Liz Truss says she’s against “handouts”.
Not when it comes to corporations! Don’t forget the billions of pounds wasted on crony contracts during Covid, or the tax breaks for big business.
She’s happy to hand over money to shareholders but not to struggling families.
The TUC has pointed out that it would cost around £2.8bn to buy the big five energy retailers at their current market value – that’s about the same amount the Tory government has spent bailing out just one failed provider, Bulb.
The Conservative Party has taken off its mask.
When they think no one is looking they admit “levelling up” was a lie.

The Government’s energy regulator announces they will change the price cap every 3 rather than 6 months.
Let’s be clear, this is so they can raise bills even more quickly.
People cannot afford another rise. The price cap should be lowered immediately.
Rishi Sunak is asking oil companies to pass on falls in the cost of petrol to consumers at the pumps.
These companies have shown that when given the chance they will rob the public blind to line their pockets.
Don't ask them to do it, make them to do it. It's time for action.
There are reports today that inflation (RPI) could hit 17.7% by the end of the year.
This isn’t being driven by wages–they’re stagnant. It’s driven by the rampant profiteering of corporations.
We need a Government that will stand up to corporations & get markets under control.

Supporting the right to strike is NO big deal.
Supporting the workers in dispute is something entirely different.
And for the record I’m proud to stand on picket lines with Strikers NOT for photo Opps NOR sentiment but for SOLIDARITY ✊️✊️✊️✊️
Tories plan lower pay for civil servants in poorer areas
•It’s the end of levelling up rhetoric
• Full-on attack on the North
• if you think its ‘only civil servants’, you are wrong
• They are coming for you too
New Statesman quotes Starmer’s ‘allies’ being “against above inflation pay rises”
The key though is to push against:
•price rip-offs;
•escalating profits;
•outrageous exec pay; and,
•obscene levels of personal and corporate wealth.
Tory leadership frontrunner, Liz Truss, plans to cut public sector wages and pay workers in the North less than those in the South East.
This may be considered a ‘vote winner’ with Tory Party members.
But it will provoke disgust from working people—especially in the North.
People simply cannot afford another rise in energy bills. It’s time for the energy companies to take the hit instead.
The energy price cap should be lowered immediately. Protect people, not corporate profits.
‘Trade unions must work together and establish key goals and standards they all support 100 per cent. The key messages have to be linked and the time to build powerful alliances is now.’

The magnificent ribblehead viaduct viewed towards The slopes up to Ingleborough
#Yorkshire
On this Yorkshire day I took this photo from the lower slopes of Whernside above the ribblehead viaduct toward Ingleborough
The Lobbying Act freed up lobbyists whilst silencing trade unions and campaigners.
Now there is an inquiry into the legislation… but only looking at the lobbying part.
For the sake of our democracy, we need to get rid of the constraints it imposes on civil society.
Government departments spent £35.7 million on entertaining over the past 3 years, my office has found.
It’s breathtaking that such astronomical sums of taxpayers money was spent on wining and dining during a period that included Covid restrictions.

I have submitted an Early Day Motion to the House of Commons to mark Yorkshire Day 2022.

Greetings on Yorkshire Day
One of life’s little pleasures, gifted to us by Twitter, is the occasional 20 mins spent muting egregious, normally Tory, trolls.
Well argued disagreement respected; abuse muted.
Dignified statement by a top guy.

My initial statement on West Derby MP Reselection process:
Great news from @unitetheunion that the #CovBinStrike has ended in success.
Strong & resilient campaign from @randle_pete and his colleagues.
Well done to you all, fighting a fight that should and could have been resolved without the need for industrial action.

Many thanks to the brilliant @jon_trickett for lending his support to our candidates! Read why Jon is backing our campaign for the NPF here:
Hit profits, not households.
Cut bills by lowering the energy price cap.
End profiteering by taking public ownership of our energy system.
The cost of living crisis is set to worsen in the coming months as household bills are set to soar.
Let's talk about this 👇
https://trib.al/V7Kfm1y
Centrica/British Gas profits up by 411% to £1.34 billion.
Shareholders are laughing all the way to the bank whilst workers and consumers suffer.
There’s a clear solution with public support: Kick out the profiteers, take energy into public ownership for the benefit of all.

The Conservative Party exists to protect elite wealth and privilege.
The labour movement exists to protect working people.
Which side are you on?
Solidarity with my comrade @SamTarry
Sam Tarry says: “It has been a privilege to serve on Labour's front bench for the past two years and to have had the opportunity to speak up for hard-pressed workers who deserve so much better than the treatment they’ve received from this corrupt and out-of-touch government.
The Tory austerity years gave workers the longest period of wage stagnation since the Napoleonic Wars.
Now the Tory cost of living crisis is giving workers the largest fall in household income since records began.
Workers have had enough. They demand a fair slice of the pie.
Unite members have been out across our region supporting RMT members who are striking today in defence of their jobs, pay and conditions.
There are 177 billionaires in the UK with a combined fortune of £710 billion.
A tax on their wealth could be used to rebuild our public services and pay workers properly, to grow a green economy and improve the life chances of millions.
We cannot let greed stand in our way.
Truss and Sunak branded ‘Thatcher tribute acts’ after threatening the right to strike http://ow.ly/Y7sS50K4zbb
This is why we need a pay rise.
It's not coincidental that workers are suffering unprecedented real terms pay cuts at a time when corporations are making bumper profits.
These things go hand in hand.
When trade union members go on strike they're fighting against a rigged system that exploits all workers.
Congratulations to @UniteNEYH members at Arriva in Yorkshire. They fought back and they won

There we have it.
Research from @IPPRNorth finds that the gap in public spending between London and the North has DOUBLED since the Tories promised to “level up”.
A big fat Tory Con all along.
Tory leadership contenders have pledged to remove rail workers’ right to strike.
This extreme Thatcher tribute act won’t wash with the millions of people suffering real terms wage cuts.
If they come for rail workers’ rights today, it will be other workers’ rights tomorrow.
