Our friend and colleague Dame Deborah James has died.

She created an incredible legacy: breaking the poo taboo and raising awareness of bowel cancer.

We are heartbroken, and our condolences are with her family.

Shoe Black Brigades provided employment and accommodation for homeless and destitute boys. They were allocated pitches by the police, their earnings were paid to the home each day, ⅓ of the money for thier keep. ⅓ into a bank account for them and ⅓ given back to them.

On the night of June 1, 1942, the German Luftwaffe descended on Canterbury, carpeting it with bombs.
Two days earlier the RAF, had destroyed 85% of Cologne following an intensive bombing campaign of German cities & Hitler was out for revenge.
