Over the coming years, the UK will require a steady supply of critical minerals for a wide range of tech.
To protect our national security, it is vital we develop domestic supply chains and partner with like-minded allies.
Our upcoming Critical Minerals Strategy will say more. https://twitter.com/Nus_Ghani/status/1541765646664536065

The EU cannot continue to disingenuously downplay the socio-economic challenges Northern Ireland is facing.
We want a negotiated outcome but the EU must accept that the Protocol needs to change.
We need practical, durable, long-term solutions. Our legislation provides those.
Looking forward to meeting her soon!

Tonight @HouseofCommons has backed the NI Protocol Bill.
It provides practical solutions to problems caused by the Protocol and protects the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement.
While a negotiated outcome remains our preference - the EU must accept changes to the Protocol itself.
🛥️🌏 Thanks to @SubseaCraft in Portsmouth for showing me their amazing maritime technology and telling me about their plans for global growth.
🇬🇧✅ It's always great to see first-hand how exports power prosperity – especially here in my own county.

Excellent news. Britain’s influence is felt around around the globe.
Reading the new Lib Dem MP for Tiverton and Honiton’s policy proposal on fuel tax cutting I believe he should join me on the @Conservative benches as his views are far more in line with our existing policies than the party he purports to represent.

Russia has been cutting off gas supply to parts of Europe.
Britain gets very little gas from Russia - and even those imports are down 75% since last year.
But we need to be prepared for any knock-on effects. Here are the steps I’m taking to bolster winter security of supply 👇🏾
The NI Protocol is undermining the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement. The EU are unwilling to change the Protocol, therefore we must act.
Read my @FT piece on how our legislation will fix the practical problems the Protocol is causing👇

We must support Ukraine to strengthen their hand in both the war and any future negotiations.
President @EmmanuelMacron and I agreed to step up our military support for Ukraine at this critical moment, and to enhance Anglo-French cooperation on defence and security.

We are determined to see a stronger, more resilient Commonwealth.
Together, we will fly the flag for freedom and sovereignty.
The global challenges we face demand stronger R+D 🌍collaboration.

📣SANCTIONS UPDATE: The UK is banning imports of gold from Russia.
Gold is a major Russian export, worth £12.6bn to the Russian economy in 2021. Banning it will have a big impact on Putin financing his war machine. Click 👇 to read more.

Now is not the time to give up on Ukraine, they need the support and resolve of the @G7 more than ever.
The UK will continue to back Ukraine every step of the way, because we know that their security is our security, and their freedom is our freedom.

Interesting to hear audience on @bbcquestiontime calling for railway modernisation. @BorisJohnson determined to ensure that can happen so that our train services can be economically sustainable and workforce safer thanks to use of technology. @grantshapps
“It needs to look at a different economic model and that means change”
“Mick Lynch, did you get here by train today?”
These #bbcqt audience members say the railways need to modernise and no forced redundancies is “not realistic”.
“We don’t need to have strikes”
The Conservatives’ @redditchrachel urges the RMT to negotiate with Network Rail and says there’s “a sensible pathway through this where Mick can get what he wants and the travelling public can…get back to work”. #bbcqt
Obviously it’s a good night for Labour and the Lib Dems and a bad one for the Tories but historically, byelections tell us very little about subsequent general elections.
The Tories lost 15 seats at byelections between 1979 and 1992 but went on to win in 1983, 1987 and 1992.
