On this day 40 years ago, General Moore, reported to the Commander-in-Chief, “The Falkland Islands are once more under the Government desired by their inhabitants. God Save the Queen.” A fitting service in St Margaret’s Church to remember those who helped liberate the islands.

Forty years ago #OTD, British forces liberated the Falkland Islands. They had carried out that toughest of operations, an opposed amphibious assault, at a distance of 8,000 miles. Their victory restored freedom and democracy, not only to the Falklands, but also to Argentina.

It was my honour with my Consort to lay a wreath on the grave of RJ Mitchell, never forgotten by the City. @SpitfireSolent #spitfire
His bakery and his bread will be missed but not nearly as much as Graham. He is simply Mr Bitterne Park. https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/20202819.southampton-bakery-closes-nearly-50-years/
Let’s honour him and all who built and flew the iconic #spitfire
Reginald Joseph Mitchell led the team that designed the Spitfire at Supermarine in Woolston. It first flew in 1936.
Sadly, Mitchell would not live to see his iconic aircraft’s finest hour.

This is it in a nutshell. I suggest an article is interesting, no commentary, merely interesting and just look at the response.

The question I put to those who are trying to get rid of the PM is this. If not Boris then who? And if the next one isn’t your cup of tea either, do you start this whole thing all over again? We can’t go on like this.

Everyone is enjoying the last day of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. A fantastic weekend with so many highlights.
Had a lovely meal at George’s tonight. Michael George Hannides came here from Cyprus in 1936 with hardly a penny to his name. He eventually saved enough to buy the food license at the cafe he worked in, so, in 1940, he founded George’s. The restaurant is still run by his family.
Salute.
Where better to start the #PlatinumJubilee celebrations than with those who have served Her Majesty with such distinction, the Southampton Veterans Centre. Tracey and Colin (too busy to be in a Picture) are brilliant and have created the centre from scratch. Very proud of them.
👑 On the first day of the #PlatinumJubilee weekend and the anniversary of The Queen’s Coronation, we look back on Her Majesty’s life of service from her time as a young Princess supporting the war effort to her extraordinary commitment to her role as Monarch.
God save the Queen.
Never miss an opportunity to chat to people and hear what they think.
Views of Southampton’s Conservative MP on the #CityofCulture2025 decision yesterday. Southampton lost out to Bradford. Culture Sec Nadine Dorries said afterwards the award is part of the Govt’s levelling up agenda despite having panel of independent judges https://twitter.com/Royston_Smith/status/1531730668580921344
Congratulations Bradford on becoming #CityofCulture2025 Very disappointed for Southampton but the team have much to be proud of. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, levelling up is about opportunity not geography. This evening it looked like geography again. Not good enough.
Levelling up is not about geography, it’s about opportunity.
Southampton’s Conservative MP has blasted his own government over the levelling up agenda after the city failed to win City of Culture 2025. @Royston_Smith said it was all about geography not opportunity, calling the policy Levelling Up North. #CityofCulture2025

The title for UK City of Culture has been hotly contested and I’ve been so impressed by the quality of the bids.
However, there can only be one winner, and I’ll be announcing who that is live from Coventry on @BBCTheOneShow tonight. Can’t wait !

It’s been the greatest honour serving as Mayor and I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me. Southampton is the most wonderful place and I’m thankful to everyone who works so hard to make this city great.
We were thrilled to host the last official visit from the Mayor, @axhoughton before the new 800th Mayor is inaugurated today at the Mayor Making Ceremony in the Guildhall. The Mayor was invited to talk to the Academy Student Parliament as part of a series of external lectures.

We need to cut taxes and grow the economy. The first cut should be VAT on energy.
This is worth a read: “We learnt the hard way, prior to 1979, that you can’t spend your way out of debt. The only way is growth, and that is why we need a tax- and spending-reduction agenda.” https://www.conservativehome.com/platform/2022/05/eamonn-butler-consols-are-the-answer-to-our-covid-debt-problem-but-only-if-twinned-with-a-pro-growth-agenda.html
