🙌 A huge thank you to everyone who visited us at Westminster to hear how we plan to cut serious collisions to zero 👍

This #CarersWeek2022 is the perfect time to send our thanks to carers across the country who are a vital and often forgotten element of health and care in the constituency. We must do more to support them in their selfless task which has been made more difficult during Covid-19
My weekly column: https://www.annemariemorris.co.uk/
“I have been humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee.”
As the #PlatinumJubilee weekend draws to a close, Her Majesty has sent a thank you message to all those who have marked her 70 years as Queen.
Happy #DevonDay! Today we're celebrating with the people of Devon by flying the county's historic flag!
The Queen’s #PlatinumJubilee Celebration Weekend got off in fantastic style with Trooping the Colour.
The Prince of Wales took the Salute, with The Duke of Cambridge and The Princess Royal also riding in this display of military precision, horsemanship and fanfare.

My team were excited to meet Belle, Pancake & tiny Jack with @Battersea_ in Parliament today. They brought an important message about the lack of pet friendly rented accommodation, this can put owners in a terrible position of having to give up their pet for rehoming 1/2
Yesterday I spoke to @EthicalMedicine about the APPG on Access to Medicines and Medical Devices' ongoing work. The common conception is that once a medicine is approved by NICE it is available to anyone who needs it, but this is not always the case- we are working to change this.

It was a pleasure to speak in my capacity as Chair of the APPG on Access to Medicines and Medical Devices at the #AbbvieBridgingTheGap event this afternoon to launch their report into medicines regulation in the UK 1/2

I am sorry not to be able to attend the Westminster Hall Debate on affordable housing in Devon and Cornwall, but @SelaineSaxby and my other Devon colleagues are representing the issue brilliantly. We MUST see more affordable housing here in Devon.

Happy Birthday Your Majesty!
Today as The Queen turns 96, we’re sharing this photograph of the young Princess Elizabeth aged 2.
Then, in 1928, it was never expected she would be Queen, and this year Her Majesty is celebrating her #PlatinumJubilee - a first in British history.
Though I couldn't make it, a member of my team was delighted to attend a parliamentary reception with @guidedogs where she met dogs in training Kelsey and Jacob, and also buddy dog Vespa along with their fabulous owners and handlers. 1/2

Congrats to @powderhamcastle who’ve just opened their sparkling new visitor centre, with @AnneMarieMorris and Jack doing the honours on the ribbon, their first new building on the estate in 100 years! 🥂

Congratulations to Aidan, the regional winner for the South & South West and a national finalist for the Young Person of the Year Award. We are proud to have such a talent in the Newton Abbot constituency!

Great to welcome Rail Minister @morton_wendy to Dawlish earlier following the announcement of another ÂŁ32 million of funding for the @SouthWestRRP to install new netting and fencing between Dawlish + Holcombe, continuing the vital resilience work.
Beautiful day to be in #Dawlish with @morton_wendy and @AnneMarieMorris for the ÂŁ32m announcement for the next phase of #Rail #Resilience works. Keeping the #Peninsula connected, vital for our economy, well-being and prosperity. @networkrailwest @GWRHelp @transportgovuk
Due to currently suffering from a case of flu and our archaic voting system that doesn't allow remote voting, unfortunately I haven't actually been able to vote for/against anything this week. I've made my views on the H&C Bill clear previously: https://www.annemariemorris.co.uk/news/health-care-bill-report-stage
We would love to hear from any of the MP’s within our branch boundaries. Why did you vote down an amendment which would have paved the way for nurse ratios? @simonjamesjupp @AnthonyMangnal1 @AnneMarieMorris @neil_parish @SelaineSaxby @garystreeterSWD @MelJStride #RCNDevon https://twitter.com/DannGoodingRN/status/1509478672776015882

This English Tourism Week we pay homage to the fantastic businesses in the industry that are so vital to our economy, especially here in Devon. More of us are now choosing to holiday in England and enjoy the brilliant offering- long may it continue!
Apparently the Institute of Fiscal studies has done the numbers in detail and they put the break even around ÂŁ35,000 - so my rough calculation was a little high. https://twitter.com/MartinSLewis/status/1506618206479601666
My rough mental calculation is that those who earn under cÂŁ39,000 will see no rise in NI (from July) and most see a cut.
Those who earn over that amount will see a rise
(This is from combining new 1.25% point higher rate, with the ÂŁ3,000 starting threshold)

Constituents have been extremely worried about the rising cost of living. I am therefore pleased that the Chancellor has announced measures in his Spring statement to begin to tackle this. 1/3
For too long constituents have suffered in shoddy new-builds. So, I welcome the new Government amendment to the Building Safety Bill which will mandate a warranty of 15 years as standard for new-builds. There will also be mandated minimum standards to ensure greater protection.
I am pleased to hear that the Night Riviera sleeper is returning to full service after engineering work at Parson’s Tunnel, was completed. Another positive step for public transport in the area!
I am pleased that the new sea wall is taking shape in Dawlish and that the foundations for the extension of the rockfall shelter between Dawlish and Holcombe are being installed. This is welcome progress to help us to improve the resilience of our public transport.

I have now finally received the report from the Independent Reconfiguration Panel following the referral of the decision to close Teignmouth Hospital to it by the Secretary of State. Today is Social Care Day of Remembrance and Reflection. I am proud to share the Devon primrose as a tribute to the hard work of those in social care in Teignbridge and beyond.
It was a privilege to hear from the delegation of Ukrainian MPs today. I know that that the constituents of Newton Abbot are with me in standing behind the brave people of Ukraine who are defending democratic values.
MPs and members of the House of Lords from all parties came together today to listen to four outstanding advocates for their country.
We are United in standing behind our friends in #Ukraine and especially fellow MPs.
We thank @lesiavasylenko, @Aly_shkrum, Olena and Maria.
Yesterday I attended an event about levelling up housing in the South West. We need good quality, affordable housing that meets the needs of the community, not more executive homes.
Sanctions Update: After today we will have designated over 1,000 individuals and entities since Russia’s invasion.
This includes over 370 new sanctions announced today - possible thanks to the new Economic Crime Act.
Putin must fail in Ukraine
Yesterday I was pleased to have the opportunity to thank some of the scientific figures involved in our national response to COVID-19 and to pledge my continued support for life sciences research in the UK which is crucial to our resilience to future health threats.
This Commonwealth Day we celebrate more than 70 years of cooperation with the family of Commonwealth nations. Let us continue to utilise this steadfast collaboration to build a better post-Brexit Britain and continue to promote peace across the World
I am proud that constituents have contacted my office in their droves to offer support to Ukrainians fleeing devastation.
I am pleased that the Government has launched the #HomesForUkraine scheme for those who can to register their interest in offering a spare room or home.
Register your interest in our #HomesForUkraine scheme here https://homesforukraine.campaign.gov.uk

So pleased to be part of the vigil organised by Newton Crisis Aid at the War Memorial. The people of Newton Abbot stand firm with the brave and resolute people of Ukraine.
Today I signed the book of solidarity with the people of Ukraine as a small gesture on behalf of the constituents of Newton Abbot. The Ukrainian people are holding the line for democracy & for that we'll be forever indebted. We must welcome Ukrainian refugees seeking safety here.
