Credit always where it’s due; and it’s due here. @peterkyle alongside @GRobinsonDUP worked hard on this hugely important issue. We saw thoughtful, grownup politics yesterday. Govt made right decision to accept the Peter’s amendment. Let’s see more of this xparty working
Working with MPs from all parties, government were forced to accept @UKLabour’s amendment preventing perpetrators of sexual violence during The Troubles from being given immunity.
It’s a small but important victory against the deeply flawed ‘legacy bill’.
@cathyby @Simon4NDorset @CommonsNIAC spent some time on the issue that UK government’s justification for the NI Protocol Bill would be undermined unless they have a guarantee from Sinn Fein as well as DUP they will both participate in the NI Executive if it is enacted @sylviademars
One other thing. If a Prime Minister with a majority of almost 80 bowled up to the palace only half-way through their term, with a parliamentary standards committee hot on their heels, and asked for an election I think the Queen might have something to say about it.
Amb @AdrianGONeill with @PlayhouseDerry following the staging of ‘The Crack In Everything’ in Westminster.
Drawing from all sides of the community, the play tells the stories of 6 families who experienced the killing of a child during the Troubles.

Embarrassing! I presumed, erroneously, that @peterkyle would speak a little longer than he did. Grateful thanks to @RobertBuckland for holding the fort pro tem and to @eleanor4epping for her forebearance
Caught short......@RobertBuckland steps in to save the missing (but returning) @Simon4NDorset's blushes...helped by @eleanor4epping 😊🚹
Just on a factual point the Bill still has: a) Committee; b) Report and; c) Third Reading in the Commons *before* it goes to the Lords
@Simon4NDorset @BrandonLewis @trussliz If Lewis and Truss completely ignored NI's majority support for the protocol before the bill passed why would they give a damn what you (who after a fine speech didn't vote against it) or anyone in NI has to say now it's passed to the HoL.
An interesting opening to the NI Affairs Ctte in which Prof Alan Boyle says the Protocol Bill doesn’t breach international law because of Art 16. But he is ‘aghast’ that HMG is citing necessity which amounts to an admission of a beach.
@jqmtweets @Simon4NDorset All of us need decent Conservative MPs like Simon to retain the whip, I trust him
You’ve not joined them up properly I’m afraid. Think about it in a longer term impact way
@Simon4NDorset The dots seem to write out the word cowards from where I’m sat. You had the opportunity to stand up for what is right but you bottled it because party and your roles are more important to you.
A really thought provoking production which came to Parliament yesterday delivered with skill and sensitivity. Huge thanks to @columeastwood for arranging. Food for thought as we begin the Committee Stage of Legacy Bill today
& please ask yourselves *why* we might have abstained and/or the consequences of doing otherwise and the implications that may have had. I’m not going to elaborate in public but the dots are quite easy to join
@RobWright126 @Sheardyweirdy @AdamBienkov @pimlicat @Simon4NDorset Yes, so I noted. As did May and Mitchell and others who spoke against the Bill.
Hope Ministers have a moment to read this. We should be concentrating on a) making adjustments via negotiation b) maximising the benefits of dual market access @BrandonLewis @trussliz
Majority of NI voters are in favour of the Protocol: poll
https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/majority-of-ni-voters-are-in-favour-of-the-protocol-poll-41800239.html
It suggests a majority in favour of the protocol. On the central question ‘The Protocol is a on balance good thing for NI’ it is 53% agree, 37% disagree, 10% neutral/ don’t know.
That’s the highest percentage for ‘Agree’ in this series:
March 2021 AGREE 43% DISAGREE 44%
June 2021 AGREE 43% DISAGREE 48%
October 21 AGREE 52% DISAGREE 41%
Feb 22 AGREE 50% DISAGREE 41%

Boris and Macron both trying to be distinctive here in their own ways:
Great to see you all and thank you @stjohnambulance for all you do to keep people safe + I now know how to use a defibrillator
Today members of @stjohnambulance were in the Market Place with the Mayor of Blandford Forum, Cllr Colin Stevens and his consort/wife, Chris Stevens and Simon Hoare MP.
The Mayor, Cllr Colin Stevens presented a Certificate of Appreciation to caretaker, John Scott this evening with today being 20 years since the start of his employment! Cllr Stevens congratulated John on this special anniversary and thanked him for his commitment and hard work.
Hats off to @theresa_may for speaking out on the NI Protocol bill, arguing the bill "is not legal under international law", "it will not achieve its aims" as it won't get the EU to change its stance, and it "diminishes the UK's standing in the world". Says she won't support it.
"I do not welcome this bill," says former prime minister Theresa May on the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill
She says the bill is not "legal under international law"
https://bbc.in/3A3Dijf
Conservative MP Simon Hoare says that if a Labour government were planning to break international law as the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill does they would all accuse them of "not being fit for government."
"For a Tory to have to point this out to fellow Tories is shameful."
I fear you speak for a growing number of people in NI. Not too late to change course but needs doing asap
Fuck it, I'm going to say it AGAIN & keep this tweet up this time.
I'm a moderate Unionist & I am fed up with the way NI is being taken 'forward' by some (the DUP, Jim, Jamie etc).
I'm proud to be from here but those people make me want to move away, when I get a chance.

Really sorry to see Oliver stand down as @Conservatives Chairman this morning. A thoroughly decent man.
An honourable letter from an honourable man. @OliverDowden is not to blame for these results. Since 2015 I have always been proud to call Oliver a friend. Never more so than today.
My letter of resignation to the Prime Minister.
