🚂 Useful meeting with Chris Jackson, Regional Director of Northern.

We discussed timetable improvements to local railways (including at weekends), passenger safety on trains and at stations, and the importance of encouraging people back on board following the pandemic. 🚂

🌳 With Friends of Torkington Park in Hazel Grove this morning helping to put up the animal wood carvings.

The team of volunteers work incredibly hard to keep the park attractive and welcoming. Thanks to them all! 🌳

🖼 🎨 It was lovely to attend the New Beeches Art Group exhibition at St Barnabas Church in Bredbury recently.

The group goes from strength to strength and it was great to see them exhibiting their work together for the first time since the pandemic restrictions. 🖼 🎨

Wishing Revd Tracy Ward well as she leaves St Thomas’ Church, Mellor after four full years. Thank you Tracy for all of your hard work and ministry locally and good luck with your new role as chaplain at Stepping Hill hospital! @stthomasmellor

🌞 Great to see the Hazel Grove carnival parade forming up and help with the judging. Looks set to be a great afternoon on Torkington Park.

Thank you to the organisers and all those taking part! 🌞 @HGCarnival

Tomorrow we are questioning the Rt Hon Sir John Major (Prime Minister 1990-97) as part of our inquiry Propriety of governance in light of Greensill

Tuesday 12 July 11am

As a vice chair of the 1922 committee overseeing the election of a new leader of the @Conservatives, I shall not declare who I am supporting. I wish all my colleagues well - it is a hugely brave thing to stand. Let us go forward together 🇬🇧

I am standing again to be a vice-chair of the 1922 Executive and hope colleagues will support me to continue in the role. The situation needs a new confidence vote in the PM, which can come by Tuesday next week. In the meantime he could do the right thing and resign.

Dissolution not in gift of PM. Under Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act, power of dissolution has reverted to being a personal prerogative power. PM can recommend, but not advise, a general election. One of three prerogative powers not exercised on advice. https://twitter.com/Peston/status/1544712075938766849

Robert Peston @Peston

This is amazing. Boris Johnson is refusing to commit to Bernard Jenkin he won’t dissolve parliament to save himself. This is quite astonishing.

The public rightly expect government to be conducted properly, competently and seriously.

I recognise this may be my last ministerial job, but I believe these standards are worth fighting for and that is why I am resigning.

My letter to the Prime Minister below.

I have spoken to the Prime Minister to tender my resignation as Secretary of State for Health & Social Care.

It has been an enormous privilege to serve in this role, but I regret that I can no longer continue in good conscience.

It makes perfect sense to control the size of government and ask why & where it has grown since 2016.

It makes no sense to say, like this, that for one year, the best and the brightest aren’t welcome to serve their country. https://twitter.com/TevyeMarkson/status/1543890718690770944

Plans to pause the fast stream are confirmed on the Civil Service Fast Stream website

🇬🇧 On Armed Forces Day it was good to be at the launch of ‘We Were There’ - a video about life on the Home Front during the Second World War.

It was lovely to chat to those with personal and family experiences, remembering veterans and the wider impact of conflict.

Great to have the opportunity once again to raise #AorticDissection at #PMQs - including the hard work of @AorticDissectCT and their fantastic patient resources videos featuring @WhisperingBob - https://aorticdissectioncharitabletrust.org/courses/living-with-aortic-dissection/

Next week we will be questioning Lord Geidt, the Independent Adviser on Ministerial Interests, about his first year in the post, and the recent changes to the powers of the Independent Adviser.

Tuesday 14 June at 10am

“I have been humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee.”

As the #PlatinumJubilee weekend draws to a close, Her Majesty has sent a thank you message to all those who have marked her 70 years as Queen.

🌞 Thank you to the Marple Bridge Association and Compstall Community Council for organising a great Platinum Jubilee event yesterday.

Lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves in the sunshine 🌞

👑 Great turnout at the Romiley Platinum Jubilee street party yesterday. So nice to see the community coming together!

A big “Thank you” to the organisers who made it all possible! 👑

🔔 I took part in the Platinum Jubilee Ring yesterday at St Thomas’ Church, Mellor. @stthomasmellor

70 people with one minute each on the bell all raising money for good causes. 🔔

Superb Platinum Jubilee well dressing at St Thomas’ Church in Mellor. Well done to the team for their creativity with natural materials and hours of work. @stthomasmellor

Great to be at the lighting of Stockport’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon with @MaryRobinson01 following a lovely service reflecting on Her Majesty the Queen’s 70 years of dedicated service to our country.
🇬🇧 God Save the Queen 🇬🇧

Next week we will be questioning @DavidGHFrost.
The Former UK Chief Negotiator, Exiting the EU & Task Force Europe, as part of our inquiring into the Scrutiny of Treaties and other international agreements.

Tuesday 7 June at 10am

A Joint letter from @CommonsPACAC @CommonsJustice @HumanRightsCtte @HLConstitution has been sent to Lord Chancellor @DominicRaab @MoJGovUK calling for pre-legislative scrutiny of a 'Bill of Rights'.

** Congratulations to Sir Graham Brady who today has become the longest serving Chairman of the 1922 committee in history **
You can hear his reflections on this milestone on Chopper’s Politics podcast tomorrow from 6am. @ChoppersPodcast. @SirGrahamBrady

The Government has blocked the Cabinet Secretary, Simon Case, and Director General of Propriety and Ethics, Darren Tierney, from appearing before the Committee on Tuesday.

The Cabinet Secretary will now appear on June 28th

Good to join the Mellor march this year, raising funds for local and Ukrainian cancer charities. £10k distributed this year. 100s taking part. Thank you to the organisers! 🇬🇧 🇺🇦

Happy Birthday Your Majesty!

Today as The Queen turns 96, we’re sharing this photograph of the young Princess Elizabeth aged 2.

Then, in 1928, it was never expected she would be Queen, and this year Her Majesty is celebrating her #PlatinumJubilee - a first in British history.

If banning conversion therapy will stop the likes of me being subjected to mental cruelty in repressing my true self, why not so for someone who is trans? I can see no logic in excluding trans people from legislation banning conversion therapy. Let’s have some empathy.

Plans to extend the Bredbury Park Industrial estate have been rejected by the Planning Inspectorate. It would've meant a huge logistics park next to the River Tame. It follows a campaign by the MPs Andrew Gwynne and William Wragg - along with local people who live nearby.

I’m pleased that the Planning Inspectorate has rejected Quorum's appeal to extend the Bredbury Parkway estate into the Tame Valley.

My thanks to @GwynneMP & @bbgkpp who have worked hard, alongside local campaigners, throughout the appeal.

Delighted to announce that we have won, and that the Planning Inspectorate has REJECTED Quorum's appeal to extend the Bredbury Parkway estate deep into the Tame Valley.

Thanks to @StockportMBC for pulling out all the stops for my request to get the town hall lit up 🇺🇦. Stockport Ukrainian Club turned up in their droves - and sang the Ukrainian national anthem on the steps. A tear was shed.

What happened to Keir Starmer tonight outside parliament is appalling. It is really important for our democracy & for his security that the false Savile slurs made against him are withdrawn in full.

✍️ On the eve of the 70th anniversary of her Accession to the throne, The Queen has written a message thanking the public and her family for their support, and looking forward to #PlatinumJubilee celebrations over the coming year. #HM70

This year The Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, marking 7⃣0⃣ years as Monarch.

To begin the celebrations, Her Majesty viewed a selection of cards, letters and artwork sent to her by children and other members of the public to mark this, and previous, Jubilees.

I am so thrilled to become Patron of the @TheRFL and @EnglandRugby 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏉

Two fantastic organisations who are committed to harnessing the power that sport can have in bringing communities together and helping individuals flourish.

The smear made against Keir Starmer relating to Jimmy Saville yesterday is wrong & cannot be defended. It should be withdrawn. False and baseless personal slurs are dangerous, corrode trust & can't just be accepted as part of the cut & thrust of parliamentary debate.
