The Tories have appointed yet another donor to a senior government job.

John Booth, who has given their party over £200k, will now be in charge of deciding who gets honours in the arts and media industries.

Crony Britain, where money buys power.

As Tory privatisation of the NHS has accelerated since 2012, the number of patients dying of treatable causes has “significantly increased” - according to analysis published in The Lancet.

It is a moral duty to take back control of our NHS from the greedy profiteers.

Whilst everyone else is feeling the cost of living pinch, UK investment trusts have given out record dividends of £5.5 billion

Driven by venture capital, infrastructure & property, they have seen a 15% increase on last year

I will say it again - we need a wealth tax now.

The @RMTunion has shown what strong leadership and clarity of message can do to public opinion.

Good leadership is about being a signpost, not a weathervane.

The Government’s own climate advisors have said our country is heading for failure in its plans to limit climate change.

This is what happens with a Conservative Government that’s in the pocket of fossil fuel companies.

The working class is under attack from above. We must show solidarity with the workers who are fighting back.

My great grandmother, Mary Maude Fitzgerald, died from an illegal, unsafe abortion. Her widower, Thomas Fitzgerald, an itinerant worker, couldn’t raise their 3 kids alone & sent them off to families that took them as servants. He died alone of TB in a work camp. #WeWillNotGoBack https://twitter.com/RATMofficial/status/1540518329621921792

Rage Against The Machine @RATMofficial

This week the Tory govt:

1. failed to negotiate with the RMT & attacked working people striking over jobs & the safety of our railways

2. were perfectly happy to negotiate a free trade deal with a number of countries called out for human rights abuses

To confirm - I have just served notice on behalf of @CWUnews on Royal Mail notifying of our intention to ballot for Industrial Action, ballot papers due to go out Tuesday 28th June 2022 @DaveWardGS

Yesterday I paid tribute to the people I represent and called on the govt to do more for areas like mine.

Today I led a debate in the Commons about how my area, South East Wakefield, has been held back by a decade of austerity, huge public service cuts & a lack of investment.

There's an alternative & it's rooted in our local communities. Watch here in full: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKR_mSCqH7k

Workers are experiencing the biggest fall in living standards since records began.

Is it any wonder that trade unions are taking action?

They are the best shield that workers have.

To avoid any doubt I will support the pickets tomorrow.
Railway workers kept the country moving during Covid - as did many others - we owe them respect, thanks, and decent treatment.

The number of 65-year-olds in poverty increased by 100,000 after the Tories raised the state pension age from 65 to 66, according to the IFS.

The Tory plan to raise the pension age to 67 in 2026 should be scrapped, immediately.

Some things we learned today:

•BoJo apparently thought his “friend” was worth £100k pa

•But that most nurses, teachers, railway workers are worth less than half that

• Hardly surprising that the fightback is starting

"Oil and gas companies have handed out almost £200 billion to shareholders since 2010... this money could have been used to cut bills and invest in a cheaper, renewable energy supply."

@jon_trickett tackles the corporate greed behind the #energycrisis.

Who supports public ownership of energy?

According to polls:
• 59% of all adults
• 60% of adults who voted Conservative in 2019
• 68% of voters in the ‘red wall’ constituencies of the North and Midlands

Privatisation has ushered in intense profiteering by big energy corporations, as shown by their historic profits in the last year.

They are pushing price rises onto customers in order to line the pockets of their already super-rich shareholders.

The Tory Government is in hock to the fossil fuel industry.

That’s why they’re refusing to take the action needed to meet global climate change targets.

The living standards of working people are falling through the floor whilst the wealth of the richest goes through the roof.

Only a radical economic transformation will do. That must start with a wealth tax.

UK pay is falling at the fastest rate in more than a decade.

The 2010s was already the worst period of wage stagnation since the Napoleonic wars.

Workers have been fleeced for more than a decade under Tory rule.

The Levelling Up Bill will do nothing to reverse decades of deindustrialisation.

The only way to build lasting change is a radical economic transformation.

Almost two-thirds of Yorkshire and Humber constituencies are yet to receive levelling up cash.

13 of the 20 most deprived parts of the region among those to miss out.

Thank you to @yorkshirepost for publishing our research.

Four in 10 of the mutual aid groups set up during Covid lockdown are still active helping people cope with the cost of living crisis.

The spirit of solidarity is strong in our country. But it’s suppressed by a Government that prioritises corporate greed over human need.

Those british centrists who want break the Left by emulating Macron need to take a look at the first round Legislative results in France this evening.
Vive l’unité de la gauche et les ecologistes!

On the picket line with striking @UniteNEYH members at the Arriva Bus Depot in Wakefield.

Every worker deserves good pay, dignity and respect.

Delighted to be joined by @HackneyAbbott & @BellRibeiroAddy

Another reminder of how our NHS is under threat.

‘Secretive’ big US company, co-founded by a prominent Trump supporter, is poaching senior staff from the NHS to help it win a lucrative contract.

The revolving door between the govt, public services & the big corps keeps turning.

Since 2010 the Tories have cut nearly £12 billion from English local councils.

The levelling up fund for England is worth £4 billion.

It doesn't take a mathematician to see that the numbers (and the rhetoric) don't add up!

A note of everyday in the campaign.

Research by my office has found that the ‘Levelling up’ money awarded by the government in England isn’t reaching the places that need it most.
