With more focus on the proposed plans for HS2 in Manchester, I’ve laid out a quick summary of what’s happening right now in the constituency – including a factsheet for residents and information on a local event on the 16th of July

Very pleased that thanks to our campaign, photographing or recording women breastfeeding without their consent has been made illegal. Grateful to my constituent @julia_c_cooper for speaking out about her experiences. #StopTheBreastPest

2/2 and good to hear Masai Mara elder Boniface debunk the myths that trophy hunting is somehow helping “conservation”. It’s time to protect animals from the trade in trophy hunting with a full UK ban

Pleased to attend the launch of a new report of the All Party Group on Banning Trophy Hunting and support a ban on this dreadful practice 1/2

I was delighted to support Carers Week earlier this month. We need a long-term vision to put social care on an equal footing with the NHS, at the heart of a modernised welfare state.

Over the last year, FareShare supplied the equivalent of 303,400 meals in to 18 local charities in Manchester Withington, by supplying them with 127.4 tonnes of food.

I’m supporting their bid for the government to renew their funding

Great to see the Three Ways to Save a Life campaign starting up in Manchester with new first aid sessions for the public

Are you eligible for Pension Credit? Check to see if you’re applicable for a top-up retirement income

Thanks to all who signed Angela Gartside’s petition urging the Tories to address the cost of living crisis and keep energy bills down. The Government has committed to some new measures but people need more support and long-term solutions to the crisis.

This week I'm proud to support #CervicalScreeningAwarenessWeek

Cervical screening (smear tests) can save lives, but 1 in 3 do not attend when invited.

If you have any questions or concerns, @JoTrust have information, tips, and support for you.

I recently met with the #FrontofMind campaign team to discuss the importance of prompt diagnosis for people with dementia and their carers. We need to see improvements so that everybody affected by dementia can access vital services – wherever they live.

This month’s West Didsbury Makers Market is on this Sunday!

When @JeffSmithetc met with @loretocitizens Year 9 this morning he asked the class “Who is in favour of #VotesAt16?”

The results are in!

✅ 70.59% were in favour
❌ 29.41% were against

Thank you for taking part & sharing your opinions everyone 🙂 #youthempowerment

The Windrush generation helped build Britain.

But the Tories' hostile environment left many homeless, jobless and without healthcare. Victims are still waiting for the justice and compensation they deserve.

Windrush descendent @DavidLammy tells their story. #WindrushDay

If you hear @BorisJohnson talk about jobs today at #pmqs, it is quite likely to be nonsense:

This week is #CervicalScreeningAwarenessWeek!

Cervical screening (smear tests) can save lives, but they aren't always easy for everyone.

Follow @JoTrust this week to learn more about the test, #CervicalScreeningTips that might make it easier, and where you can find support

Ministers are failing Afghans who supported our Armed Forces.

With only 2 out of 3,000 cases processed in two months, the Government is simply not dealing with ARAP applications fast enough. Ministers must fix this scheme.

Manchester and the north need HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail. But the Government is wrong to reject plans for an underground station at Manchester Piccadilly, which would improve connectivity and boost our economy. I hope they’ll think again.

Visiting NATO Allied Maritime Command, I spoke to our troops about the situation in Ukraine and the need to bolster Britain’s defence and security at home and abroad.

Labour’s commitment to NATO is unshakeable. We stand with our allies against Putin's illegal war in Ukraine.

2 years on from the Cumberlege Review report, the Government continue to deny real justice for those affected by the Primodos, sodium valproate and pelvic mesh scandals.

We urgently need an independent redress agency for the victims.

Scammers are likely to take advantage of the cost of living crisis and the pressure on people’s finances. I’ve set out some tips from Citizen’s Advice to help protect consumers #ScamAwarenessFortnight

There are just 40 days to go until the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. It’s an honour for the UK to be able to host once again.

Swim England want to hear from ethnically-diverse communities about their experiences of swimming, with the aim of helping to make water-based activity more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Deadline to fill in their survey 21 June #ManchesterSwims 🏊🏿

Looking forward to Manchester Day on Sunday 19th – the first one since 2019. The parade starts at 1pm by Beetham Tower.

Six years ago our friend Jo Cox was tragically murdered.

Jo’s legacy is one of hope:

“We are far more united and have far more in common that that which divides us.”

In Jo’s memory, we hold the belief that a more equal world is possible.

The Whyte Report’s findings about British Gymnastics are shocking and distressing, revealing systemic physical and emotional abuse. My thoughts are with all those who've experienced abuse in the sport. I sincerely thank those who bravely shared their experiences with the review.

Great to welcome the ⁦@UEFAcom Women’s Euros trophy to Parliament. Looking forward to the tournament in July, and great news that the BBC ⁦⁩ is showing every game live. An exciting summer for women’s football! ⁦@BBCSport⁩

I just asked the Minister Michael Ellis to confirm at despatch box that the government has no plans to abolish the post of Independent Adviser on Ministerial Interests.
He avoided the question…

I am delighted to hear that @Afrocatsmcr has been awarded a grant of £79k to reduce barriers for refugees, people seeking asylum and young people facing social exclusion living across the Withington area. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Six years ago our colleague and friend, Jo Cox, was murdered.

In Jo’s memory we continue to look ahead with a belief that the world she believed in so passionately remains within our grasp.

“We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.”

Germany hosts some 2m refugees, the UK hosts about 173k. Yet public services in Germany are not in crisis and housing is less dysfunctional than in Britain. Refugees, the ECHR, human rights lawyers etc are *not* the problem.

📺 Selling off Channel 4 is not just the wrong thing to do as a patriot or for nostalgic reasons, it’s also disastrous for our world-renowned creative economy.

Channel 4 - like the BBC - is fundamental to the foundations of our global success. We flog it off at our peril.

Jeff Smith MP @JeffSmithetc, Shadow #Sport Minister, tells us that it is vital to get young people engaged in sport early. He says it is important that sporting facilities are funded #NCAPPG #Culture

Many thanks to @JeffSmithetc MP for stopping by our drop-in event and chatting to @DrRachelWardGP about how MPs can help #RebuildGP. #RGPatParliament @manchesterlmc01

It was great to meet with the Mental Health Awareness Foundation to mark Loneliness Awareness Week, to highlight the impact loneliness can have on mental health and to reduce stigma against it.

The government’s decision to sell off Channel 4 -one of Britain’s cultural crown jewels -will kill off our film industry and cost jobs and businesses in the regions and nations.

My ⁦⁦@yorkshirepost⁩ article on Labour’s debate today in Parliament

It has been five years since 72 people were killed by a fire at Grenfell Tower.

The appalling tragedy is evidence of the unequal society we live in under this Tory government.

Today we remember the victims and demand action to ensure a similar tragedy can never happen again.

Amazing turn out today thank you to Tracey @Morrisons we are happy to say we have raised £470 today.
@lynnebaird8 @AndyBurnhamGM @GMPLongsight @JadeDoswelll @JeffSmithetc

Pleased to be asked to unveil the new bleed cabinet outside ⁦@Morrisons⁩ in Chorlton. Congratulations to everyone involved, and especially Kelly who’s now raised funding for 7 across Manchester in memory of Rhamero. And thanks to ⁦@stjohnambulance⁩ for the training

Lovely day for Didsbury Festival. Well done to all the ⁦@didsburyfest⁩ team for a great event. If you’re in Didsbury Park check out the beautiful wildflower meadow!
