefully, the Tories voted against it.

They want those companies to keep their record profits and for the rest of us to pay more..

Today Conservative MPs have a simple choice to make.

Vote for a windfall tax on bumper energy profits to cut bills or explain why they refuse to help working people, families and pensioners.
