I have been calling for an end for Friday releases for a while now. Around a third of offenders leave prison on a Friday, giving them an extremely limited time to sort out accommodation and arrange job support before services shut down for the weekend.

Today the Chancellor unveiled a Plan for a Stronger Economy, outlining a £37 billion package of support to help families with the cost of living as we grow our economy.
Alongside the action we’ve already taken this year today's measures will ensure:
The vast majority of households receive £550.
Pensioners receive £850.
And almost all of the eight million most vulnerable households will receive support of at least £1,200.
Watch 👇
We will send a one-off £650 cost of living payment directly to around eight million of the lowest income households.
Worth over £5 billion, there will be no need for people to fill out forms – we will send the payment straight into bank accounts.
