What has Stephen Kinnock been up to today?
Stephen Kinnock is MP for Aberavon and a member of the Labour party.

Boris Johnson's #BacklogBritain cannot be blamed on Covid, or hard working public sector staff.
It is a result of:
A.) A decade of Tory under-investment, meaning our economy & public services lacked resilience going into pandemic.
B.) Poor planning for end of lockdown surge.
Labour has tonight told the Tories to get a grip on Boris Johnson's #BacklogBritain.
Even before the pandemic NHS waiting lists and the court backlogs had reached record highs - due to low growth & under-investment.
Now patients can't get operations & victims can't get justice.
Wearing the meno-vest today was an experience I won’t forget in a hurry as it really helped me to understand what the hot flush feels like.
Many thanks to the amazing @carolynharris24 and @overthebmoon @Theramex for raising awareness and campaigning on this vital issue.
Today felt really special. It was an opportunity to get colleagues like the wonderful @SKinnock to step into the shoes of what 51% of the population will go through. By breaking down these barriers and stigmas we hope to really change the workplace and society for the better

As a patriot, I am proud that people and Govts around the world see Britain as a law-abiding country.
But last night we had to sit & listen to Ministers defend the NI Protocol Bill which destroys an international treaty that the PM described as “an excellent deal” 2 yrs ago.
Cracking piece by @justinmadders The government’s plan to use agency workers as strike-breakers is unworkable, reckless and opposed by unions, businesses and employment agencies alike. Ministers shd be doing their job and negotiating, rather than deliberately inflaming tensions.
Instead of trying to resolve the rail dispute, the Tories are using it as another excuse to attack trade unions. Check out @justinmadders piece for @LabourList
https://labourlist.org/2022/06/breaking-strikes-using-agency-workers-is-recklessly-gambling-with-public-safety/
. @JoStevensLabour is absolutely right. The UK Tory government is not only trying to ride roughshod over workers’ rights, they are also launching a full-scale attack on devolution. Yet again they pick fights and sow division rather than seek workable solutions.
Businesses, agency worker bodies and working people don’t want the Tory Government to scrap the agency worker ban. It’ll be unworkable. So the Government now picks another unnecessary fight combining attacking Senedd law and eroding legal rights in Wales. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-61957466

After re-taking Wakefield last week, Labour is a Government in waiting.
Meanwhile this Tory Government is out of touch and out of ideas.
Here is my summary of Labour's plan for jobs and growth:
Another day, and yet another example of the utterly shambolic state of Priti Patel’s performance as Home Secretary. British taxpayers are paying through the nose for this breathtaking incompetence. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/home-secretary-priti-patel-breaks-27328651
Whilst Boris Johnson picks fights & feeds off division the British people are crying out for a Labour government that will unite the country around a project for national renewal. Keir’s message this morning on possible snap GE is clear: bring it on👍 👍 https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/jun/26/labour-has-now-claimed-the-centre-ground-and-has-shown-it-can-win
Britain’s armed forces are the best in the world — today, on #ArmedForcesDay, we thank both those serving and our veterans for their service.
Small & Medium Sized Enterprises are the backbone of British economy, driving innovation & creating jobs.
But they are currently being suffocated by a mountain of red tape, caused by this Tory Govt's botched Brexit deal.
I asked @Jacob_Rees_Mogg how Govt are helping SMEs:

Is this guy for real??
68 quid visa to work in Spain for 2 days !
Didn't see that on the side of the bleedin' bus.
This high tax, low growth government has failed to get inflation & cost of living under control, meaning workers are seeing wages stagnate & household budgets squeezed.
Govt must provide a fair deal for workers and a package of policies to promote economic growth.
It’s been amazing to see the development of the club over the years, it’s a fantastic resource for our community @trefelinbgc @CllrSaif https://twitter.com/CllrSaif/status/1539235079674789890
Pleased to have been able to support @trefelinbgc, keep up the good work you all do for our community. @Green1Stephen @FreeguardSharon @FAWales

Yet another damning report on the deeply damaging impact of Boris Johnson’s botched Brexit. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/workers-real-pay-cut-470-27293183
My office has been inundated by people with a similar story to Medwen - waiting more than 10 weeks for a Passport; causing missed holidays and a significant loss of hard-earned money.
Severe backlogs are at the heart of this crisis at the Passport Office.

From staffing the NHS to building our national infrastructure, the Windrush generation worked so hard & contributed so much to Britain.
In return Tory Govt treated them w/ disdain. The compensation scheme must be removed from the Home Office. Time to end the hostile environment
The Windrush generation helped build Britain.
But the Tories' hostile environment left many homeless, jobless and without healthcare. Victims are still waiting for the justice and compensation they deserve.
Windrush descendent @DavidLammy tells their story. #WindrushDay
Tory Govt’s failure to plan means our already underfunded public services are in crisis mode.
Everywhere you look our country is bogged down in delays & chaos.

Rwanda plan isn't deterring migrants and is eye-wateringly expensive.
Instead Labour would:
🌍 Partner with countries close to war zones to process apps outside UK.
🇬🇧 Negotiate security partnerships & returns agreements.
⬆️ Return to pre-Patel speed for asylum processing.

The Rwanda policy is unworkable, and the Rwanda threat is clearly not deterring people from crossing the channel - 700 this week.
It is also incredibly expensive for the tax player.
Here's Labour's approach:
Proud to stand up for the UK steel industry in Parliament today.
The Tories need to stop dragging their feet and extend vital steel safeguards to save steel jobs and communities.
I’m backing the @DailyMirror #SaveOurSteel Campaign. https://twitter.com/benglaze/status/1537365371551993857

Jo would bounce into the office we used to share in Parliament, fizzing with ideas and buzzing with enthusiasm about her latest project or campaign. She exuded energy, love and friendship in everything she did, and in everything she said, every single day of her life ❤️
Six years ago our colleague and friend, Jo Cox, was murdered.
In Jo’s memory we continue to look ahead with a belief that the world she believed in so passionately remains within our grasp.
“We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.”
Home Sec knows her policy is unworkable, unethical & cd make trafficking worse.
Yet she chartered a plane she never expected to fly & wrote Rwanda a £120m cheque because she just wants a row & someone else to blame.
Its Government by gimmick. Our country is better than this
The Rwanda policy is unworkable, and the Rwanda threat is clearly not deterring people from crossing the channel - 700 this week.
It is also incredibly expensive for the tax player.
Here's Labour's approach:
"Labour will stop this policy. We will campaign to stop it now"
Shadow immigration minister Stephen Kinnock says Rwanda asylum plan is "unworkable, it is profoundly wrong and it is extortionately expensive"
https://bbc.in/3xRbvRs
.@YvetteCooperMP on Rwanda: “There is no point in the Government blaming anyone else but themselves. They have pushed ahead with a policy they knew was unworkable, unethical, and incredibly expensive because they just wanted a row and someone else to blame.”

From court cases, to hospital waiting lists, to passports - everywhere you look our country is bogged down in delays and chaos.
The year is 2022, and this is Boris Johnson's #BacklogBritain.
People are worried about the future and lack the confidence to spend.
We need more than just sticking plasters - but the Tories are refusing to learn lessons or plan ahead after 12 years of demolishing our economy.
That's why Labour will build a stronger, more secure economy.
