We must end Putin's stranglehold on grain which drives up global food prices, deprives Ukraine of revenue and puts millions at risk of starvation.

We will work with partners to end Russia's grain blockade and with Ukraine to repair vital railways.

Bob Blackman on Climate Promises and Actions
During Topical Questions on COP26, I asked the COP26 President, Alok Sharma, on the promises and actions made since COP26 Conference last year.

https://youtu.be/YmGYx_truww

Thank you to everyone who attended and asked useful questions. Thanks also to our co-chairs @BobBlackman and @FloEshalomi, and to our expert panel: Malavika Vartak from @amnesty and Jess Eagleton of @RefugeCharity, @HelenBerresford from @Nacro, Henry, Robin and Amanda.

@BobBlackman @FloEshalomi @AmnestyUK @RefugeCharity @HelenBerresford @Nacro @CommonsLUHC @Stonewallhousin @PathwayUK Our brilliant new co-chair @FloEshalomi finished by saying that she knows that rough sleeping is high in her constituency and that there are too many barriers to mental health support, which was clearly important to all three of the people sharing their experiences.

@BobBlackman @FloEshalomi @AmnestyUK @RefugeCharity @HelenBerresford @Nacro @CommonsLUHC @Stonewallhousin Someone from the audience has shared his experience of homelessness, being retraumatised by police and health services. Dee O’Connell shared @PathwayUK's work to improve healthcare responses. She calls on local services to engage with Integrated Care Services.

@BobBlackman @FloEshalomi @AmnestyUK @RefugeCharity @HelenBerresford @Nacro @CommonsLUHC “When I moved into my own flat, I never used drugs again. But I still struggled with my mental health.” Her key workers, Pam, Simon and Grace have been crucial with her addiction, mental health, practical help and making her flat a home:“They are part of my recovery and my story”

@BobBlackman @FloEshalomi @AmnestyUK @RefugeCharity @HelenBerresford @Nacro @CommonsLUHC Amanda has talked about how hard it has been to overcome multiple disadvantages including childhood trauma. Street sex work was how she could afford places to stay and afford her addiction. It took support to recover. “I finally had my own home, my own key. I felt safe.”

@BobBlackman @FloEshalomi @AmnestyUK @RefugeCharity @HelenBerresford @Nacro @CommonsLUHC At Crisis at Christmas, he found AA meetings which he still attends. Other services also offered respite, but it took longer to get housed. “If it hadn’t have happened, I believe I’d have died by my living conditions or by suicide.” He needed a safe home to manage his addiction.

@BobBlackman @FloEshalomi @AmnestyUK @RefugeCharity @HelenBerresford @Nacro @CommonsLUHC Robin was turned away by local authorities who said he'd “chosen” homelessness. Sleeping rough, the days are hard, and police hounded him. “It’s sad that cold weather is the only thing that kickstarts temporary accommodation.” As a gay man, he often felt unsafe in night shelters.

@BobBlackman @FloEshalomi @AmnestyUK @RefugeCharity @HelenBerresford @Nacro @CommonsLUHC Henry fled Sri Lanka and faced exploitation in other countries. The effect of his homelessness on his mental health has been severe, making it harder to look after himself. He hasn't been eligible for support from any public funds, and goes days at a time without food.

@BobBlackman @FloEshalomi @AmnestyUK @RefugeCharity Next up, @HelenBerresford from @Nacro is telling us about the importance of supporting prison leavers in order to be able to meet the goal of ending rough sleeping. Many are also excluded from homelessness support because their crime classes them as "intentionally homeless".

@BobBlackman @FloEshalomi @AmnestyUK @RefugeCharity Jess makes a similar point to @AmnestyUK's Malavika, that @RefugeCharity finds that gatekeeping by local authorities excludes single women without children. Women are often asked for crime reference numbers even though this is contrary to Government guidance.

@BobBlackman @FloEshalomi @AmnestyUK Jess Eagleton from @RefugeCharity says that domestic abuse is one of the top causes of rough sleeping, and the leading cause of women's rough sleeping. Too often, women aren't counted in rough sleeping counts because they hide to stay safe.
