The problem in a nutshell. When morally right move for 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 clashes with politically expedient for rUK, latter always take precedence. We should be political equals and work together as Indy countries on that basis.
(This not directed @IanDunt btw - I think he’s great)

Ian Dunt @IanDunt

Morally, this is wrong. The SNP and Greens have a mandate for another referendum. But politically, it is surely the correct approach.

The Scottish Government currently spends millions to mitigate the worst excesses of Tory welfare and economic policies. Don’t wag the finger at us and talk about enabling people to ‘live well’ whilst your government hounds, bullies and snatches support from the most vulnerable.

Penny Mordaunt @PennyMordaunt

Spot on from @andrealeadsom. We should all be focussed on economic growth and enabling people to live well.

Just for context, these are 2 politicians who embrace the economic & political disaster of #Brexit , have never stood for election in Scotland & whose party hasn’t won an election here since 1955. They also refuse to allow Scotland to discuss & decide on such issues. #Hypocrisy

Good luck to them. But I note that any time an SNP politician even approaches an airport, this lot lose their minds. International engagement is normal and should be so for all parties.

EU, US & UK members of the #UN Security Council condemn in the "strongest terms" the killing of civilians from recent missile attacks by #Russia in #Ukraine, particularly on the "crowded" #KremenchukMall

This is a really interesting development in terms of the Scottish Government’s foreign policy footprint - - & in particular that this work is, this time, done in cooperation with the UK Government

Scottish Government Finance Secretary ⁦@_KateForbes⁩ announces £65m in military aid for the Ukrainian armed forces. This follows £7m for humanitarian and medical support. Great to see ⁦@scotgov⁩ backing Ukraine’s armed forces 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇦

If you're shocked that Russia is lying about bombing a mall that was literally caught on camera you clearly have not been paying attention to their near-decade long campaign of trying to convince people that Syrian civilians gassed themselves.

Edinburgh Labour councillors have been suspended from the party for not backing their grubby deal with the Tories. Another embarrassing episode for Anas Sarwar and Scottish Labour. #VoteLabourGetTory

This is a clip from a debate during the 2014 independence campaign in Scotland. We were told that UK membership of the EU wasn’t at risk. It was false. Now the only way for Scotland to be in the EU is with independence. It works well for other countries. #WhyNotScotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇪🇺

Nothing grubby or back room about a cooperation agreement that was negotiated over time, published transparently and was subject to parliamentary approval - a normal practice all over Europe.

The deal between the Conservatives & DUP was indeed back door and subject to no vote.

She had to do a "grubby backroom deal" with the Greens to get her majority

As ever, this debate will be better conducted if everyone who intends on involving themselves can do some basic fact checking before they publish falsehoods.

Salmond didn't say the referendum had been settled for a generation, Cameron did.

"The issue of independence cannot be suppressed. It must be resolved democratically. And that must be through a process that is above reproach and commands confidence.”

A clarifying statement from @NicolaSturgeon. The voters have given our parliament a mandate for a referendum and the First Minister has laid out the road for that to lawfully take place. The UK Government must now respect Scottish democracy. Let the people decide 19.10.23 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇪🇺
