But it's curious that when Labour proposed a policy to send asylum seekers to Tanzania, the Church of England was mute.
And it's curious that when the EU and UNHCR sent asylum seekers to Rwanda and Niger, the Church of England was mute.
Curiously, only the Tories are 'heartless'. https://twitter.com/JustinWelby/status/1538225138520449024
As we've said repeatedly, the Church of England’s opposition to deporting asylum seekers without any kind of assessment or care is not because the destination is Rwanda.
We would oppose such heartless treatment wherever people were sent.

So long as Russians are illegally on Ukrainian territory we must continue to do everything possible to support Ukraine in liberating their territory that has been invaded. We must not lose any focus or attention
Delighted to write the Saturday Essay in today's @DailyMailUK. My message is simple: as news cycles move on, don't forget about Ukraine 🇺🇦. It's what Russia 🇷🇺 is counting on. Ukrainians are dying every day - to protect Europe from a rogue state. They still need our support.

An appalling and retrograde step for women’s rights and for personal liberty - literally taking the US back in time half a century
This letter, laying out Sadiq Khan’s appalling custodianship of TfL, is well worth reading
The Government has provided TfL with close to £5bn of funding, but by repeatedly playing politics instead of fulfilling his side of the bargain, Sadiq Khan is preventing a long-term deal from being secured.

I am delighted to see Croydon's new Conservative Administration delivering on its planning promises.

Good that the Home Office are removing serious criminals (including convicted rapists) who have no right to be in the UK
Today we removed 23 foreign criminals from the UK with combined sentences of more than 72 years, including convictions for rape, indecent assault of a minor and drugs offences.
The Borders Act will make it easier to deport foreign criminals to make our communities safer.
We’re turbocharging trade with the fast-growing economies of the Commonwealth.
By striking free trade agreements and liberalising tariffs, we are powering growth & prosperity, creating jobs and easing the pressures we all face on the cost of living – benefitting all our people.
Many pensioners are reliant on a free TV licence, which slashes the usual £159 cost to nothing.
So we're making it much easier for older people to apply for or renew their free TV licence – easing the admin burden put on over 75s.

Despite the efforts of militant union leaders, they cannot bring our country to a standstill.
That's why we're changing the law today, meaning any future strikes will cause less disruption and allow adaptable, flexible, fully skilled staff to continue working throughout. https://twitter.com/beisgovuk/status/1539850782111055872
We've introduced new legislation to make it easier for all sectors affected by strike action to use temporary agency workers.
Businesses & services will be able to use employment providers to help fill vital gaps & minimise the impact on public services.

🇬🇧 Our new UK Bill of Rights will better protect freedom of speech and end bogus human rights claims that waste court time and taxpayers money 👇
I've said it before, but that @mortenmorland is a genius
Every single day, members of the Armed Forces work around the clock to keep the UK and our allies safe.
On #ArmedForcesWeek, we salute their service.
The world will be able to see the faces of #Russia war criminals who kill, rape and torture Ukrainians. Full list available @ https://russian-torturers.com/en/
The Government is focused on growing the economy to address the cost of living, while supporting families and businesses in short term.
The Chancellor has already committed to a cut in income tax, and I am confident that further interventions to stimulate economic growth.
Delighted to join Minister Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn of Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society in signing a Letter of Intent on Digital Cooperation between 🇬🇧 and 🇹🇭. We'll work together to support businesses and strengthen our digital economies.
SNP asking about leaving the UK. They have huge a range of domestic powers - over Police, health, education, benefits and can vary taxes. They either don’t use them or use them to deliver worse outcomes than the rest of the the UK. There is no cogent case for separation

The leftists who are celebrating that migrant boats can continue to cross the English Channel have missed an important point.
They have no idea that they are in fact celebrating people smugglers growing their dangerous business AND more lives being put at risk.
Although 86% of people would prefer to buy their home than rent, just 65% are homeowners.
It is right that the Government is making it easier to get on the housing ladder, including through extending Right to Buy to housing association tenants & increasing the housing supply.
I am pleased to hear that the planned strike by Croydon’s refuse workers is no longer proceeding, I know this will be a great relief to residents. Keeping our streets clean is a top priority, and just one part of our journey towards restoring pride in our borough.
My column in today’s @CityAM on how the UK can turbo-charge the tech sector to meet the economic challenges of our age https://www.cityam.com/london-tech-success-can-be-backbone-of-nation-economy-as-growth-wavers/
The planned RMT strikes will stop pupils sitting exams, patients getting treatment and millions getting to work.
With the median salary of rail workers about 60% higher the national average salary, it is not right that the RMT is holding the country to ransom in this way.

In the first 5 months of 2022 UK tech businesses raised £12.5 billion - half a billion a week. This is 3x Germany, 2x France & we even beat China. The UK globally is 2nd only to the US. The Judge is right. This is lawful. Australia and the US has operated this policy. Denmark is looking to do it and even the EU has expressed support for this idea in the past. We should deter needless journeys by small boat from France - which is a safe country
This is why Labour - which receives huge trade union funding - backs militant striking unions instead of the wider public who will suffer. Rail strikes will stop pupils sitting exams, patients getting treatment and millions getting to work. I stand with the public on this one
This is what Russia’s barbarism has done to Ukraine. The west must step up its military and economic support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia even further, including France and Germany

There is a huge opportunity to deploy more UK institutional capital (eg pension funds) into pre-IPO tech as the report below shows. This is more impactful and higher return than bonds or listed equities & will unlock innovation & productivity growth - good for investors & the UK

Speaking this morning to the @BVCA High Growth conference about the Govt’s strong support for tech and digital businesses. The UK’s future growth, productivity, jobs, wages and place in the world depend on us being a science & tech superpower
As a 4x proven election winner against the odds (London in 2008 and 2012, 2016 referendum and 2019 general election) who has also delivered a world-leading covid vaccine programme, world-leading support to Ukraine, the lowest unemployment since 1974, record NHS spending & (cont)
#Russia hit a railway facility in #Kyiv this morning. The rail depo worked on cargo carriages for grain exports necessary to prevent global hunger. Another #Kremlin contribution to worldwide famine. The empire of evil must be stopped

After doing nothing for 8 years (apart from bankrupt the Council and presiding over filthy streets and uncut grass) Croydon Labour really does have quite some cheek to start criticising the new administration after 3 weeks
The grass needs to be cut. The litter needs to be cleared. We are calling on the Council to take urgent action.
