Bit disappointing Lord #Geidt didn’t mention his concerns over trade when he appeared before @CommonsPACAC on Tuesday. He had plenty of opportunity.
Excellent combined Pentecost/Jubilee service at St Paul’s, #ColwynBay. Superb sermon by Rev Christine Owen. And yes, Paddington did get a mention.
Paddington turns up everywhere this #PlatinumJubilee weekend. Here he is in St Paul’s, #ColwynBay.
Not sure if tonight’s lighting director qualifies to be considered for an Academy Award, but he/she certainly deserves one. #PlatinumJubilee
Even if Macron were right, what a foolish time to say it. #Ukraine is fighting for its very survival as a nation. It needs the uncompromising support of the free world, not timid talk of sparing Putin from humiliation. #SlavaUkrainii
We. Don’t. Need. Mediators.
We need Allies.
We. Don’t. Need. Mediators.
We need Allies.
Interviewed by AFP today, Macron repeated “Russia must not be humiliated because we need to leave a window for diplomacy”.
He also stated that France will mediate in the relations between Russia and Western countries once the war is over.
Bravo, Bocelli! #PlatinumJubilee
Paddington steals the show. #PlatinumJubilee
The village of #Glanwydden has gone to town with custom-made #PlatinumJubilee signs in most gardens.
With Clive Wolfendale and ukulele band at the NWAMI #PlatinumJubilee event in #ColwynBay today
Superb service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s. Music magnificent. Archbishop of York rightly praising the Queen’s constancy and consistency, hallmarks of the continuity that is the strength of the monarchy.
Today was a great start to the #PlatinumJubilee celebrations. A full house at #ColwynBay cricket club. Everyone pleased to be meeting in person again, and to be reminded that people are three-dimensional, and not pixels on a computer screen.
Today’s Clwyd West Association Jubilee lunch was well attended and great fun. This was the cake.
“The woods are lovely, dark and deep…“
The view from Bryn Euryn, this fine #Jubilee mo
A beautiful morning to start the Platinum Jubilee holiday. Looking forward to attending a number of celebrations across Clwyd West.
Macron and now Kissinger say that Zelensky should cede territory to Russia as part of the price of peace. So how would Macron react if asked to surrender Alsace? Or Kissinger if Vermont were demanded? That’s the way Zelensky feels about the Donbas.
Welsh Government policies seem to be undermining, rather than supporting, the crucial hospitality sector: Welsh staycation boom is 'over' and Snowdonia firm fears worse is to come https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/welsh-staycation-boom-over-snowdonia-24038401?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar
I have received a number of campaign emails calling for an inquiry into the killing of #ShireenAbuAkleh. I have already called for an independent inquiry and I will continue to press for one. This is also the position of @Caabu.
A great pleasure this afternoon to meet some of the #Ukrainian refugees who have found haven in #NorthWales. #SlavaUkraini
Schröder should have been sanctioned months ago.
Former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder on Friday resigned from his board position with Russian state energy giant Rosneft, amid growing calls in Europe to sanction him unless he gives up his paycheck from Russia. https://wapo.st/3PvxZOT
If Germany won't sanction Gerhard Schröder, then Britain should.

Mother of activist jailed in Cairo calls on PM for help (£) https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2022/05/18/save-son-boris-pleads-mother-imprisoned-british-egyptian-activist/
This report will come as no surprise to people in North Wales, who have been putting up with declining healthcare provision for years. The Welsh Government is responsible for this shambles and is doing nothing obvious to address it. https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/north-wales-ae-department-rated-23993375?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar
Foreign Office urged to do more to secure release of British political prisoner in Egypt https://news.sky.com/story/politics-live-boris-johnson-in-northern-ireland-for-talks-with-dup-and-sinn-fein-as-eu-warns-against-changes-to-protocol-12593360?postid=3909876#liveblog-body
Impressive appearance by @trussliz in the Commons today. It’s generally agreed the Protocol isn’t working in the interests of Northern Ireland. Time to fix it - ideally by agreement, otherwise unilaterally. If the EU really cares about NI, it’s clear what it should do.
This is abominable: an Israeli policeman can clearly be seen striking one of the pallbearers heavily in the midriff, almost causing Shireen Abu Akleh's coffin to fall to the ground. Whoever authorised this brutality should be held to account. https://youtu.be/lm9wk9h0Wrw via @YouTube
I fail to see how Israeli police action and behaviour can have been justified. Firing tear gas at mourners, in a hospital compound, is simply unfathomable. https://twitter.com/tombateman/status/1525072009020973057
Chaos at the hospital as Shireen Abu Akleh’s coffin tried to be taken out -Israel border police firing stun grenades into crowd of mourners, people rushing into the hospital for cover
The violence at the funeral of Shireen Abu Akleh was appalling. Like her killing, it should be the subject of an independent, internationally-overseen inquiry. The presence of heavily-armed Israeli police, who seemingly used stun grenades, was provocative and deplorable.
International condemnation of the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh is growing. Given that it took place in occupied territory, there should be a searching inquiry overseen by an independent, international body.
Today’s Conwy Job Expo at Eirias Park Event Centre, #ColwynBay, was hugely successful. It was attended by more than 70 organisations from private and public sectors. Congratulations to @ConwyEmployment, @DWP and Conwy Business Support on an outstanding initiative.
Pleased to attend the (virtual) AGM of Abergele Town Council this evening. Congratulations to Cllr Alan Hunter on his election as Mayor and to Cllr Brian Roberts and Richard Waters on being awarded the Freedom of the Town.
(3/3) @jjjj86 from North Wales Tourism welcomed the figures but warned "Now we are facing a whole new set of challenges, with a major recruitment crisis and soaring day to day running costs and living costs"
He reiterated that a tourism tax was the "last thing" the sector needed
Putin’s game plan turns to dust. He will now share another 800 miles of border with a NATO member state, with another Nordic nation also about to join the Alliance. Meanwhile, the Ukrainians have driven Russia out of their northern regions. What more lunacy is he capable of now?
Marvellous to hear Big Ben chiming after almost five years of silence. The sound of Westminster and the internationally recognised voice of Britain.
The Durham programme makes clear both that the curry dinner was planned and that Starmer did not work after the meal. Starmer must have known he was himself in breach of the rules at the time he was demanding the PM resign over Partygate. His position is hopeless. He should go.
Sir Keir Starmer may well be vindicated by Durham police in their investigation into the beer-drinking/curry episode. If so, all well and good. If not, he will surely be obliged to resign his leadership of the Labour party. I’m sure he’s a man of honour and would do nothing less.
Today a charter flight removed failed asylum seekers & foreign criminals with combined sentences of over 56 years.
As we work towards our first Rwanda flight, the @UKHomeOffice continues to crack down on those abusing our asylum system & removing those with no right to be here.
As a former DPP would surely know, that may possibly go to mitigation, but it doesn’t amount to a defence.
Sir Keir Starmer was drinking beer in Durham late in the evening because his takeaway dinner had arrived an hour late, Labour sources say https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/keir-starmer-police-havent-contacted-me-over-lockdown-beer-tk3rbr3sq?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1651695967
.@christopherhope neatly sums up the #beergate controversy: ‘Essentially it boils down to the difference between a birthday cake and a takeaway curry.’

Very powerful interview on @BBCr4today with one of the defenders of the #Azovstal plant in Mariupol. Their bravery is extraordinary and puts Putin and Lavrov to shame. Proud that we in the UK are supporting them with weaponry. We must continue to do so.

Starmer declined five times on @bbcr4todqy to say whether his office has been contacted by Durham Police over the beer-drinking episode. Conclusions will be drawn that may be unfair to him. That could have been avoided by a straight answer.

Just as Whitehall staff should return to the office, so should local authority staff. Conwy CBC’s vast offices in Colwyn Bay have lain empty for two years. The new council to be elected on Thursday should insist that officers ditch the Zoom calls and get back to their desks.
Lavrov has now admitted that Ukrainian citizens have been moved out of Ukraine into Russia. Under the ICC Charter, the transfer of people out of the occupied territory by the occupying power constitutes a war crime. Good of Lavrov to be so helpful to his future prosecutors.
