Great to meet with @GMPWigan today to discuss local policing - including the new A49 link road & ASB - thanks to Emily Higham for the update and the police officers and PCSOs who work so hard on our behalf.

Today is #NursesDay and I am proud to support @theRCN in showcasing the #BestofNursing.
Nurses across #Wigan and the country have played an incredible part in looking after us all when we've needed it most - especially over the last two years.
Thank you for everything you do.

🛍 In the UK, online marketplaces are not bound by the same safety laws as High Street retailers.

💥This creates a loophole in which dangerous goods can be bought and sold on these sites.

UKRAINIAN DISPLAY VANDALISED/MORRIS STREET
Sad to have to report this morning the solidarity display we put up in Hindley as a show of support to the Ukrainian people has been vandalised overnight. @paulbart42 @Y_FovargueMP @MakerfieldCLP @CllrKlieve @mickhannan476

Under the Conservatives, people are working hard and getting less.

Britain deserves better. Labour would cut energy bills by up to £600, scrap the National Insurance rise and make homes warmer.

Vote Labour on Thursday 5 May.

The Conservative in Leigh are sharing posts to say our council tax would be cheaper under their leadership.
This is a lie.

Wigan Council tax is the lowest in the North West - and Labour Councils are an average of £300 cheap that Conservative Councils.

24,000 people wrote to their MP, demanding the government follow through with its promised legislation to #ProtectCash.

We urge @JohnGlenUK to protect communities who rely on cash and face-to-face banking services, by ensuring this legislation is included in the Queen's Speech.

Many thanks to @Y_FovargueMP, @kevinhollinrake MP and debt charity, @StepChange for brilliant contributions to @TSB's Tackling Fraud Together report.

A sobering moment today at @CitizensAdvice. We've had to add a top tier category in our data for people needing foodbanks. Not something we do lightly but the growth in destitution is now systemic enough to need it. Foodbanks now rank fourth in the advice we give.

Experts predict energy bills will stay well above £2000 into winter 2023/24 - by then we'll also be paying back the govt's energy rebate.

More & more evidence that a 'buy now pay later' support scheme won't work - needs to be a grant.

Ahead of the local Council elections on 5th May, our friends @dropthedebt have provided an easy way for people to e-mail their councillors and ask them to commit to banning the use of bailiffs for Council Tax collection - https://act.jubileedebt.org.uk/councils-ban-bailiffs

From today people on prepayment meters who run out of money and disconnect themselves from electricity or gas will find their electric meter will still be ticking up at £3.53 a week standing charge and the gas meter at £2.62 – £6.15 a week to be without heat, light, or cooking.

Thanks to all who attended our reception at the House of Lords this week, in particular the PM's Trade Envoy to Libya @Y_FovargueMP, the Libyan Ambassador to the UK HE Salah Mrehil, and @DavidJonesMP Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Libya.

And get well soon Robin!

Delighted to meet the PM’s trade envoy to #Libya ⁦@Y_FovargueMP⁩ at yesterday’s reception for members of the Libya British Business Council. We look forward to working with her to promote UK/Libya trade relations ⁦@LBBCnews⁩

💡If you've got a non-smart prepayment meter, top up your meter as much as you can before March 31st to stockpile your energy credit.
