For the first time in 17 years, government will review how every pound of tax payers money is being spent.

In the spending review, we will make sure public spending delivers our Plan for Change.

✅ Strong new powers to tackle public sector fraud
✅ Turbocharge the fight against welfare fraud
✅ Double the time limit for COVID fraud claims

Today I spoke with the Chancellor about progress on the exciting proposal to bring Universal Studios to Bedford.

The project has huge potential for our region.

While she couldn't go into detail as talks are ongoing, things look positive!

I will share updates in due course 👀

We are tripling the emergency funding from £10 million to £30 million to help more rough sleepers off the streets.

This will help the most vulnerable into safe and secure housing with warm beds, hot meals, and specialist care.

The Government has tripled funding to local authorities to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping.

In Bedford, we see far too many people being forced to sleep rough.

If you or anyone you know needs help, I urge you to reach out for help via http://www.bedford.gov.uk/housing/homelessness-and-temporary-accommodation

🚨 We’re giving councils an extra £20 million to protect those sleeping rough.

❄️The cold winter months can be extra hard for those rough sleeping and this money will help provide extra beds.

The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel is an important but fragile moment of hope. We must work to secure peace. Only then can the rebuilding begin.

Today, I asked @DavidLammy to back a lasting peace & two-state solution, as well as help get vital aid to Gaza.

Lord Ken Clarke: "Rachel Reeves is a perfectly intelligent, serious woman... so you can't blame the first 6 months of the Labour government for the problems we now face..."

I am pleased Bedford Borough will benefit from £1.2m of £57m funding Government pledged last week, to support Start for Life services to families with babies from pregnancy up to the age of two. This is on top of £69m in the Budget for a new network of family hubs. #StartForLife

I was very pleased to vote for the Renters' Rights Bill yesterday, to make renting fairer and more affordable for tenants.

The Bill will:

❌End no-fault evictions
💷Stop renters being ripped off by upfront payments
🏠Protect tenants from damp and mould

Labour is taking action to protect renters where the Tories shamefully failed.

Our Renters’ Rights Bill will deliver new protections for 11 million private tenants.

I was pleased to welcome ⁦@DianaJohnsonMP⁩, Policing Minister, to Bedford. ⁦@YasinForBedford⁩ joined us in the town. We met retailers to hear about their experience of retail crime. The Minister and I are committed to tackling this crime and enhancing local policing.

Today @SKinnock and I announce the biggest funding for hospices in a generation:

£100 million for improving buildings, kit and technology

£26 million grant for children and young people’s hospices

An early Christmas present for hospices that do a wonderful job for families.

Driving home for Christmas? Labour’s got you covered:

✅ £1.6 billion boost to repair roads
✅ Freezing fuel duty
✅ Tackling out-of-control car insurance premiums
