On #ArmedForcesDay I want to honour all the men and women who are serving and who have served our country.

Thank you for your hard work, dedication and for keeping us safe.

It was brilliant to have @Google in Salisbury for their digital garage event for local businesses. I had been in discussions with them for quite some time to arrange the day so it was great to see it finally happen! (1/2)

Friends will be friends
When you're in need of love they give you care and attention
Friends will be friends
When you're through with life and all hope is lost
Hold out your hand 'cause friends will be friends
Right till the end.

Thank you, UK!

A pleasure to speak with @Moneybox this morning about the work the government & @SmCreditUnion are doing to pilot the No Interest Loans Scheme.

The scheme will enter a full pilot this Autumn - helping c.17,000 financially excluded people who need to deal with unexpected costs.

I welcome the Financial Action Taskforce’s decision to restrict Russia’s role & influence within the organisation.

Members made clear that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine represents a gross violation of our shared commitment to international cooperation & mutual respect.

The Consumer Credit Act has been in place since 1974 - and it needs to be modernised to keep pace with today's world.

That's why this morning I set out ambitious, long-term reform of the Act that will cut costs for businesses & simplify rules for people.

HM Treasury @hmtreasury

The government has committed to modernising the Consumer Credit Act - which regulates all UK credit card purchases and personal loans.

These reforms will cut costs for businesses and simplify rules for consumers.

Constituents across South Wiltshire are extremely frustrated that due to the RMT's reckless strike action, there are no trains running from Salisbury next Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. More disruption is expected to follow in the 24 hours immediately after each strike day (1/2)

Conservatives @Conservatives

Labour had the chance in Parliament to oppose a week of rail chaos. They refused to 👇

From 14 July, 8 million households will receive a £326 cost of living support payment.

This is the first of two instalments – totalling £650 – with the second to follow in the autumn, and part of the overall £1,200 support package for vulnerable households this year.

. @JohnGlenUK from @hmtreasury: “The North Sea transition deal sets out the commitments we’ve entered into with the oil and gas industry to invest in decarbonising existing projects and that’s through electrification in some cases…” #energy inquiry

Serving as Minister for Pensions and Financial Inclusion over the last five years has been the greatest honour of my professional life.

If we want our country to succeed, we need to do what we’ve always done and embrace new technologies, and the people and culture that creates them.

The people of Harnham West have a fantastic local candidate in Eleanor Wills - great to see the positive reaction to her refreshing approach to community ‘politics’

@rbrharrison @ChrisGiles_ @NIESRorg I would add that the transparency, regularity and predictability of the gilt market since the mid-1990s has reduced the cost of debt service considerably. In my experience, when HMT tries to outwit the market, there's only one winner.

@ChrisGiles_ @NIESRorg I'm afraid I think the whole line of argument is absurd. Why on earth should the government be seeking insurance from the private sector when the government is so much better placed to wear the risk? The Treasury isn't a hedge fund

I'm afraid I struggle to see validity in criticism being thrown at ChX/HMT today - based on NIESR alternative to QE unwind . Rather than protecting BoE independence, extending HMT's role beyond indemnifying QE losses wld undermine UK's macro framework🧵

The Treasury has inaccurately been accused of wasting billions of pounds. This is not true and the proposed measures come with huge economic risks and could undermine the Bank of England’s independence.

A short thread:

Today I met with businesses in 🇨🇭 renowned crypto valley.

The UK's approach to crypto regulation will enable firms to invest, scale and innovate on UK shores - while giving consumers the confidence they need to safely embrace this potentially transformative technology.

Building societies play a vital role in local communities, offering financial services to consumers across the UK.

Great to catch up with the Darlington Building Society yesterday to hear about their successful year and plans to serve consumers in the north east.

This week I've been working from the Darlington Economic Campus where I met new @hmtreasury staff and toured the fantastic future offices.

I also hosted a Treasury Connect at nearby @ThornLighting and popped out for lunch with @JohnGlenUK and @lucyfrazermp.

Very pleased @ChelseaFC is under new ownership, securing the future of the club.

Sanctioning Roman Abramovich for his links to Putin was right and necessary, but it did create profound uncertainty for the club. We have worked tirelessly to ensure Chelsea FC could survive. (1/2)

Our new Darlington Economic Campus is helping to level up opportunity in the region - with over 100 staff already in post.

@lucyfrazermp & I visited the fantastic Darlington Covered Market for a bite to eat while we work from the campus over the next couple of days!

Great pleasure to join the ⁦@Salisburymayor⁩ with Tim Shaw at The British Motor Show in Salisbury do come and enjoy until 5 pm today ! ⁦@SalisburyCC⁩

Great to be delivering my annual report and speaking to constituents with the campaign teams in Winterslow and Broadchalke today

In Downton this morning to meet with @JettingSystems. Great to be back after four years and hear about their strong order book, expansion opportunities, and how they are continuing to grow their exports. It's a fantastic firm and I'm proud to have them in the constituency.

1/2 Last night the Government issued a licence that permits the sale of @ChelseaFC. Given the sanctions we placed on those linked to Putin and the bloody invasion of Ukraine, the long-term future of the club can only be secured under a new owner.

Today, we’ve increased the prize fund rate for Premium Bonds, meaning Bond holders will benefit from the chance to win a further 1.4 million tax-free prizes each month. Find out more info here 👇
