He served with particular distinction in the Home Office and as Security Minister. If the government needed something done well and speedily - and sensibly explained - James was the man to do it.
Desperately sad to hear the news about James Brokenshire.
James was the nicest, kindest and most unassuming of politicians but also extraordinarily effective.
The UK Supreme Court has agreed with the Law Officers that two Scottish Government Bills (the UNCRC Bill and the European Charter of Local Self Government (Scotland) Bill) are outside the power of the Scottish Parliament.

Prisons and Probation Minister Alex Chalk: "The set of restrictions imposed on this guy is the tightest leash I have ever seen. If he puts a foot out of line, he will be straight back inside."

Really valuable to spend 2 days on the wings in HMP Wandsworth. Meant I cd have many detailed conversations with officers and prisoners - impossible on a quick visit. Impressed by the candour of the Governor and his commitment to expanding regime for inmates
The UK should be very proud of what you have done. Every one of you have displayed the highest levels of professionalism and bravery. You have helped thousands to get to a better future and safety. Thank you. @16AirAssltBde @VAdmBenKey @DefenceHQ

To be a great prison officer requires a special set of skills: judgement, intelligence, resilience, sensitivity, composure. No surprise that the brilliant @unlockedgrads scheme is so selective:

Great visit to @HMPCardiff today. Even though prisoners typically stay in this Cat B reception prison for just a few months, really impressive work is going on here to use that limited time to educate, train and rehabilitate prisoners. Great to see.
UPDATE: There have been no reported UK military or UK Government casualties following the incidents in Kabul.
UK forces are working closely with our partners to provide security and medical assistance.

With compassion and quick thinking prison governors, staff and wing officers saved literally *thousands* of prisoners’ lives at the height of the pandemic. Good to see BBC reporting on this hidden achievement https://bbc.in/3guzM6N (at 23:20)
Really valuable visit to HMP Hollesley Bay in Suffolk. I strongly support plans from the dynamic new Governor to get more offenders into key shortage occupations, from haulage to hospitality. The need is great - no time to waste!

This is a very positive step. As Prisons Minister, it was a pleasure to discuss with @GjonajEtilda the shared challenges our countries face, including the threat of organised crime. We look forward to continuing the constructive dialogue with our Justice counterparts in Albania
Just signed a prisoner transfer agreement with Albanian Justice Minister @GjonajEtilda. This will ensure that serious offenders can serve part of their sentence in Albanian jails rather than UK ones. We continue to work with Albania to support their Justice system
